And the cat's in the cradle
Who: Kristen and Missy
Where: Ann Arbor
When: Afternoon
It had been far too long since Missy had been the one to take Kristen to her gymnastics practice - instead of just showing up for a meet here or there when she scraped together the time - and she had decided that today was going to be different. She had somehow managed to get to sleep at a reasonable hour and had actually... no, that was not true, she had slept horribly. It was as though her dreams had decided to loop the previous night all over again and she had woken left with a feeling of emptiness gnawing away at her stomach. This time it was not hunger, it was something that she was not going to name. Something that only got worse when she unplugged her phone from the charger and saw that her only messages were from Jon and her boss. Nothing at all from Jadyn. All that she could think of now when the name 'Jadyn' floated across her mind was the sound of that woman's voice on the other end of the phone. Missy had felt bad about kissing Nikita the other night - mostly, it was... it was complicated and she had yet to work it all out - but now whatever she felt was even more tangled because Jadyn was with someone else. All of it was enough to make her want to burrow back under her blankets and ignore the sun, but Kristen had practice today and Missy had said that she would take her and that after they would have lunch together.
Every time that Missy went to the gym she was never disappointed by Kristen's progress. The girl was an excellent gymnast who deserved the praise that she got and even if she took a few tumbles here or there it was fine, it was just practice and she had time to get better. She's better than I was, was something that Missy realized as she was standing around making very idle chit-chat with the moms of the other girls. For the most part they tended to not avoid her too much, but these days there always seemed to be that lingering air of 'you don't belong here' that Missy agreed with. She was not a single thing like them and hated their topic of discussion, but it was worth it to see Kristen smiling when she came out of the locker room. "You did great," Missy congratulated, leaning down to hug her sister. Her smiled only faltered a little when Kristen stiffened, but she did not immediately let go or step away. They were adjusted, it was just taking a little bit of time. "So!" Missy smiled brightly, glamour firmly in place to hide her fangs. "Picked where you want to go for lunch before we head home?" And no, she did not feel the slightest of twinges when she realized that the house that popped into her mind was not the one that she and Kristen had lived in for the past few years, but the one where a very specific Russian vampire and her adopted were-cat daughter lived.
