WHAT Birthday party
WHEN Sunday, November 17
WHERE The Old Market on Main
WARNINGS TBD, kick a mod if it needs to be updated
STATUS OPEN | Party Post
NOTE OTA Rule Change is in effect.

With the weather making it too cold to gather outside, the Old Market on Main had been transformed into s very decorated birthday hall for the November celebration. An invite had gone out across the network for all of the refugees. As per usual, there were favorite foods of those being celebrated. There were some Thanksgiving and fall related touches, with plenty of warm comfort foods to go along with the buffet.

There was a large cork board on one of the walls and a set up next to it that encouraged people to write what they were thankful for before pinning it up on the board. THey could be anonymous or signed, about anything, but it was meant to foster what Thanksgiving had turned into over the years.

He loved fall, it was a great season, cozy and perfect for snuggling up with a good book. His enjoyable book had been put aside though, at news of a birthday party for those with November birthdays. It seemed a good excuse for him to mingle with the others, maybe make some new friends.

He donned a suit and went out into the Old Market, helping himself to a lightly spiced pumpkin soup and a crusty bread roll. It seemed that he was early, but that was alright, he had his phone, and his phone held a copy of Dorian Gray, which meant he was quite entertained until someone else turned up. He'd read it before, of course, but he always felt a comfort in reading anything by Wilde, something which made him feel warm, as though he were in the parlor of an old friend.

Imagine if he were to bump into the real Dorian Gray, he thought to himself, whimsically. From little bits he had picked up over the last couple of weeks it was not completely out of the question, given how Madison Valley operated.

The birthday parties in town were usually Clark's favourite sort of gathering to attend. He liked that everyone got together to celebrate a few people, to make things special for them, and this time he actually did sort of know a few of those being celebrated. But it was how he knew them that was getting him down. They were the people his cousin had been close to and every passing day made it more clear that she wasn't coming back.

He shouldn't be down about it, was trying not to be. They'd see each other again one day at home and it really wasn't like they'd seen each other there much either. But losing his only family was never going to be an easy thing for him.

Still he was putting on a smile and mingling a little, finding himself right there beside a man he knew he'd definitely never met before. Blue and furry was memorable.

"Hi there. I don't think I've seen you around before."

He put his phone in his pocket at once and gave the stranger a smile.

"No, I'm sure you'd remember me if you had," he said, knowing that he was generally considered memorable everywhere outside the formerly mutant inhabited island of Genosha. Being big and blue and furry made it easy for him to stand out from the crowd.

"My name is Hank McCoy. I'm a scientist, new to Madison Valley. Are these sorts of mass birthday parties common here?" he asked curiously.

Anna was comfortable enough with herself this month to show up for the birthdays. She shared one with Mercy, but she kept it quiet and didn't often tell others. In fact if the dome hadn't said anything, she would not have. She slipped into the party quiet, her hair loose and her outfit demure. She found herself a plate of pulled pork sandwich and some other foods and sat down at a table by herself. The wolf's blue eyes flashed once or twice before they settled on the normal honey brown.

After a few minutes she disappeared then returned with a violin case. She set up in a corner and carefully tuned it before playing a soulful, but happy, tune for everyone to enjoy while she found her comfort. She wished those to enjoy today too. She played smoothly, her bubble of calm surrounding her as she played. She took a minute to stop, though, and catch her breath. Looking around for where she left her glass of water.

He wasn't really much in the mood for parties lately, losing Kara had been a blow for everyone and they were slow to recover, but Steve couldn't not stop in at a party celebrating one of his best friends and one of the best kids in his life. Even if it was just for a little while.

The woman with the violin he wound up listening to was vaguely familiar, in that way that happened when people were in the same place for long enough. They must have seen each other in passing a few times and there was something about her that kind of put him at ease.

"That's a nice tune," he commented once she'd taken a break for a drink.

Anna smiled gently at Steve as she set the violin down carefully and took a sip from her glass of water. "Thank you. An old welsh one my alpha taught me." she brought peace with her, it was why one of her nicknames back home was Peace Bringer. It was something she could offer those here.

