Things were different during the summers. At school, both Luka and Lýdia had a negative reputation amongst the majority of their peers that they had no influence over. They were the children of a formerly-escaped, newly-captured Death Eater, painted in a bad light before they had been given the chance to give a different first impression. Even now, after six years at Hogwarts, there were still people who disliked them purely because of their surname. They were social outcasts, to a point, and that was just how things were. At home in Čáslav, however, things couldn't have been more different.

That night, the twins and their friends had been invited to a party in town, held in honour of one of their friends' namesday. Kristián was part of the Muggle group that the twins had befriended when they had first come to live with their grandmother, a collection of people who they kept in contact with throughout the year and who they hung out with over the summers. None of them knew about the magical world, about Hogwarts, or about the stain that the name Rosier had left on Luka and Lýdia's history. To them, the twins were Lukáš Čáslavský and Lýdia Čáslavská and, in such company, the twins were everything that they had never been given the chance to be within the Wizarding world.

By the time their group arrived, the party was in full swing. After a round of introductions and a row of celebratory shots, everybody had scattered. The last time Luka had checked, Lýdia had been gossiping with her friends, Easton and Evie had been chatting together on the fringes, and Nova had been soothing a sobbing girl who had been wailing at her in broken English about a cheating boyfriend. Really, it wasn't much different from the parties at school.

With one very obvious exception: Luka was in the middle of the floor, surrounded by people, laughing and having a good time. Willingly.

After his own boyfriend had excused himself to use the bathroom, Luka had been approached by Tomáš - one of his closest friends - and the pair of them had eventually been persuaded to mingle where the dancing was happening at the insistence of the namesday boy himself. A group had quickly formed around them all, spurned on by a particularly catchy song that, if asked, Luka would deny even knowing, let alone liking. It was here, drink in hand and smile on face as he danced, that Felix found him.

Felix wasn't able to sleep. It was too hot inside, even though he had already moved to lie on top of the covers and discarded the top of his pjs. He was simply restless and too awake.

After what felt like an eternity of tossing and turning - though it was probably just a few minutes - he poked his boyfriend's side. Technically, Felix was sure, he wasn't supposed to be in Luka's bedroom at night; he had been assigned his own bed. That hadn't stopped him from sneaking into Luka's bed while they'd been staying at the twins' house. Sometimes for an intimate encounter, though sometimes just to sleep.

"Are you awake, mi sol?" he asked in a whisper; it was hard to tell with Luka. "We should, I don't know, have an adventure."

Heath Zeller was crushing. Hard.

At first, he hadn't realised what had been going on. Lýdia was a friend, perhaps in a more casual sense than Heath would have liked, but there were lots of people whom he wished he knew better. That was just the sort of person he was. They shared classes and clubs and mutual friends, and there was nothing about the girl that Heath found he disliked save how little he really knew her.

Such an opinion was strengthened once they found themselves cast opposite one another in the school production of Wicked, with the pair of them beginning to spend more time together. It was during official rehearsals at club meetings, script reading in the common room, and the odd line exchange in the corridors between classes that Heath found himself feeling things that he hadn't experienced before as he spent more and more time with Lýdia. His emotions altered subtly and slowly, so steadily that the realisation that he was falling for Lýdia came as a pleasant revelation rather than a panicked shock. The winter break had given him all the time he needed to work out what he was going to do once the school year began again, with him wanting to make as little drama out of things as possible. There was no need to get worked up over something that he already felt so at ease with. Yet it wasn't until the end of the first rehearsals of the new year that he was able to finally catch the opportune moment to act.

Heath had been in the middle of talking to one of the younger students, a fourth year who was a member of the ensemble, when he caught sight of Lýdia heading towards the door out of the corner of his eye. It took him no time at all to decide that now was as good a time as any to make light of his feelings, with him quickly excusing himself before jogging over to her.

"Hey Lýdia?" he said, flashing her a smile as he came to stop beside her. "That was a really good rehearsal. You sounded great."

Long time, no talk! I hope you've been doing well from what Luka has sa and that this letter doesn't come as too much of a surprise.

The thing is, we - that is, Lydia and I - are having a bit of a get together the day after Christmas, on Boxing Day, and I was wondering if maybe you'd be interested in coming along? It'd be really nice to see you again and have a catch up. Also, feel free to bring along your family. The more the merrier!

For a moment, Felix wasn't sure where he was. The bed had an unfamiliar feel. Then he remembered, in the pleasant ache of his body, what had went down the night before. Blindly, he patted the sheets around himself in hopes of locating Luka but ended up empty handed. For a moment his heart shrank as he thought that the other man had abandoned him after their last night's encounter. But he quickly realized what a silly thought it was. It was Luka's place, after all. Silly him. Unless Luka had in fact left and was hoping to find his apartment empty when he got back?

He opened his eyes into the daylight and forced himself to sit up and listen to the sounds around him. Though he couldn't quite identify what he heard, he came to the conclusion that he wasn't alone after all. With that in mind, he gave himself a few more minutes to wake up before he climbed out of the bed in search for his underwear so that he could explore the situation further.

Luka didn't really know what was going on. Felix's reappearance in his life had shaken things up in a way that he could have never expected, and every moment he spent with his former boyfriend rattled him all the more. They weren't the same people they had been back then, despite the brief glimpses he saw of a teenage Felix, and so much had changed. But they had been getting to know one another again, a fresh start, and Luka had quickly come to realise that he liked the person Felix had become as much as he had ever liked the other man when he had been a boy. While that wasn't an issue, Luka still remembered how much it had hurt trying to piece himself back together after they had broken up all those years ago. He didn't want to risk that happening again, no matter how much he had grown to like Felix again. They had been taking things slow and Luka had refused to put a label on whatever it was he and Felix were. They met up and had fun together, talked almost daily in one way or another, and had once again become a part of one another's lives. Yet he could feel the tension brewing between them, the ache of wanting to push this into something more permanent, something both brand new and comfortingly familiar.

That night, both of them had gone to a club together to get away from the pressures of adult life. Between work and family, both of them were in desperate need of some fun. Luka had felt as though it had been a good night and he'd had a great time, drinking and dancing into the small hours of the morning. While he was sure that he would regret it all in the morning, he was still riding the high of the evening to worry himself with the consequences of his actions.

At present, he was too preoccupied with finding his apartment keys in his jacket pocket, the light in the alleyway that he and Felix had just apparated into making his job harder than it ought to have been. Eventually his fingers curled around them, just as the pair of them reached his place. "Thanks for getting me home safe," he teased, sending Felix a smile as they walked up the stairs to the front door. Making quick work of letting them both in, Luka didn't stop to see if Felix was following before moving into the hall and stopping in front of his apartment door.
