An Uncomfortable Conversation
Who: Brady and Emma Jane
When: Monday morning
Where: The Inn
He was trying to avoid the Inn all weekend. Brady could claim that it was because of the fact that he was trying to be around the Inn less and less, and that would be a valid reason for him not being near the Inn, but it would be a complete and utter lie. The truth was that he was still playing the avoidance game with Emma Jane. After what had happened on Thursday, he wasn’t ready to talk to her about what she was doing. He had tried. Brady had brought up her number plenty of times over the weekend, ready to press the button that would send the call to her. He never pressed that button, though. He would just close his phone. Ultimately, Brady decided that it would be best if they had the conversation in person. It was something that needed to be talked about face to face. Emma Jane deserved that courtesy.
The problem was knowing when the conversation would happen. He wasn’t quite ready to start talking to her about what she was doing. The possible mistake that she was making. He didn’t have anything against Eric, in life or in death. He just knew that there was something that was not right at all about dating a ghost. How could a person even see a ghost? More importantly, how could a person live a life while they were attached to a ghost?
It was different with his grandfather. Bryan Porter hadn’t even bothered to try and move on after Ellen died. In a way he was in a relationship with a ghost. But it was more of a memory than an actual ghost. What Emma Jane was doing, or what he firmly believed that Emma Jane was doing because he really hadn’t stuck around for complete confirmation as to her exact relationship status, was completely different. It was having a relationship with a specter. And that… was just odd.
Although he had tried really hard to have a valid reason for his avoidance of the Inn on a Monday, he knew that it just wasn’t going to be an option. They were closing in closer and closer on the 4th of July. The big day that the Inn would have to be at the top of its game. Brady couldn’t let his personal problems get in the way of him doing his job effectively. He just wouldn’t do that.
But how to avoid Emma Jane while doing it? Staying away from the restaurant would be an easy plan, but it wasn’t like she only operated in the restaurant. Maybe he could convince one of his employees to tie a bell to her or something.
Yeah, that’d go over well.
