Home at Last! Now what?
Who: Amelia and Cerri the Turtle
Where: Driving through SO and then Home
When: Early Morning around 9 am
The light of Amelia's Blackberry dimmed. The phone, which she had disabled before leaving the U.S., was getting more action than it had had in a very long time. It was still early and she was sitting in the backseat of the cab, heading home from the airport. She felt that she should have more people to tell of her return but ultimately, she didn't. Eventually she would have to reach out to more people but right now she just wanted to rest and take in her home. Besides, she had more email waiting for ther than expected. That was another thing she had stayed away from at the medical facility in Switzerland.
Amelia loved to travel. She loved to see sights and explore. Once she thought she could pick up and move and leave Scarlet Oak behind her. Now she knew how wrong that was. At first she thought it was because she knew she'd eventually return to Scarlet Oak that made her react the way she had, practically home sick. But, she was certain it was because she had a deep connection to her home town. She knew she had to return to do what she could to protect the people of Scarlet Oak. Now that she was home it felt strange. Nothing looked different. She didn't know why she thought it might. It felt the same. Perhaps some of the people walking around looked more nervous but that was justifiable. Now that she thought about it, though, the roads were more barren. She suspected people were inside, locked away to hide from any threat that may be lurking.
Clucking her tongue in distaste Amelia turned away from the window and looked down at the phone in her lap again. There were mutliple calls she should make but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. The thoughts nagged at her until she forced herself to think about other things. Like her house. She would need to call the cleaning agency to let them know she was back. The main purpose of hiring someone was so her house would stay clean but also to give the illusion of someone being there. One could never be too careful and Amelia wasn't going to let a thief think she was easy pickings! Now that she was back the cleaning woman would actually have someone to clean up after instead of spending an hour every two days watching Days of our Lives on Amelia's cable. Well, Amelia thought, maybe the woman could still watch Days. After all, Amelia could always use the company. The thought made her smile.
The drive back to her house was quick and Amelia's smile widened upon seeing her house. She had missed her space and she knew that Cerri missed his terrarium something fierce. The doctors didn't quite know how to react to Cerri and the staff in general frowned at the familiar's presence. Now that they were home they could get comfortable and relax, truly relax. For a little while anyway.
When she stepped into the house the sweet smell of flowers flowed to her nostrils and she took a deep breath. It was times like these that she appreciated what she paid for: a landscaper to come in and water her flowers, weed and maintain what she had already created and a house cleaner to keep a vase full of lovely flowers on her living room coffee table. Cerri poked his head out of his purse carrier, looking around with what Amelia could only identify as pleasure. His head stopped in the direction of his terrarium, which was maintained as she requested. She knew that when she came home it was going to be difficult to settle back in. The last thing she wanted was for Cerri to have to wait to have some cool water to float in.
Amelia set the carrier down and Cerri thunked it over and crawled out, making a bee line for the terrarium. With a chuckle Amelia carried her bags to her room and set them down. It was good to be home. Except for the need to get in touch with people and let them know she's back. It was why she came home, after all, but now the whole thing just felt awkward. After all, what would she say, "HI! I got home sick so quit my essential treatment!"? This was going to get weird.
With a sigh she looked down at the Blackberry in her hand and began to scroll through her contact list. She stopped at her doctor's name and pressed call. First things first, letting her doctor know she arrived safe and that she'd be fine for her morning appointment tomorrow. She pulled her wig off and ran a hand across her bare head, relishing the relief from the discomfort.
