Won't walk away but she won't look back
Who: Chloe and Darcie
When: Mid-afternoon
Where: Random street
Darcie hadn't forgotten about Rodger's inability to let her use the phone, but she had stopped trying after he caught her in the wee hours of the morning. Instead she'd decided that she would just go and see for herself after Rodger left for work and she was alone. She knew that she wasn't supposed to go out then but she didn't care, it hadn't ever stopped her before so it wouldn't stop her now either. Only it was really, really hard to tell if someone was okay when they weren't at home. Darcie knew the way from where she lived with Rodger to where Zaviar was and if she didn't then she was positive that his scent saturated the ground (it didn't) so she'd always find it. And she had, but his car and Antonin's were gone and there was no one but the dog inside. Since she didn't want to talk to the dog or listen to anything he said Darcie had turned and wandered off towards Scarlet Oak itself. What she really wanted to do was go and see what people had termed as the disaster zone, but she didn't know the way there. So instead she was just going to see if everyone was still out and about instead of huddled in around their TVs like that'd keep them safe. It was so silly of them to think that anywhere was safe.
She tripped suddenly, not over a crack or nothing, but over the hem of her pants. Oh, these weren't her pants, they were way too big, had she pulled on Rodger's by accident again? Hmmm, he needed to learn to separate them better. At least she'd put on her own shirt and shoes and she was pretty sure that the sunglasses were hers. Earrings had been foregone after she had missed the hole the first time and had a minor fit over the blob of red that had leaked down onto her shirt before the wound had closed itself. Distracted by her study of her clothes, because of course she hadn't stopped walking while she was that'd just be ridiculous, Darcie was surprised when she caught the scent of someone else right ahead of her. Who'd said that someone else could be on the sidewalk with her? The were's eyes narrowed when she looked up and saw a woman with odd hair walking in her direction. That's not right. Didn't that woman know that there could currently only be two people inhabiting the same space? People couldn't be close to Darcie right now or else Air would take himself away from her and she wouldn't be able to breathe. Was this woman trying to kill her? What had she done to her?
A sense of panic was gripping at her insides with icy fingers and Darcie rocked back on her heels, hands knotting themselves together in front of her. Already she could feel her breaths coming shorter as Air started to pull away from her, shunning her as he'd done oh so many times before. I'm sorry, was what she wanted to say, but she couldn't waste the little air that was left to her. Instead she did what her rapidly panicking mind was telling her was the absolutely only choice. She kept walking and angled herself so that her shoulder would connect with the other woman's and hopefully send her crashing to the ground. Then the air would be knocked right out of her and Darcie could have it back. Yes, yes that was brilliant, that was what she needed to do.
