WHO: Thomas Raith and OPEN
WHAT: Making a mess
WHEN: Sunday afternoon/evening
WHERE: In town
STATUS: Open/Ongoing
WARNINGS: TBD

Thomas was stuck in small-town hell. He hadn't spent all of his life in Chicago, but it had always been in places with culture. His father would never agree to settle someplace without it. It was something, as much as he hated his family, that he'd gotten used to. Having money. Which led to having pretty much everything he wanted. They didn't even have a Jaguar dealer in Madison Valley, for fuck's sake.

He'd never liked small towns, for many reasons. There was the fact that it was always harder to blend. The fact that people figured out something was strange right away. The fact that putting on his favorite disguise - that of the flamboyantly gay hairdresser - was practically as dangerous as coming out and telling people he was an incubus. Maybe more so. That, and he wanted to kill David.

It was beyond wonderful being back with Justine. There was no doubt about that. But Empty Night, he hated the thought of her being with another man. Not that she didn't deserve all the pleasure she could possibly receive, but he really damn well wished that she could get it from him. After all, he didn't sleep with other women for pleasure's sake. Most of the time he didn't even enjoy it that much, as much as he played like he did. Everyone he'd slept with who wasn't Justine was simply to feed his Demon. Thomas, the man who fought against the demon every day, would have been perfectly happy to be monogamous.

Which he had been, really, for a while now. Ever since Justine had found David and they'd been able to be together again. Of course, that meant he was right back to killing her. And he hated himself for it. How long did she have? Five years? Ten? Christ, he couldn't even love a woman without killing her. He felt like a damned naked, horny Midas who destroyed everything he tried to make love with.

He'd left for the afternoon to wander. He'd stood outside the church for a few minutes, wondering if he could find peace there. He couldn't, of course, although he envied those who could. There wasn't a God for Monsters, at least not one that would forgive him his trespasses. He thought about going to Harry's, but Harry was having problems with Molly at the moment, and needed his support, not his griping.

So he wandered. For hours, before finally finding a coffee shop not far from the apartments, and going inside, ordering something heavily cream-and-sugared before sitting at a table staring out the window at the road, and the people going by outside, oblivious to him.

Suddenly, in a fit of pique, he brushed his mug off the table, letting it fall to the floor with a dramatic crash before pinching the bridge of his nose and shaking his head.

"Just charge me for the damn mug," he grumbled to the footsteps who approached.

Given the amount of times Georgia made Shaun go out for Coke, it was inevitable that at some point she was going to end up on a coffee run. She'd ducked into the coffee shop after leaving Lissa's, mentally exhausted. And that was without considering the meeting with the Council tomorrow. And the headache that was threatening to erupt at the sides of her temples. 'Breathe, Georgia.' After all, she thought to herself, if you stop breathing, you die, and then people have problems.

She almost was beginning to understand why people abused substances: She felt on edge, and there were too many people in the coffee shop (there were about six).

Then the mug crashed to the floor and Georgia whirled around with the coffee she'd just picked up for Shaun in her hands, muscles tensed and eyes squinted shut behind her glasses in pain, "Jesus Christ!" She yelled, trying to will herself to relax slightly, her breathing pattern visible.

She cleared her throat, "Sorry."

It wasn't very sincere, but it was better than nothing.

Thomas half-turned to face the woman who had uttered the exclamation. His eyes were a comfortable grey, his demon mainly submerged for the time being (it was quite pleased to be feeding on Justine again, after all), but he looked annoyed, nonetheless.

He recognized the girl vaguely. He'd not met her before, but he'd talked to her a couple of times on the network. Georgia Mason, the zombie girl. His face relaxed a little, and he gave her an utterly charming smile; he couldn't help himself.

"Didn't mean to scare you," he smiled. "I just hate cold coffee."

