Alec was adaptable. It was one of the things he was literally trained to be. Much like when he had found himself free from Manticore because of Max and her little prison break, Alec was finding ways to fit into this new place. It helped that he had been given money and a phone by some people who were apparently the Welcome Committee. He also discovered apparently someone who looked like him used to be here named Dean. If everyone was as hot as the girl who said hi to him first, he was definitely going to keep up being Dean for a while.

At the moment Alec was getting the lay of the land. He already flirted his way into getting a free deli sandwich and was eating it as he walked down the street. This place already looked ten times better than Seattle did. He supposed anything pre-pulse would look better. He paused at the end of one of the sidewalks and eyed the casino in the distance - he wondered how much money he could swindle out of there before they were onto him.

Lorna was doing better. Yes, she missed Marcos, especially with all the new memories, but Lorna had always been able to shrug things off and deal for the time being. It had been all that while dealing with new memories then tossing in returning to single parenthood that had slipped her into a very questionable place in her head. Story of her life, but she had a daughter to focus on and she was always able to pull herself out of whatever mood she was in so it was no different. Deciding to run a few errands, Lorna had Dawn in her stroller, watching the little one who was waving to everyone and anyone. It was cute, but damn was this the start of her future little social butterfly because if so, she had no idea where she got it. Then again, she wasn’t going to complain since it was a new milestone for her even if sometimes it felt like Dawn was on an endless waving loop.

Fixing the bags from the few things she picked up on the stroller, Lorna noticed some guy standing at the end of one of the sidewalks. She wasn’t really looking at what held his attention since she was making sure Dawn didn’t try to drop anything, but she couldn’t help herself on making just a tiny comment. “Doesn’t get much clearer than that for crossing,” she replied with a shrug.. Fighting back a smirk as she maneuvered the stroller off the sidewalk so her and Dawn could cross.

He was aware of the woman approaching, but since she had a stroller he hadn't been overly worried about her. Of course, when she got closer and made the little comment, he pulled his eyes away from the casino to look at her. Somehow she looked more familiar to him than half the people here, but he couldn't say why. He glanced down to the kid in the stroller before looking back up and crossing when she did. "Does it really matter when you cross? I mean, people are going to stop for you either way."

It was sometimes noticeable on who the newbies were and sometimes not so much. Lorna had a gut feeling he was a newbie, especially with the glancing off in the distance at something. Probably finding something new where he could waste some time before this place turned into one boring place. Okay, maybe that was just for her. Small town living was something she did once before, but the plus side this place was safe for her kind and her daughter.

Lorna noticed Dawn had been looking at the strange man for a few moments before going back to people watching and seeing what was going on around her. “You haven’t been around many teen drivers, huh? You’d think so, but then you get that wild card teen busy with their phone more than watching the road. So yeah, not always the case if you decide to go one on one with one of those wild card teen drivers,” Lorna knew of them, but thankfully, she never had to deal with them. “New to this dome life?” She asked, glancing over at him with a raised eyebrow.

Alec looked over at the woman and tried to decide how to answer. He figured if she knew Dean, she'd have already greeted him as such - he wasn't quite ready yet to let down that guise. He wanted to see how far he could take that particular charade. "I am, actually." His hands slid into his jacket pockets. "Place is pretty different from home. Not as much of a shit hole, for starters." Should he have been mindful of the kid? Maybe, but he wasn't used to being around them so it actually didn't cross his mind.

Lorna knew of Dean since she remembered seeing him over the network, but she wouldn’t know him if she fell over him. Plus if someone wanted to pretend they were someone else, then that was on them. As long as it wasn’t someone close to her, she didn’t care considering she wasn’t exactly all that trusting of people anyways. “Where were you from? Yeah, back home wasn’t all that great, but this place is better than back home for some people.” Lorna didn’t say anything about the swearing since it wasn’t like every other word was a curse word and she wasn’t exactly innocent. While she had cut back on a lot of her swearing, it still happened from time to time. “If you can handle boring until some of the crazy crap happens around here, then it isn’t horrible. Cause this place can get pretty boring from time to time.” Lorna hadn’t been planning on doing a whole social outing, but she might as well do her nice deed for the week on helping out a newbie.