"Did you have any requests? I can play just about anything from most eras." she said softly as she picked up the violin to set it on her lap.

"I would be happy to play."

Lucas was so into his dome provided birthday party. He loved the idea of what he had dubbed the Thankful board and had promptly filled out colorful strips of paper thanking each of the most important people in his life these days. Cam, for being a great dad. Dean, for being his best friend and loving pie as much as he did. Riley, for being the best girlfriend and friend anyone could ask for. He'd added a couple others, for Briar, Anna, Ella, and then most of his friends.

It was going to be his first without his mom, birthday and holidays, so Lucas definitely felt that bit of sadness. He did his best to acknowledge it and then let it go, since dwelling on it would only make it worse and probably make his dad feel awful, too.

It was easier to be happy when he caught sight of the Texas style BBQ laid out on the buffet table. He'd loaded his plate with brisket, ribs, and all the fixings, including his grandma's biscuits. Then he grabbed a table and figured people'd come to him. If he was looking out at the crowd, he told himself it wasn't for one particular pie loving person he hadn't seen in weeks.

Mercy had spent five minutes staring at the board. She was able to finally add she was thankful for Anna, for Jaime and Jeremy, Kate and everyone else at the house. But it was hard to add. Because she was still hurting.

She headed, no, drifted, mindlessly toward the buffet of food when she spotted Lucas. She changed course with a faint smirk. "I would thank you, good sir."

Lucas grinned brightly as Mercy stopped by. Being close with Anna meant he spent a good deal of time on Pack property, usually while she was visiting with Mrs McCree because he always felt better after spending some time with them both. Mercy joined them sometimes and it was all just honestly one of the best things that had happened since his mom got sent home. He had some pretty great motherly-type figures to help fill in the hole that had been left behind.

"I'm sure you're up there tons. People love your company and your food." He shifted a bit to make room for her at the table next to him. "Did you get some of the barbecue? That's all me," he said proudly. "Well, my grandma's recipes, but it's my favorite so that's what the Dome gave me. Which is honestly really great. It's one of the few good things about home, you know?" Hopefully he was making sense.

Carlos didn't really know anyone being celebrated super well, but that wasn't stopping him. For one thing there was free food. For another, he actually really liked these things. He liked the normalcy and that no one ever seemed to be plotting or scheming behind anyone's backs at them like they would have done on the Isle, and he never felt really out of place the way he did at Auradon stuff. Madison Valley was pretty much the best experience with parties he'd had in his whole life.

It was his best experience with a lot of things.

He was just wandering around checking things out and snacking on anything he could find when he spotted Jughead and his smile brightened at the familiar face. Darting over, he jumped in and clapped the other boy on the shoulder soundly. Exactly like he'd have done to Jay, if Jay was still around. "Hey."

Between it being Mitsuko's and Sue's birthday month, Jughead was definitely in attendance and had encouraged the other Serpents to attend, even though they tended to for the free food alone. He'd said happy birthday to both women before grabbing some food which meant he was really testing the limits of what one plate could hold in terms of food when Carlos clapped him on the shoulder.

It was really, really good that Carlos felt comfortable enough to do that. Jughead had been doing his best to develop a friendship with him, not just because of Mal but that was a big part of it. e wouldn't lie about that. He did genuinely like the blonde, so it was very easy to get to know him. "Hey man, how's it going?" Jug asked with a grin. "I'm really glad you decided to get a job at the Boy's club." He'd been brainstorming some ideas with Carlos on what some options were and he'd had his fingers crossed that it would work out. He'd been over the moon that it had, and now he wanted some details.

It had definitely taken Carlos a long time to feel comfortable enough to be friends with anyone in town. He'd made a couple despite himself along the way, even had his boyfriend who was great and he was totally into, but the important people were still his girls. He was getting there these days, felt a little more like he had solid ground beneath his feet.