Her stomach felt weird. Georgia frowned, "That's because coffee is disgusting." The fact that she said this while holding a to-go mug of it seemed to have no irony for her. It was for Shaun, after all. She wouldn't touch the stuff.

The man had a nice smile. She frowned more, then scowled, wishing her stomach would settle down. Maybe she'd eaten too much pre-Rising food? They did use a lot more animal fat than their timeline. Or maybe it was just pre-migraine nausea. She looked at him through her glasses, again glad that they hid the length of her stare.

"It's been a long day. I've been around too many people in real life, so I'm jumpy." She offered. His hair was nice, like Shaun's. Stupid men having better hair than hers. And it was nice and dark...

"Oh, FUCK me." She whispered under her breath. Not the time, Georgia. If she could pinch herself, she would have.

"Coffee's lovely, with enough cream and sugar. Cocoa'd be disgusting too, without the same."

He caught her watching him, and Thomas's amused smile quirked into something exquisitely appealing as he took the time to give her a long, blatant look-over, undressing her slowly and sensuously with his eyes.

He was beyond used to women (and some men) reacting this way around him, and she was better than some. After all, she hadn't attacked him and tried to undress him or anything yet.

"Oh, well, if you insist."

"There isn't enough cream and sugar in the world to make this stuff drinkable." She retorted, "I just prefer my caffeinated beverages to give me straight diabetes: I'm a Coke drinker."

A lot of people, especially in this town, would have been embarrassed by the once-over, and blushed or mumbled. Georgia, on the other hand, was from 2040 and used to being a public figure. So she just snorted and gestured at her outfit, "Nothing under these you couldn't see better versions of in higher definition online." It wasn't to say she had no reaction at all, her posture grew slightly less defensive and her muscles relaxed minutely. He was very, very pretty. It was distracting in a way that was confusing, enjoyable, and irritating all at once.

She ran a hand through her hair, "Standing invitation to the chaotic forces of the universe, not you, sadly, despite what my pheremones have to say about it."

"I'm too demanding in bed anyway."

"You and Harry, then. I'm surprised there's anything at all left in this town after the two of you are done with it."

Thomas only shrugged in disinterest at her suggestion. When your bitch of a sister was in porn, it kind of took the sexy value out of it real quick. "Yeah, well, what's the good of looking at something that you can't touch? They're a bunch of pixels on a screen, and you're soft and warm. And demanding? I love a challenge."

He grinned though, and indicated the seat across from him.

"You're Georgia, right?"

For some reason, Georgia sat down, "Yup. It's never good when people know your name. Home taught me that."

Okay, when she wasn't full of denial, she would admit it was for two reasons: One was that the man was so absurdly pretty. The other was that, like the other refugees, Georgia tended to take her moments of cultural solidarity where she could them. So she talked zombies with Dixon, and science with Leisha, and she could appreciate that there were a few people here she didn't scandalize with her language and its 'mature content'.

"Apparently Shaun and Dresden have wrestled for it," She commented dryly, "Man-children." It was fine, actually, because Shaun won most of the time, "Search me, but it seems to work for most people. I can never take it seriously, especially when the woman's yelping would attract every zombie in a mile radius." She grinned, a genuine smile that was rare enough to see, much less to be seen by a stranger.

"Soft? Whomever told you that lies. I should sue you for slander." She placed her hands on the table, mostly to keep them steady.

"I'd recommend buying a Rubix Cube then. Those fuckers are hard."

"Well, I did vote for you," he grinned. "I'd hope I'd know a little about you. Plus, my, uh, family is frighteningly good with getting the information they want. Sometimes they can even do it without shedding blood."

Despite the darkness of his words, that easy smile and grey twinkling eyes stripped it of the awkwardness that might have come from another man's less-than-perfect lips.

"Harry would still have Burger King, if your brother deprived him of his coke. As long as he has his paper crown, he's good to go. Talking about man-children."

