"Freak!" A boy pushed Ciel backward so he stumbled into the body of another boy, who then pushed him back to the center. They'd formed a loose circle around him today as they had every day they caught him out on his own since he'd arrived. They'd been pushing him around for ten minutes already.
Can't you come up with something more creative, Ciel thought. His expression hardened, moving from one of smooth boredom to contained anger. He was a Phantomhive, he wouldn't lose his temper or his manners even if these imbeciles taunted him so. Where was Sebastian to deal with this idiocy? Where was Sebastian at all. Ciel half turned to keep the boy to his left in his sight. He couldn't see out of his left eye, it effectively kept him blind to what was happening in his peripheral and he despised it. It was an inconvenience, a blind spot and useless to him while Sebastian wasn't there.
"Yeah, freak. Why don't you go back where you came from?" another boy snarked. That earned a series of juvenile laughs from the circle. You're not even funny.
"Give me your money, freak."
His attention turned to the boy who spoke.
"No, I won't give it to you for free," Ciel began defiantly, "Let's play a game. I'll give you twenty if you're able to locate Britain on a map. Or shall we begin with something more suited to small children? Locate North America."
They didn't appreciate his humor - the boy in Ciel's blind spot struck him and Ciel hit the ground before he could re-orient himself. He hissed a breath through his teeth but stayed down. It seemed to take people longer to consider using their feet instead of their hands. But the pack mentality must have kicked in because someone did kick him. He grunted but didn't resist, not even when someone kicked him again, then rifled through his pockets and pulled the ten bill out of one. It was the highest amount of money Ciel allowed himself to carry while alone, for that exact reason: they liked to take it from him.
Brutes.
"See you at school tomorrow, freak." The cajoling laughter faded as someone kicked him a third time, then the group dissolved the circle and moved away, pleased with themselves. Ciel watched them go, waiting for them to lose interest in coming back. He pushed himself to sitting and looked down at his scraped knees and his palms.
"How inconvenient," he said, annoyed. "Now Sharon will worry," and rose to his feet, scowling.
