WHO: The Doctor and Tonks
WHEN: Day Five, midmorning
WHAT: Meeting/Canon confetti
WHERE: Near the dorms
RATING: PG
STATUS: Complete

The Doctor was being...well, the Doctor. Very curious, a little stupid, and generally looking completely mad.

Because, well, he was standing outside, in the pouring rain, with his head tipped back and his mouth open wide. It was fairly obvious that he'd been out there a while, as his trench coat and suit were sopping wet, and his once white trainers were the general colour of mud splatters. Like the child at heart he was, he looked like he was having a blast, though he actually was doing something important. The Doctor knew that if he could just figure out what that one hint of a taste was, he could figure out whereabouts in the universe they were, and hopefully, use that to figure out a way to get the hell off this rock.

Seeing something out of the corner of his eye, the Doctor righted his head and looked in that direction, his tongue hanging out and a confused expression on his face. Who in their right mind would be out in this weather?

Well, aside from him, anyway.

Tonks was compeletely torn these days. She went in between being insanely happy and completely worried, and there was little rhyme or reason to it. However, just at the moment, she was feeling ecstatic. Not just a little bit, either, but to the point where she was actually sort of skipping a bit as she walked. It was a little bit funny to watch, because she tripped every couple of steps or so, but that was typical of her.

So, what had her so cheerful? A thing that normally would have made her a bit worried. When she'd woken up this morning, for the first time, she'd noticed that her stomach was starting to round out. The baby was no longer just an abstract idea, but a reality. It was going to happen. And apparently overnight, it had started to become noticeable. Not much, and only when she was naked, but still. It was a secret that made her smile.

Though ahe'd been so tired at first, at this point in her pregnancy she was brimming with energy. A walk would be pretty much perfect right now. So she gathered up her things, dressed in a simple jeans and t shirt combo, and made herself resistant to water with a quick spell. Once that was done, she headed out. Only to run almost immediately into a man who appeared to be... well, she wasn't quite sure what she was doing.

"Um... if you need a drink, I can help...?" She pulled out her wand and swished it so a little jet of water came out. "See? You don't need to drink the rain."

"I'm not drinking it, at least for hydration," The Doctor smiled and shook his head, about to continue to correct the colourful woman in front of him, when he saw her pull out a wand and shoot water at the ground.

Mud? What mud? The Doctor hit his knees directly in the path of the stream of water, so it ended up hitting him square in the chest, and angled his head to look at the tip of her wand, as if he were looking for a hole that the water came through. He weaved his head and caught some in his mouth, smacking his lips and tilting his head to the side. "Filtered. Interesting..." While he was down there, he also noticed that the water bounced off this woman as if she were wearing an invisible rain slicker.

The sonic screwdriver came out, and the Doctor ran it up the woman's leg, about an inch off of the denim of her jeans, paused at her hip and smiled a little, then went down her arm to the tip of her wand. "Magic. Actual magic. Like Harry Potter!" he said, jumping to his feet in one smooth movement, beaming.

"Oh, you're brilliant, you are," he grinned happily, shoving his screw driver in his pocket and bouncing softly on the balls of his feet. "I'm the Doctor."

Some people would have been completely confused. To be fair, Tonks was, as well. But she was also a bit odd herself, so she just smiled at him and accepted what he said. "Alright, then. Hullo. Who are you?" She was about to introduce herself, but then she had a very strange man looking up at her wand.

Then, when it couldn't possibly get any weirder, it did. He had some odd device pointed at her, and she was instantly on guard, ready to bring it to bear. But he hadn't attacked her, and she wasn't that trigger happy. So she waited, somewhere between alarmed and amused, as he checked her over. Normally, that might get someone a slapped face, but it was impossible to take this the wrong way.

"Hmm? No, I'm better than Harry is. But then, he's a lot younger, isn't he? Not the lads fault. He'll learn. It's in his blood." Then, she paused and thought about things. "Wait, you know Harry? Are you from my world?"

She shook her head and looked confused, tabling that question for now. "Doctor? One of those muggle nutters who carve people up? I mean... Wotcher, I'm Tonks."

The Doctor listened to her, highly amused that he had a living, breathing Potterite in front of him, and then he realised who she was, before she'd even introduced herself. Which caused him to bounce some more. Tonks had always been his favourite character, and here she was, in the flesh.

"You're Tonks. Nymphadora Tonks!" Like the woman didn't know her own name. He couldn't help himself. The Doctor threw his arms around her and picked her up in a huge hug before setting her back down and skipping around in an excited little dance, wearing a shit-eating grin.