He sat back in his chair, crossed his arms and grinned at her. He could see that he was having an effect on her, no doubt, but she wasn't acting the fool so many women did. It was a nice feeling, really.

"Yeah, real women don't yelp like that, either. Trust me, my sample size is pretty damn good. Statistically significant, I'm certain. And when they reach orgasm - as every single one does, of course - I've never heard a single one yelp like that. Some of them are loud, sure, but not like that."

He held out his hand palm up, then indicated with his eyes for her to put hers in it. He'd not just take her hand, she obviously had personal space issues, and he wouldn't violate that.

"Prove it. Prove you're not soft."

"I should punch you for that." She replied, deadpan. If her eyes had been visible, he would have been able to tell that they were crinkled slightly at the corners, but they were hidden behind the UV-blocking layer of her glasses, "That's a good skill to have. Torture is kind of one of those skills that fell by the wayside after the Rising. All it does is get you a zombified prisoner." She shrugged.

Hey, she wasn't in a place to judge anyone else for darkness or morbidity. She compared people to food and joked it was practicing for the inevitable, after all.

Georgia's own face was less than perfect, so the amused snort didn't have a tenth the possession Thomas's every move did, but it was genuine enough, "In his defense, Burger King is good. It gets hot enough here that the Icees are actually worth it, especially when you get them right away. Though the crown? On an old man? Yeah, that's weird."

"Of course," She responded with a roll of her eyes, "Are you sure, or are they just faking because they want another chance to stare at you naked?" She scratched the side of her nose to give her hand something to do and something to concentrate on other than how mesmerizing his eyes were and that weird feeling in her gut, "Their muscles don't tense right either." She said conversationally, "Your muscles clench when you orgasm. Tighter and more quickly than if you're doing it consciously."

It was one of those odd side effects of being trained to be watching people all the time, and having human baselines drilled into your head. You noticed people's unconscious muscle movements.

She let her hand hover for a few moments, "For the record, I'm only doing this because I think you're attractive. Intellectually, I'm rationalizing giving in because you're not a zombie and won't become one and I need more practice with human contact before I go to the Council meetings. That doesn't mean a part of me isn't viscerally freaking out right now." She set her hand down on his and, true to her words, her body tensed, readying itself to flee if necessary. Flesh that wasn't Shaun's always kind of weirded her out.

"Well, I was one of those who wasn't aware that you didn't actually want to be elected. Maybe if you'd made that a bit more clear, people might have taken your wants into account. As it was, I voted for who I thought would do the best job. And that would be you." He finished it with a smile that belonged in a toothpaste ad, only missing the CGI twinkle that was easily imagined.

"Yeah, well, Harry's weird. I don't think that's news to...well, anyone, actually. Burger King crowns, coke obsessions, a cat the size of a large dog and a dog the size of a bear...oh yeah, and getting it on with the Winter Queen. All weird."

He grinned playfully, leaning in closer and dropping his voice to a soft purr.

"Oh, I'm quite sure. I can deliver on the promise made." And he was sure, because a lot of the time, he wasn't even into it enough to climax himself. It was a secret that he'd not told anyone except Justine and Harry - he was pretty sure the girls didn't notice because they were too far enthralled by that point to think of anything but their own pleasure. And their lust, their orgasms, were what his demon craved. "Yeah," he agreed. "Porn just isn't hot to me. It looks like...a bunch of hairless things humping and not really liking it. And it's just weird. I mean, who actually has sex in some of those positions? Empty night, ouch."

With her hand in his, Thomas feathered his fingers over the skin on the back of her hand. "Soft. Very soft. And warm."

"I didn't," She said bluntly, "But I also didn't want to dissuade people from making whatever decisions they thought was best. If people think I'll do the best job, that means two things: One, they're desperate, because they're electing me." Another grin, "And two: That it would be irresponsible not to help just because I don't want to. What I want to do is irrelevant."

