stranded!
Who: Everyone at the Party
What: Black Tie Ball; STORM!
Where: Shangri-La Hotel on an off-coast Island
When: MARCH 10; 9pm
Rating: TBD
Open? to EVERYONE!

Lights flickered twice in the ballroom, causing the band to stop. Without music and the joyful voices filling the room, a roll of thunder could be heard outside along with the rain coming down in sheets against the window. Guests glanced warily at the doors as the wind picked up, howling through the doors in the lobby left open.

So as not to cause alarm, the host of the evening jumped up onto the platform where the band was set up, picking up a microphone to garner everyone's attention.

"Folks! If I could have your attention please. The storm that we'd hoped would roll right past us seems to have decided to stick around. So right now all the launch boats have been docked. Now this isn't to cause any alarm, and we've still got a full bar, and the band is just getting revved up for another set, so eat, drink, be merry, and we'll ride out this storm just fine. Thanks!"

And with that, the band picked up, hoping to play out just another couple of hours until the storm passed.

[ mod-note; I decided to wait a little later than noon (obviously) because the beginning thread was going so well. It is now 4:30 (PST), and this is just the first thread of the night. If you want to wait for the next one, go ahead - the BLACKOUT thread will go up promptly @ 7:30pm (PST) ]

LEO & ILLANA (the king and queen of quite a lot)

Leo had spent a vast majority of the evening mingling with city officials and tossing shit-eating grins in the general direction of the Connelly boys. He could play dirty, and still look good and kind doing it. Excusing himself from talking with the mayor himself, he clapped the older gentleman on the shoulder, promised to get in touch with him for a game of golf or something like that, and said he had been neglecting his wife for far too long.

He listened to the announcement and knew his statement of not spending enough time with his wife was true. He picked up two glasses of champagne before he wove through the crowd to find her. Finally spotting her, his fake smile took on a genuine bit to it, and he made his way over to her. "Have I mentioned that you look beautiful tonight?" He said as he leaned close to her to murmur against her ear.

And a very sexy king & queen they make, if I do say so myself!

Illana had never been a fan of schmoozing, but with her husband being who he was, she didn't really have any choice in the matter. And she had gotten much better at it as the years passed. While he went off to speak with the city officials, she took to speaking with their wives, sharing stories of her life with Leo, never anything too personal. She didn't like getting personal with people that she didn't know. She had received many compliments on her dress that evening, and she smiled every time. She had searched for the perfect dress to wear for quite some time, and had finally found it. The beaded pattern stretched all the way down to the very bottom of the dress, and it had a short train that dragged behind her as she walked.

Keeping her forced smile on her face, she nodded and laughed along with the other women she was speaking to, pretending that she actually cared what it was they were talking about. Her skills at that had grown, as well, and she smiled as she thought about it. Being married to Leo for so many years and made her quite an interesting woman with a multitude of talents. Including the intrigue she was able to fake when it came to things like this. Beginning to get bored with the whole act, she was about to excuse herself and walk away when she heard her husband's voice against her ear, and felt him behind her. Turning her head to glance at him, she smiled genuinely and took his offered glass of champagne. "A few times, actually, but it never hurts to be told again," she said, turning to face him.

Leo smirked a little and kissed her cheek before he stood up straight, his hand remaining on the small of her back. He glanced around the room as if he were looking for someone who might cause a disturbance. He was never completely relaxed when he was out at an event or meeting. He was "on the clock" so to speak of course, whenever he wasn't simply alone at home with his family.

"Enjoying yourself?" He asked before he sipped at champagne. He knew how much she disliked coming to these things, but the fact that she was there with him spoke volumes in itself. He'd have to remember to take her some place nice, just the two of them to make up for it. Plus the fact they were more or less stuck there for now, well, that was something he didn't like, but couldn't very well control. Might as well make the best of it.

She couldn't help but smile as she noticed his eyes scanning the crowd. He was always alert, no matter where they went. It was something she loved about him. But then again, she loved every single thing about him. Even the way he mumbled in his sleep. She had gotten so used to that mumbling that she couldn't sleep when it was quiet anymore. When he was away, she always tossed and turned, ending up reading a book or something instead.

Glancing back at him as he asked her if she was enjoying herself, she shrugged. "It's not the worst fundraiser I've ever been to," she said, following his lead and taking a sip of her champagne. "But, then again, I never really enjoy these things. Pretending I like everyone is just too much work," she said, then smiled up at her husband. "Luckily, when you come steal me away like that, I don't have to pretend anything," she said, reaching her arm up and locking it behind his neck. She was still just as in love with him now as the day she met him.