"Sorry, no...um..." Eh, the hell with it. "I've read all the books. The whole story about Harry and the lot of you," he grinned. "Is that Teddy?" he asked, pointing at Tonks' stomach excitedly. "And you're not--" he stopped himself and frowned. "Wait a tick. What's the last thing that happened to you?"

Dark eyes widened as she looked at the man, and then she shook her head and looked, really looked, at him. "Bloody hell! Stay back from me, Barty! Merlin, I heard the dementors kissed you? And what's the King thinking, bringing a sodding..." Her wand, which she'd been holding at her side loosely, was now firmly pointed in his direction.

"Well, I'm putting you under arrest. There's no Azkaban here, but that won't stop me from holding you. Bloody dementors, not even good for one of the few things they can do..." She took a step back, and for once, she didn't trip. But then, she was an Auror, and someone surprisingly competant while on the job.

She squeaked as she was picked up and hugged, and pushed the man away as best she could. "Don't do that! And how do you know about...?" She rested her free hand on her stomach, and then glared at the Doctor. "Don't even think about hurting my child, and I'm not telling you anything, Death Eater."

The Doctor blinked a couple of times and put his hands up in a surrendering position, trying to figure out what this mad woman was talking about. "Barty...Barty..." he muttered, trying to remember. "Oh! Crouch! Well there's the one that got transfigured into a bone and buried and then the young psychotic one that got his soul sucked out...That must be who she's talking about..." It was like Tonks wasn't even there any more, honestly. The Doctor was just hanging out with his hands in the air, muttering to himself. Normal day, really.

"I'm not Barty Crouch. Either one of them," he promised, and then gestured to his pocket. "I'm just going to get my identification," he promised, slowly slipping his hand into his pocket, not making any sudden movements, and pulled out a billfold with a piece of highly useful and slightly psychic paper jammed in.

Now normally, it would have some cock-and-bull nonsense about being head of the Misuse of Magic office or some bullocks, but given that he'd already mentioned the books, and they were in crazy-land, the Doctor went with the (relative) truth. When he passed it over, the paper read The Doctor. President of the Nymphadora Tonks Fan Club.

Tonks kept him covered with her wand as he muttered to herself, feeling somewhat off-guard by the whole situation. She wasn't used to being talked about like she wasn't there, not by anyone but Sirius' crazy old house elf who did it to everyone. She blinked, but kept her eyes firmly fixed on him as he worked it out. "Merlin, you really are a nutter, aren't you?" She might almost be said to sound amused, if she wasn't so cautious.

She paid close attention, but, being an Auror, she tended to have a good sense of reading people. Not infallible, of course, but good. And anyway, if he came out with a wand, she was ready to blast him the second it made an appearance. Instead, she got a piece of paper, which she accepted very, very carefully.

When she glanced down at it, she stared outright and then burst into laughter. "That's bloody brilliant! How did you do that?" She kept her wand on him, but was infinitely more friendly now. Though there still remained the issue of... "How is it you look exactly like him? Well... less crazy, a little, but still." Not that she was convinced it wasn't Barty Crouch jr, but she was willing to have an open mind.

"I've been called that a time or two," the Doctor admitted, and he really didn't look all that upset about it, as it were.

He took back his billfold as she laughed and shook his head. "It's psychic paper. It'll tell you anything I want it to. But, as it were, that was the relative truth," he shrugged. And really, he couldn't have been that bad of a guy if he'd just admitted all of that, right? A creeper wouldn't have.

"Actually, I have a couple of theories about that," the Doctor admitted, looking back up at the rain again, not bothered in the least that he still had a wand pointed at his chest. "There's that saying on Earth that everyone has a twin, right? Perhaps it works through-out the universe as well? Or," he said, without really missing a beat. "Apparently there's a television show about me, and the bloke that plays me looks a lot like me. Perhaps in the movie versions of your books, the same guy plays Barty Crouch Jr?" He grinned then. "Or it's just a really barmey coincidence."

Tonks shook her head, definitely amused now. It wasn't like she'd had a whole lot of interaction with the younger Barty Crouch, but she didn't see him as exactly the sort of person who would act the way this Doctor was. "Doesn't surprise me... me too, though."

She tilted her head to the side and looked at him. "Fan club? I get a fan club?" Alright, so Tonks was a fairly practical person. That didn't stop her from being affected by flattery, especially when it came in so seemingly sincere a form.

As he spoke, she let her wand arm drop down to her side, but didn't put the thing away. She was warming up to this strange person, but that didn't mean she was an idiot. But his behavior reminded her a little of Luna, really. Male, older Luna. "Huh. I don't know about this muggle stuff." She tilted her head to the side. "So you've read them too? I sort of hoped that someone suffered temporary insanity when they said there were books about me." She paused. "Movies? That one's new."