"Yeah. Me too." He hadn't been so sure about working at all in the first place, it wasn't exactly something he'd ever done before, not really, and he didn't think he had any actual skills. But talking to Jughead about it had actually really helped him out. "I'm really liking it. It's sort of what we always wanted to do when we went back to the Isle, you know? We got lucky so we waned to help where we could, you know?"

And there were nothing but kids from bad homes and sometimes no homes at all who could use the hand up.

Since the party was celebrating Riley's boyfriend, though it wasn't quite his real birthday for another week, and he was pretty much the most important person she had in her life, not just because he was her boyfriend but because he was her friend, her only friend from home now, the only person left who she never doubted cared about her, of course she was going to be there.

She definitely found herself hanging out in front of the board of thankfulness while he was off mingling with people, they'd find their way together by end end of the party and he'd take her home. It was a nice thing and she took her time reading everyone's notes before grabbing up a bit of paper and starting to work on her own.

She had so much to be thankful for that she was going to post something for everyone she could think of.

While Isak didn't really know anyone who had a birthday this month, aside from maybe Darcy, he still decided to drop by the party. If anything, at least he'd have something to eat before he had to go into work later.

And since he was a bit hungry, food was what he was going to get first, so he grabbed a plate and filled it with a few things before he walked around. Before he could find a place to sit, however, his eye caught the cork board and he was curious, so he went over to look at it.

"What is that?" he asked Riley, leaning closer to read some of the messages. "Thank you notes?"

"Sort of!" Riley glanced over and smiled before gesturing to the bored before continuing. "They're little notes about what we're thankful for!" She really had a lot to be thankful for, even after all the bad things this place had done to her. Even after how much it had changed her.

"You can write some too, if you want?" she offered, and held out a few slips of paper and a pen for him. It was just a really nice thing to do and it was the right time of year to be thinking about what they were thankful for. That sort of thing was really important. "Maybe you can leave a note for the people who you're glad are around."

Maybe they'd see it, too. Riley certainly hoped everyone saw the ones she wrote.

Turning 28 hadn't been a huge celebration, though Archie and Fred had gone out of their way to make it a long celebration with flowers and gifts and whatnot. She'd gotten some quality brother and nephew time in there, too, so all in all it was a great birthday that would continue to be great at the Dome provided celebration. She was mostly curious about what the dome would think of as her favorite food, which turned out to be some of her grandmother's best dishes. It was definitely icing on the cake in terms of birthday gifts, so she loaded her plate up and went to go find a seat.

She was positioned so that she could watch as people approached the cork board, to either contribute themselves or write what other people had said they were thankful for. Sue knew she'd do her's after she ate, and she'd include a thanks to the Dome for giving her a great life here. It wasn't perfect, but it was her's and there weren't too many threats here. She got to just be Sue Storm, which was a gift she'd never question or criticize too much.

Clary happen to have the day off which was perfect because it fit in with the date of the town birthday celebrations. Clary enjoyed going to all the town parties, but the birthday party celebration was the best because she had the chance to enjoy free birthday cake. There was really nothing that tasted better than birthday cake. Plus, it gave her the chance to socialize with the other refugees too.

For this celebration, they actually had a board that you could put what you were thankful for on. Clary definitely had a lot to be thankful for;; her friends, Jace (obviously), and having the chance to live in peace even if the peace was unpredictable at points because of the town itself. It was still better than not having any of it at all. She made herself up a plate of all the free goodies, including a small sliver of cake before glancing around for a place to sit.

She spotted Sue and an empty seat and wandered over to see if she could possibly claim it. "Uh hey. Mind if I claim the empty seat for just a bit while I eat?"

Sue looked up at the woman who approached her. "Not at all," she replied with a kind smile. Though she didn't know her, Sue wasn't the sort to just turn someone away. That would have been rude and certainly not in the spirit of the holidays.

"You'll have to tell me how the cake is," Sue added politely. "I opted for some comfort food first before getting dessert." It was honestly hard to imagine anything wouldn't be good in terms of the food, but it was a simple enough thread of conversation to have.