"Back home? Seattle." He shrugged a bit like it didn't matter where he was from. He really only lived there because of Max and the others. If he had been smart, he'd have skipped town months ago. "A little different America back home. There was an attack and it took out a lot of infrastructure. Country went to shit -" He glanced down at the kid thoughtfully, then back to Lorna. "to crap." There, he fixed it, see?

"What kind of crazy stuff happens here? From what I see it's just boring little quaintsville." Though at the moment it was new enough to keep his interest.

“Not a bad place,” she spoke with a small shrug on the Seattle. Though Lorna really only knew it from pictures and stuff since she hadn’t ever fully made it to that side of the world. Nah, she had enough stuff going on with the East Coast to do any trips out to the other side of the country. “You’ll find here some people have a little different America from here. What type of attack?” Lorna raised an eyebrow with a very small hint of curiosity. She doubted his were mutants since most were glad to run that name through the dirt plus people had their own attacks and never had anything to do with her species. Still it was a hard habit to break, especially with her new memories and the hell that was going on because of her new team. “My world has been crap for a while depending on your species.” Lorna had never been one to hide who she was because she wasn’t ashamed of being a mutant. No one was ever going to have her back down from wearing her mutant title all proud.

His question caused her to bite her bottom lip for a moment, thinking about what stuff she had gone through since being here. Though she had to admit his comment on boring did cause a small chuckle from her. “I haven’t been here as long as some, but we’ve had future kids, screwing with our memories and that was a real fun one since it was like drama freaking city up here,” she rolled her eyes on that one, remembering the hell from that whole nightmare, “pod people, and yeah, I know I’m forgetting some stuff. Then recently we lost a lot of people so that’s always a fun game with the losing people.” She left it at that before smirking again, “Yeah, we can go a while where it’s boring, but then it’s all surprise. Right about now, I’d welcome one of those surprises.” Lorna didn’t give a damn if people would be pissed about that, she was bored, then again she wanted something where she knew Dawn would be fine since she did have a kid to worry about.

He took in everything she had to say even if he looked far more relaxed than someone who was listening might be. There was a particular phrase she used that caught his attention over others. Sure, the fact strange things could happen was interesting, but not as much as what else she said.

"Depending on my species?" He looked to her again. Maybe they were from the same world or something like it. "What's that supposed to mean?"

He shrugged. "As for home, it was an energy pulse. An EMP. Destroyed most of the computer and communication systems in place. Country couldn't handle it. Things went into chaos."

It wasn’t all that surprising to Lorna on how that was the statement that caught his attention. That meant either he came from a world where that wasn’t even a worry or a place where people tended to hide who they were. Then again she could be wrong, but her past experience had her believing it had to be one of those.

“Back in my world, we had humans and mutants. Here you’ll find mutants, werewolves, witches, etc so you’ll find this place has its fair share of freaks considering that’s what people usually call the ‘different’ species.” Lorna knew some people took the freak comment as an insult but she wore it with pride. Much better to be some freak than a human or at least that was how she had always seen it, especially when she saw how people tried to get her kind to hate who they were.

Part of Lorna wanted to ask if the government was behind it because they usually were. But she fought the urge for the time being though it was only a matter of time before the question would come out from her. There was also the whole thing with how Lorna could be a minor EMP in that her powers could take out a communication system, power, and things along those lines if she wanted. Not enough to cause a world to fall into chaos but enough to cause a minor amount of chaos and she wasn’t sure it was the best way to welcome the newbie. “Sounds like a smashing time,” she spoke the sarcasm showing very clearly. “We had chaos in my world, but nothing like that, which is great since I think the kids would’ve lost their mind without their technology.”

Lorna's silent observation was spot on. Alec was not sure he'd call himself a mutant since he wasn't naturally occurring, but he was more mutant than he was human. Of course, he had picked up on the fact that Lorna had not mentioned which side she fell on. He could pick up that whichever side she was on, she was more open-minded than other people probably were in her world. "Funny how 'different' always ends up being the bad thing, huh?" Humans had been doing it for centuries. "I guess our worlds have a few things in common. Does that happen a lot here?"

He wasn’t wrong and that was the problem with the world. This is why even with Lorna knowing the Inner Circle and the way they had dealt with things was wrong, the Underground were also wrong with sitting off to the side. Something had to change or mutants were always going to be hated. No group in history ever just sat by while waiting for change and she wasn’t ever going to do that either, but the whole being stuck here put all that on hold. Which wasn’t all that bad since she had Dawn and her daughter was safe. “Funny and also annoying as hell. Just like when you do get some humans to stand by what’s ‘different’ they get seen as the traitors to their own kind,” she wasn’t sure if that was the same in his world, but it sure as hell was the case in hers.