"Dog people are weird," Georgia agreed conversationally, "Is Winter Queen different than Lady, or are he and Molly fucking?" Not that it was her business, but she assumed they weren't or Molly wouldn't have been so desperate to get laid.

She raised an eyebrow at the purr, finally turning very slightly red, "Pride goeth before a fall." Was her only answer, "Hairless monkeys. I mean, it's okay, but after a while it just gets boring to watch. But yeah, if I wanted to watch people not enjoying themselves, I'd find an office. And right?" She laughed, "There is no way you're enjoying that position, all the blood must be rushing to your head and your leg has to be asleep."

"Shaun says I ruin everything with my overwhelming focus on the practical side of things, and I should learn to enjoy porn as the comedy it is." Her smile was softer this time, though it quickly morphed into a fake scowl.

"That's a lie," She shivered slightly; she wasn't used to being touched, "I'm a hard-ass. Now, your hands are definitely pre-Rising hands."

"Yeah, you're way too altruistic for me," he said with a shrug. "You know, I say fuck the other guy. Other people, they're fine. They're great to have sex with, they're great to amuse you on occasion, but really, what they're best for? Dying and going through shit instead of you."

He shrugged, no shame in his face for his selfishness. Of course, it wasn't entirely sincere. He'd risked his life for those he loved more times than he could even count, but it was sometimes fun to fall back into the role of a narcissistic ambulatory penis. Hell, he was damned good at it, actually.

"Yeah, Mouse is a good dog, though. A Chinese Foo dog, one of the ones thought to be magical because he guards temples. And hell, maybe he is. He can talk. I've heard him." Of course, he himself was a dog at the time, but that didn't matter, did it?

He laughed at her words about the awkwardness of porn, a sound that had dissolved panties many times before. "Isn't that true? I'm good, and I'd never do those things. I like my limbs in working order after I'm done."

He scowled a little at her, a look that was somehow still sexy.

"Pre-rising hands? How do you figure?"

"Everybody has their faults," She replied, putting her other hand down at her side and slipping it into her pocket to fiddle with her phone. It might be an antique, but it comforted her to feel her gadgets, "Though you are so fucked if anything goes down. Loners don't do well in cataclysmic scenarios. Our timeline has the proof of that." She didn't appear particularly disturbed, though: At least he admitted his selfish qualities. It was better than people who put on airs about it. Georgia respected honesty more than kindness anyway.

"Magic. Talking dogs. And people say our timeline doesn't make sense." She shook her head slightly. It was weird. She could intellectually accept it, but that didn't mean she really got it. Then again, she was in denial about a whole host of things, magic dogs were really on the lower end of the scale there.

Georgia felt her cheeks heating, "Damn involuntary physiological reactions." She muttered, "Yeah, I need them in working order. If my legs don't work and we need to run or shoot someone, we're fucked. And my tits wouldn't jiggle like that anyway."

She rolled her eyes at the scowl, though his demeanor for some reason made it more an indulgent eyeroll than an irritated one. She pressed onto the pad of his palm, next to his thumb, with a surprising amount of force, "Your muscles are developed differently," She moved her touch up to his index fingers, "You also hold your hands differently at the wrist, and you don't tense up when you touch people. Feel my lower arm." It was an order, "See? I like you, and am fact am making a stupid decision in touching you at all, but my body's still not comfortable with it. All your unconscious reactions are off."

"So, pre-Rising."

Thomas shrugged with practiced nonchalance, completing the picture with a lovely smile. "Well, it's gotten me this far, and can't say I'm particularly upset with my life. So, selfishness works. I know it's not the popular thing to say, but I like living a hell of a lot more than I like being a hero. Heroes are usually dead. I like being alive." And it was at least partially the truth. He didn't let most people know what a soft guy he was at heart. It was apt to get him killed.

"Yeah, well, if you've talked to Dresden, Molly or Justine then you know our world's pretty fucked up. I'm not even human. But you know, I find that sentient creatures aren't really all that much different, where it matters."

