This place made no sense to Jack.
Being a detective, he expected to find some rhyme or reason to Madison, some way that they could get out and get back to his time. It didn't matter much that nobody had found such a way yet. He still had to check it out for himself. He'd be more convinced that he was dreaming if it all wasn't so vivid and real.
And of course Phryne was here. How upset she would have been if he'd gone off and had an adventure without her. It was odd, having just expressed his feelings for her before she got in her plane to fly to England. Jack hadn't expected to see her for a few months, so he thought he might be able to sit on his words for a while. Now, she was here and what was said was said. It wasn't that it had been a lie. It was simply... a lot. Very quickly. After a long time of back and forth between them, he wanted to ease into whatever type of relationship they were going to have. Things were a bit awkward around her, even if he was determined for them not to be.
Jack decided to go out and check the edge of this supposed dome that surrounded the city, the point of no return. It very clearly was like a giant cup that surrounded them. He reached out and put his hand on it. No give. He gave it a bit of a punch. That earned him nothing but a sore wrist. He searched the ground, picked up a nearby rock and lobbed it at the wall. It simply bounced off. What on Earth was this wall made of?
He checked all around the edge of it, looking for cracks or anomalies, anything that seemed out of place. Nothing. It appeared to be seamless and nothing in the area seemed amiss. Jack was baffled.
He started back the other way, moving along the edge of the dome and sweeping for anything different that caught his eye.