“What category of weird do you fall under if you know what I’m talking about?” Lorna never was known for subtle or approaching the situation carefully. She was blunt, honest, and never thought twice when she wanted to know something. “Does what happen a lot here? The whole humans not understanding us or something else?” Lorna asked with a raised eyebrow. “If the humans thing it’s different here. Some of the people from this area are not huge fans of us, but they’ve learned to deal. Everyone else? They don’t really care. Some find it interesting, some find it as whatever, and so on. It’s why I don’t mind this place since I know without a doubt my daughter is a lot safer here.” Lorna wasn’t exactly the most honest or open, but the guy was new and she could tell he was a bit like her even if it wasn’t the same species wise.

He eyed her for a moment and then shrugged. "I'm not a mutant, if that's what you're asking." It was technically the truth, but even if it wasn't, Alec was a good liar and not above lying to keep safe. He had to take care of number one, after all. "Just a concerned citizen. Didn't know if I needed to kick some ass here or not. Might not be a mutant, but it doesn't mean I don't think treating them different is B.S." Though he did get that she was a mutant and the openness was intriguing. Maybe he could find it in him to trust her at some point. Maybe.

"So, if you're a mutant, what can you do? I mean, if you can do anything."

While it was always fun to run into mutants since they were the ones who Lorna usually trusted a little easier than humans, she knew around here the species varied to all different types. She really didn’t mind all that cause she wanted to make sure her daughter was accepting of everyone. Okay, that was more Marcos with her accepting of humans, but Lorna knew it was the right thing to do and she didn’t want Dawn fearing anyone or anything, especially when chances were very high once her powers came into play, she’d be hard to mess with. “Never said you were. If we were in my world, then I might think it, but here the list is a whole lot longer.”

Lorna called bullshit on the concerned citizen as she knew he was something, but hey, it was his choice if he wanted to keep it to himself. Sad he didn’t own it; however, she knew not everyone was like her on being open and fine about what they were. “Please if any ass kicking was needed I got it,” she told him a shrug and oh, how she wished there was some ass to kick. She was really missing that more than anything since she was good at the kicking ass and fighting, which was why she enjoyed her job since she could stay top of her game.

His question brought a cocky little smirk upon her lips. Normally, she had no problem with showing off or telling people, but she wasn’t about to make it that easy on the poor guy. “Now where would be the fun in telling you that? I should keep the people guessing so they come back for more or some shit like that,” she teased, pushing the stroller. “How about once you get yourself more settled in around here, then we can talk about me maybe showing you what I can do?” Lorna was giving the guy a hard time and figured he was going to claim something like not having abilities, but she was curious since the guy seemed interesting enough. Which sparking her interest was never easy.

His lips pressed into a grin. it was hard not to like her. She had a kick-ass attitude and it was easy to tell she didn't like people push her around either - Alec could definitely respect that.

"Oh, you're so on." He definitely wanted to know what she could do. Maybe he'd even decide to come clean. He needed to figure out if it was actually safe to do it. No Manticore here and no weird cult crap either.

"For now I'm going to discover which places has the best booze and then go gorge myself on food that actually has taste." And maybe some other fun. He offered Lorna a wink. "I'll definitely be seeing you around, though."

Lorna had to admit the guy was interesting enough and he didn’t go the whole route of ‘oh you really can’t do anything’ since she wasn’t showing him. Those guys and even girls were super annoying and only pissed her off so it was good to know. “We shall see. Like I said once you’re all settled you can hit me up and we can see about maybe showing you exactly what I could do.” The comment almost made her roll her eyes since it could be taken like a flirty comment or some girl sounding desperate for attention, but she ignored it since both were not true from her. He was a good looking guy; however, she had enough on her plate and it took more than just a pretty face to get her attention.

“You have a few options on bars and a lot more on food. Have fun,” she said to him, then rolled her eyes at the wink. Lorna started to push the stroller towards the apartments, turning to glance back at the guy. “You hope,” she finally said on the whole seeing her around. Yes, he probably would, but Lorna make it easy on the guy? That was funny and never going to happen.