"Mm, no that honor goes to the one where Raul decided to audition for lead singer of the house band." He said, grinning down at her. He hugged his arm around her waist a little tighter, dare say possessively as he pressed a kiss against her hair. "Well you don't have to pretend to like anyone but me." He said, chuckling a little as he said it.

Smiling at her last comment, he nodded. "I'm yours for the night, I promise." Having already spoken to the men and women who could provide him good contacts here in Boston, and now business aside, he could devote his time to his wife.

She couldn't help the laugh that escaped when her husband brought up the fundraiser where Raul tried to be a singer. She remembered that well, and covered her mouth to keep from laughing too loud. "Oh, man," she shook her head, smiling up at Leo. "We have some interesting children, I'll tell you that much," she said, setting her empty champagne glass on a tray as one of the waiters passed. She moved the hand that had previously been holding onto the glass to his chest, resting against it.

She smiled, shaking her head at his comment about pretending to like anyone but him. "I don't have to pretend to like you, Leo," she said, smiling. "I'm your wife, remember? I can openly despise you if I wanted to," she teased, tightening her arm around his neck. "But, unfortunately, we won't be able to cause that kind of attention tonight. Because I just so happen to love you," she smiled, her hand on his chest fixing his jacket briefly before smoothing over his chest.

Leo chuckled and gave her a nod, casually raising his glass of champagne to his lips and taking a long sip. "Indeed we do. They get that whole 'crazy personality' thing from you, darling." He said, grinning widely at her as he said it. Having finished his own glass, he placed it down next to hers.

"Sometimes you do." He countered, grinning back at her. He laughed at her comment and nodded, his hands moving to loop easily around her waist. "What a fortunate man I am." He said, smirking a bit as he leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead. Glancing behind them, he gave her a small smile. "Come with me, I want to show you something." He reached down for her hand and tugged her out toward the lobby.

She playfully gasped, opening her mouth and glancing up at her husband. "Excuse me? I'm not the one that used to dance around in their boxers and pretend the broom was a guitar, back in college," she pointed out, raising a brow at him. "Just think of how Raul would think of you if he knew that," she giggled, covering her mouth. The memory was just too funny, one of her fondest, of course.

Nodding at his comment about being a fortunate man, Illana smirked. "Of course you are," she responded, tilting her head to the side and smiling up at him. She enjoyed being in his arms like this, she always felt like she was the safest woman in the world when his arms were around her. She closed her eyes and scrunched up her nose as he kissed her forehead, and then rose a brow at his comment. "Show me something?" she asked, grabbing his hand and following her. "Leo Marino, if this is like that time you told me you had a surprise for me, and then opened your hand to reveal a spider, I'll make your life miserable," she pointed out.

"HEY." He said, pointing a finger at her and shaking his head. "You my love, promised that you would never speak of that in public." He chuckled and squeezed her a little tighter to him. "Oh don't you dare tell him. I'll have to get that in writing."

"Yeah, show you something." He said, smiling again. A soft chuckle left his lips and he shook his head. "No bugs, I promise." He tugged on her, leading her to the far end of the room and toward a narrowing against the South side of the building. He stopped there, shrugging out of his jacket and then draping it over her shoulders. He didn't bother to glance back behind them or see if anyone was watching them, as nobody would stop him, and nobody could get to him, as his bodyguards were placed around the room as they should be.

"Through here." It took a little effort to swing a large glass framed door open, and he guided her outside into a shielded patio. Rain pummeled against the glass roofing there, wind howling through the gazebo-like patio. He shut the door behind them, the music and rumble of the crowd now muffled by the rain. "This, is what I wanted to show you." Standing behind her, he wrapped his arms around her body, pulling her back against his chest. He gestured toward the window in front of him, and the city across the water, blurred slightly by the rain.

Illana laughed, covering her mouth again. She leaned up on the tips of her toes and smiled, placing a kiss on his lips. "I'm sorry. Never again, I promise," she said, tilting her head to the side. "It's just ... you were such a dork. I don't think anyone knows what a dork you are but me, and your family. And I honestly like it that way," she smiled, running her hand down his chest softly. Shaking her head, she laughed again. "I won't tell him. Don't worry, love," she said, smiling.

"There better be no bugs," she muttered under her breath, "or no sex for a month," she said, unable to keep the smile out of her voice as he lead the way outside. When he shrugged off his jacket, she took it willingly and wrapped it around her shoulders. As he pushed open the door and guided her outside, she pulled his jacket tighter around her. The patio was shielded from the rain, but it was still chilly in there.

Leaning against his body as he pulled her against him, she rested her head against his shoulder and took in the sight of the city. "It's a gorgeous view," she said, nodding, her hands moving to cover his that rested around her waist. After a few moments, she turned her head to smile up at him. "You're such a romantic at heart," she accused, kissing the side of his face.
