things you do for the ones you love
Who: Nikita and Missy
Where: The Peloe household
When: Early Evening
She had hoped that it wouldn't have come to this. It had been many years since Nikita herself had been a child. She had assumed, perhaps mistakenly, that the fight between Silvia and Kristen would blow over. Was it not the way of children? An argument would erupt over something simple, a day -- maybe less -- would pass without speaking, and before you knew it all was forgotten. She had waited a few days before speaking with Kristen, hoping things would take care of themselves, and waited further still when that conversation had proven less than successful. Kristen didn't seem so sure that she should dislike Silvia in the first place, or even really sure that she disliked Nikita; the little girl seemed like someone who was trying to gain their own understanding of the world, while someone they loved was spouting filth and hate in her ear. It wasn't the little girl's fault and she would never blame her for the things she had said when they spoke, but that didn't change the fact that something had to be done. Nikita would do anything to make Silvia happy and today she was going to put that fact to the test. If there was even a glimmer of a chance for things to be resolved between the two young girls, she was going to have to speak to the source of all the problems. Missy. Nikita wasn't sure what bothered her more: the fact that Missy was beginning to have a negative influence on Kristen or that she was indirectly making Silvia upset. She was going to go with both, just for good measure. It wasn't like she could dislike the woman any more than she already did. The ride over to the Peloe house seemed to take forever and she felt like nerves were going to eat away at her stomach. The idea of seeing Missy didn't make her feel anxious, far from it. Nikita was determined to have a civil conversation with the other woman, one that didn't involve guns, and the idea made her insides twist in a knot. It was the last thing she wanted to do. How many things in her life would be simplified, Nikita wondered, if she could just get rid of Missy altogether. "Wait here. I'll be back in 20 minutes," her voice was stiff when speaking to her chauffeur. She was not in the mood to be pleasant and even if she was, her tone would have remained the same when addressing the man. Nikita highly doubted that Missy would pull a gun on her in her own home, especially if Kristen was anywhere around. There was never a question in her mind of not being able to return to her car and leave; whether she would be entirely in one piece was always up in the air. She took a deep, steadying breath as she checked to make sure that the gun in her purse was loaded and the safety was on before she put it back. Though she reminded herself that the gun wasn't necessary, instinct told her that she would rather be safe than sorry; Nikita had learned never to ignore instinct. As casually as she could manage, Nikita stepped out of the car and walked up to the front door of the Peloe household. She knocked and waited, for the first time ever hoping that Missy would be the one to answer. |