He gave her a charming smile to go with that, to show that he totally meant every possible meaning of his words.

"Tits all move in their own way. And it's all sexy." He liked Justine's the best, even though they were on the smallish side. Probably because he liked her best of every woman he'd ever met.

He moved his hand to her lower arm, his touch gentle, and tender. "Zombies, huh? Everything about you primed for zombies."

"Pretty sure lots of people pre-Rising thought that way. But hey, if you can fake your way through human contact, which you clearly can, you're golden." She grinned, "My parents are a couple of emotionless narcissists and they've done very well in life. I like being alive too, but I've seen worse things than dying. Dying doesn't bother me." It was true, "I mean, everybody could spontaneously amplify, so we all learn to deal with our own deaths fairly early on."

"Yeah. Apparently our timeline creeps Dresden and Molly out. I can see that, since sentience would require some baseline things in common." It was one of those things that was talked about when discussions about aliens came up: Specifically, what to do with/about them if the human race was still dealing with Kellis-Amberlee when contact was made.

"I'll take functional over sexy any day." She gestured at herself, "Nobody wants to sleep with me for my tits. Now, Buffy, probably. She had a great rack. Becks does too. They can do that girl voodoo on them." Georgia waved her free hand dismissively.

Georgia shut her eyes behind the glasses, dealing with the conflicting desires to pull back and run away or continue, and settled for sitting still. She had to be the normal one tomorrow, and if she treated all the Council people like they were diseased, it wouldn't go well. She let out a breath, "Yeah. They're sort of a constant danger. And Shaun and I trained in dealing with them; our parents started teaching us when we were in elementary school."

They were touching now, and a mere touch was enough to calm Justine's manic moods, or enough to addict his clients back at his boutique. He couldn't help it - it wasn't something in his control. He was what he was and he couldn't turn it off. Did she know that? Did she know what touching him meant? Knowing how much she was opposed to being eaten - something she'd spoken about enough times, he quickly pulled back from their touch before his demon could explore her, alert her. He didn't want him angry at her, especially for something he couldn't control.

"Harry and Molly are just kind of weird in general. I think most wizards are. It goes with the territory. Or maybe it's the fae thing. I don't get any of that shit, really." He shrugged.

"I don't want to die. Maybe that's weird for a vampire, but I'm not a normal vampire, either. I'm not...well, dead. The Blacks are, and you could say the Reds are, maybe, but I'm not. I was born just like anyone else, I've just got..." He trailed off, she had no desire to know what he was. He looked at her, intensely, for a long while, considering his words - and his offer.

"There's something we can do - it's called 'sipping.' It's feeding just a little bit, not enough to hurt and there's no sex involved. I can do it with a touch. You don't have to, and if it creeps you out, that's totally okay, but it helps Justine. It soothes her. And apparently it feels good, too. If you want me to do that, to calm you down, I will."

There were very few times in her life Georgia found herself disappointed that she wasn't being touched, "Huh." She voiced her vague interest in the newness of the feeling, then buried it. Denial was a wonderful thing, and it was easier to do when he was keeping to his side of the table.

"If you think you don't get it, try being me." She answered, placing her hands on the table again, "They both seem to have ideas about what the other should be doing and try to drag me into the middle of it. Pass." Georgia snorted inelegantly. Molly and Dresden needed to figure out their shit. They weren't making Shaun's hallucinations everyone's business, after all, it was only fair to expect the same from others.

"You're immortal, right?" Georgia ran a hand through her short hair, "Of course you don't want to die. Nobody wants to. I'm just more used to the idea that it happens." Shrugs, "It's like doing the dishes, or taking a blood test. Nobody wants to do those either, but you do. It's not really worth worrying about." She didn't look away from his scrutiny, and was silent through his offer.

She pulled her sunglasses down slightly to peer over their tops at him, letting him get a glance of her black eyes, "Fuck no." Georgia answered.

