Who: Elsie and Zach
When: Early morning
Where: Outskirts of Scarlet Oak
What: Running, other stuff?
It had been a few weeks without sight nor sign of the McQueen twins, and Elsie was grateful for that. She'd imagined it would be hard to avoid them in a town the size of Scarlet oak, but it was turning out to be easier than she'd realized. Though it didn't hurt that she'd been working especially long hours, spending the majority of her time in Ann Arbor on the university campus.
She'd sacrificed a lot of free time with the projects she was working on, seeing the hours away from home as something of a blessing, her morning runs weren't something she was willing to give up. Following a night like the one she'd had, where she'd barely slept and what little sleep she'd gotten had been filled with nightmares, it was especially necessary.
But it was a good morning for a long run; the temperature was nice and cool, the leaves were turning colors, and Elsie had a new running prosthetic. The c-shaped foot blade was equipped with a new, high-tech rubber sole that was supposed to provide increased traction, stability, and performance, and she was looking forward to trying it out. She dressed, grabbed a quick snack and slid on her camelback. Stepping outside, she locked the door behind her and slid the key in a zippered pocket.
Stretching on her front porch, she set off at a light jog; it wouldn't take long before she settled into the ground-eating pace she'd be able to hold for hours.
