I was just very curious - those of you who come from other 'magical' worlds; what are the laws surrounding your 'magical' usage? For instance, are there punishments for malfeasance? I suppose I'm not familiar with all the things your different worlds are capable of doing, but I've very curious how your worlds deal with what you can do.

	A war in support of muggle-borns? What a ridiculous idea. They should be grateful we allow them a place in polite society at all. But then if America is at all representative we already have every indication that the future will hardly be pleasing. That must be it, though. 	That's my thought as well. They certainly provide useful measures, but if they're going to stay they might well cut off their ties to the muggle world entirely. Perhaps we'll be dead before we reach an England that looks like this America. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Yes, they ought to. There isn't any reason for a war. We do so much for them, seeing that they're educated and helping them integrate. Unless those people who think Hogwarts should only be open to students with verifiable bloodlines have their way at some point in the future, of course. I can't deny that it would be a more pleasant place without the muggle influences, but even I can see that it's not a sensible view to take, politically.

Sirius is from too many years ahead for me to do more than speculate, though. And you might be right, although I'd rather not think about that either. Contemplating one's own death is terribly morbid.

Maybe it's only muggle America and the magical community still has...standards?

Is that what you want to happen? I don't mind that they're part of our society. From what I gathered from Sirius the muggle-borns want us to change, but they can leave our world when it stops suiting them. We've no place to go, the magical community is our only home. So if you're going to join it, join it and don't demand we abandon our traditions.

Morbid, yes, but inevitable. Though you are young and oughtn't worry overmuch, less your sickness become more dire and require more thought, that is.

I do hope so. But I never really intend to come to America when Irma and I travel.

You're quite right, of course. As for what I'd like to happen? It isn't simple. Yes, Hogwarts would be better off without all the talk of muggle nonsense they bring with them. I don't like it. But what I dislike is hardly a good basis for deciding what's best. The fact is that they have magic. If we bar them from participating fully in the magical community, they'll still be doing magic, the little they can without wands, only uncontrolled and in front of muggles. I think in the end it'd cause more problems than it solves, so we shall have to put up with them.

They're not all dreadful, either. Some of them do appreciate our traditions.

Yes, I have more reason to worry over it than you do. Did you know that I had my portrait painted last year during the holidays? Mother insisted on it. It's possible that I won't live very long, but there's not very much I can do about it if that's the case. I prefer not thinking about it unless I have to. ~~It frightens me.~~

I didn't know that you and Irma planned to travel! When are you going?

Yes, well. She won't want to on account of Cygnus being so little yet. He's hardly six months old and still dependent on her milk. We can't travel with the children, perhaps next year.

Yes, and that is why we tolerate them. Sometimes I almost feel sorry for them, the ones that are making an attempt to fit in. It isn't their fault that their blood is as it is, after all.

She's only like that after I've taken ill. The rest of the time she's far more interested in your children. But yes, that's the general idea with the portraits, although I find it troubling because the painter told me they move and even speak, just as I would, but not until after I'm dead.

Of course. Perhaps next year, if Irma's not expecting again by then. Otherwise it will be Calli and I going off on our travels first!

Yes, they're very fond of her. ~~If only she had been that attentive when Marius and Dorea were younger.~~ A piece of my soul? I certainly hope not! I don't know how it works, really. I'll ask Mother about it when we go home.

I miss them awfully, you know. Mother and Father both. It isn't like being away at school where I still hear from them all the time.