"Do you think I'm a moron? You outright told me earlier you have no regard for people. My body might want to throw you to the ground and fuck your brains out, but that doesn't mean my brain has vacated the building, thanks."

"Besides, my pain meds feel good too until I need to do something. I don't alter my state of mind unless I'm in too much pain to function. Pass."

Thomas shrugged. "Yeah they do. But it's really new to them, so you've gotta give them at least a bit of a break. And for your information, no, they're not fucking. Although she wants to. Bad. She's had it for him for ten years, probably. If not more."

He ran a hand through his hair, and glanced out the window before turning back to her. "Immortal? I don't know for sure. We live a really long time, I'm sure of that. My dad's several hundred years old, if not more. I'm almost fifty. But I can die. I mean, I can be killed. I'm not like Molly."

He held up his hands in surrender.

"Fine, fine! I'm not going to push it, just thought you might like to." There were times when pretending to be a thoroughly selfish narcissist bit him in the ass.

"I'd give them more of a break if it didn't center around 'jerking Georgia around'. They're both decent enough, to me, until they start discussing what I should do around the other without giving me enough information to make a choice." She grinned, "Yeah, Molly complained too much for that to be the case. Though 10 years. Yeah, that explains some of their issues." So deal with it. Or that was her opinion.

"You look damn good for fifty, but you know that." Georgia shrugged, and followed his gaze out the window. Habit. If somebody was looking at something, there might be a reason, "But yeah, your idea of time and dying will be different."

"Oh, sure, I want to. I want to do a lot of things that are a shitty idea. I can't do them; somebody has to be responsible." She grinned slightly and crossed her arms, leaning back in her chair.

"Well, I'll be glad to tell you what I know about them, but I don't know everything, by far. But still, probably more than you do. I'm a supe, and it is my world. So, up to you. Yeah, though Harry doesn't return it at all. Or...if he does, he's not going to act on it. He wouldn't do that to Molly, and he's known her since she was a kid. So it would be a little weird."

He smiled brightly. "Oh, yes, I certainly do know. I might be a dumb, selfish, egotistical ass, but that's one thing that actually is true."

"You do realize offering information to me is like offering sex is to you? I think. I'm shit at metaphors." Georgia admitted, "But I'm going to take you up on that, since they obviously have their heads up their asses. I like talking to them both, or I wouldn't, but damn." Another shake of her head and pinch of the nose, "That would be a bit weird, yeah." She agreed.

"Use what you've got, I guess." Georgia looked him up and down as openly as he had her earlier in the interaction, "And you don't even have to back it up with anything. Ass. The rest of us need personality."

"Sure, it's boring, but it keeps you alive. You sound like Shaun. 'George, come play with the zombies, George, lets go poke the cows, hey George, look, a bear'." She snorted, then let her face relax into a smile. She loved her brother. She'd admit it.

Thomas grinned. There were things he liked a lot more than sex, but he wasn't going to tell her that. Best that she believe what everyone else did of him - or at least what most thought.

"I've always thought personalities were overrated, to be honest," he grinned, before becoming a bit more serious. "But yes, if you want information, I'll do what I can to give it to you. Harry and I are pretty close, I know quite a bit, and I hear a lot through the grapevine, too."

He laughed. "I think I need to talk to your brother."

She couldn't help but grin back. He was so pretty. It made her a moron. Georgia was torn between sympathy for all the idiots she'd known in her life and making a mental note in her head to see if science could get rid of this particular potential emotional issue.

"Pretty people don't need them, you're pretty, after all," From anyone else it would have sounded bitter, but from Georgia it was factual, akin to saying tall people didn't need stepstools. She liked her personality, even if others found it abrasive, "Cool." She didn't bother saying that she had her own grapevine: She wasn't exactly, shy about it.

"I wouldn't," Georgia replied, "He'd probably shoot you."