Considering they were celebrating his aunt and a good friend of his, it would be dumb for Chris to miss the birthdays that month. Also, he rarely ever turned down free food. He was twenty-three and still in that 'growing boy' phase that he really hoped would end eventually. Good thing there were events thrown by the Dome (which really, was no one else concerned about that?) all the time.

He'd had a good sized plate and now was sipping at a drink while he wandered around, checking out the very blatantly Thanksgiving themed décor. The little corkboard was...weird. But also touching, he had to admit. There was a lot he was thankful for this year. More than he could remember in a long time. But that didn't mean he was going to do something cheesy like write it all down. So instead he stood, eyeing the board with interest.

Remy also found the board interesting. It wasn't what he expected to see at a birthday celebration, a 'thankful' board. What would Remy write on it? He wasn't sure at all.

Thankful to be alive? To be in a new place? To have second chances? Second chances would be good. Would that work? He wondered. Walking towards the board, he saw a younger man also looking at it.

"Figurin' out what to add too?" Remy raised a brow. "Good to t'ink about what we thankful for dis year. Be mindful o' dat stuff ... change yo' perspective a bit."

Accents didn't bother Chris. Neither did mutants, for that matter. What did bother Chris was how bothered Rogue had been when this guy had shown up. But their complicated history wasn't his to be concerned with. Rogue could handle herself, and she seemed to be doing so just fine. Unless she seemed distressed or requested backup, he was going to let it go.

So the look he gave Remy when he spoke up beside him was a casual one with a hint of a shrug. "I've got a lot to be thankful for, I guess. It's just kind of a new feeling for me." It had been almost a year since he'd come to Madison Valley, but he still remembered everything leading up to that year very clearly. Including his death.

"I mean, it's the whole point of the holiday, isn't it? Being thankful for what we have. Thankful for surviving, in some cases." The pilgrims had apparently set the standard for that one, but Chris was pretty okay embracing it.

Prue wasn't about to miss this -- they were celebrating her sister's birthday, after all. She'd never hear the end of it if she did, for one thing, and for another? She was just thankful for the opportunity to celebrate her sister's birthday. She didn't have it back home.

And so that was one of the things she wrote down and then pinned to the board. The most important one, really, the fact that she had the opportunity to be with her family again. After she pinned that up, she was moving off to see who else was there, grabbing a plate and something to drink before finding a place to sit.

Because food. She could mingle later.

Even though Nikita had wished Birkhoff a happy birthday on his actual birthday, she still felt it was only right to come to this thing. While he was the most important birthday for November there were a few others who she knew. Walking around, she was curious to see how this month was going to be set up for the birthday people while also keeping an eye out for anyone she knew to say happy birthday to them.

After writing down the names of the people who were her family and sticking them to the board, Nikita grabbed herself something to drink, looking over the food before only grabbing a little bit. She wasn’t that hungry and she’d much rather not spend the whole time eating since she’d much rather do the social thing. Going over to one of the tables, she sat down near a woman who was also eating.

“Hey,” she said to the woman as she sat down, “Hope you don’t mind some company from a stranger for a few.”

It was his birthday, after all. And there was cake. Enjolras wasn't likely to miss a birthday party where there was free cake. Especially his own birthday party.

There were definite differences between this party and the others he'd been to here. The Thanksgiving holiday seemed to have a presence here. It was something he was conflicted about. The origins of the holiday seemed to have a very dark feel, but he had a lot to be thankful for this year. Maybe it was possible to celebrate only the important bits of the holiday?

Also pie. He was very much looking forward to pie.

He pulled up a seat at an empty table and settled into some of the treats he'd picked up. Maybe he'd visit that wall with all the thankfulness later.

Mike had never been big on Thanksgiving. Growing up it had just been an excuse for his dad to get a little more drunk than usual and blame his mum for burning something. And then work had always been the priority, and he'd never really had time for it.

He liked what they did for people's birthdays here, though. And time really wasn't a problem any more. Maybe he'd even find the time to write down something he was thankful for later.

Once he had some food, he spotted his doppelganger sitting alone. That didn't seem right for someone's birthday. Walking over he took a seat at the same table. "Hey, man. Happy Birthday."
