They say love is blind...
WHO: Julian & Farren
WHERE: The Owl's Nest -> Berry Bucket
WHEN: July 2002
He should have suspected something was wrong when August refused to divulge his date's name or address. In the past, whenever he'd been forced on one of these dates, he'd at least gotten a name. Or been able to do the gentlemanly thing and pick the lady up at her home, usually saying a quick hello to her parents. Many werewolves still lived with or at least close to their parents and, if nothing else, he could at least put his best foot forward so that when the relationship ended (inevitably), the girl's pack didn't feel like murdering him in his sleep. So far, he'd managed to avoid anything of the sort, usually keeping fairly amiable relationships with all the girls August (and others) had set him up with. Tonight, however, August had set him up with a 'friend of a friend' and that was suspicious enough in itself. Still, ever dutiful to his best friend, he'd gone along with it. Made reservations at the best restaurant in town, made sure the movies playing at the drive-in were decent, and even shaved and cleaned up. Even with the nagging voice in the back of his head that something was off.
Julian had hoped that he was just being nervous. After all, it'd been almost half a year since his last date (hence why August had decided to step in). His worries were validated, however, when he spotted August's sister being guided towards his table.
Farren was beautiful, no question about that, and she'd always been a lot of fun to be around when they were kids. She had always been trying to keep up with them, playing boys' games and being an overall nuisance. Which had been endearing and (mostly) annoying. But that was just it. Farren was like a little sister. And while he'd always heard that August had ideas for him and his sister, he'd just ignored it. Mostly because August had always ignored suggestions that he marry Caro or Christie. Caro was expecting her first pup, actually, and Christie was engaged. So August had dodged those bullets. Claire was only 12 and seemed to like books a helluva lot more than boys, so no one was suggesting that pairing quite yet. Standing when the waiter brought Farren to his - their - table, he smiled wanly and shrugged. "Hey."