"As far as I'm concerned you've got one," the Doctor smiled. He'd always liked Tonks the best. She endeared herself to him in a way that his companions usually did. A little nuts, very bold, and just a hint of clumsy. A perfect combination, in his mind.

The Doctor nodded. "They're making movies of all the books. You're played by someone that looks different though," he admitted with a little shrug. Then he grinned. "You're prettier," he assured her.

Experiment forgotten completely, as the Doctor had the attention span of a fruit fly, he offered his arm to Tonks and looked up. "Let's get out of this mad rain," he suggested, leading her toward the TARDIS.

Oh, yeah. Tonks was definitely not immune to that sort of thing, and found herself blushing a little bit. She smiled at him widely, and then nodded decisively. "Alright, Doctor. You can stay. I've decided."

She looked confused, though, when he mentioned the movies. "How can I be played by anyone else? Does she even look like me?" She glanced down at herself, still finding the whole thing a little weird. An actress, playing her? And the book series freaked her out a bit, too, though it wasn't the first time she'd heard of it.

Still bemused, she accepted his offered arm and walked along with him. "I still don't understand how someone could have written a book about everything that happened, do you?"

The Doctor looked Tonks over and shrugged. "Like I said, you're prettier," he admitted. "They got the hair right though," he teased, reaching out to tug on one of the strands lightly. He was still in shock. A real, live Tonks, hanging on his arm. Brilliant!

"I have a couple of theories," he admitted, though really, he was trying to adjust his own theories to fit what he knew about Tonks and her creation history. He decided that the kindest thing to do would be to tell her the same thing he'd told Edward. "I think that, if there are fictionalized accounts of our lives, it just means that we've inspired someone," he shrugged, his voice light. "And there isn't anything wrong with that."

They'd reached the TARDIS at this point, and the Doctor smiled, unlocking the door and holding it open for Tonks to go in first. He loved this part, even though the inevitable It's bigger on the inside comment tended to get annoying after a few hundred years. "Welcome to the TARDIS," he offered, ushering her inside.

As she was ushered inside what looked to be some sort of muggle phone booth or something like that, Tonks was far too interested in looking around her to make any sort of comment whatsoever about it being bigger on the inside. She probably wouldn't have anyway, since she'd seem some pretty odd things in her time. And, after all, the tents in the Wizard world were very much the same, so it didn't bother her in the slightest.

What did get her attention, though, was what was actually inside the place. Her eyes were enormous as she looked around her, taking in every detail. "Bloody brilliant..." She finally breathed out, before turning to him with an enormous smile.

"I've never seen anything like this. What is this place? What does it do? TARDIS? What's that stand for?" When interested in something, she tended to babble a lot, and that was obviously the case here as well.

Following her inside, the Doctor shut the door behind them, and stood smiling, his hands shoved in his pockets, rocking back and forth between his feet, clearly pleased by her reaction to his wonderful ship.

"It's a space ship," he smiled, moving to the console and running his fingers along the controls lightly, as one would stroke a much-loved cat, or pet a friend's head. The TARDIS responded, the blue cylinder in the center of the console lighting up slightly, the internal components sliding upward before they shuddered to a stop again. "TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space," he explained.

"I can go anywhere in the universe in her. And anywhere in time," he grinned, but then he made a face. "Well, I could," he amended. "She's not working right now, given that we're stuck here." Clearly, he didn't like that much at all, from the look on his face. When the TARDIS wasn't feeling well, the Doctor was not a happy camper.

Tonks' eyes glazed over as he explained about TARDIS. It wasn't that she wasn't interested, it was just that she was so completely out of her element, and had no idea what he was talking about. She got like that when Marcus started talking space travel, too.

"Oh. Well, it's really amazing, isn't it?" She glanced around one more time, then wandered over to the console and peering at it intently. She watched with great attention as he made the lights come on, and gasped softly. Sometimes, it was hard for her to believe that some of this stuff from the future wasn't magic, though she'd been told it wasn't.

"Wait, anywhere in the universe? Do you think you could get it fixed? We could all go home..." But a quick spasm of pain crossed her face, and her hand rested on her stomach briefly. If she went home, she'd leave Marcus, and they'd never get to raise their child together. But what other choice was there?

When Tonks went on a mental vacation, the Doctor gave her a look that Rose generally described as making her feel like she'd just dribbled on her shirt. It wasn't his fault that he had a head for that kind of stuff, and little patience for those that didn't. But well, he was used to being the smartest person in the room. It had been a long 900-something years, after all.

Her gasp had him smiling sadly. "She's sick," he said with a shake of his head. "The last time this happened...well. I really hope it's Jareth and not like the last time," he sighed. That had not been a fun experience. "She's trying to help though," he smiled, petting the TARDIS again. The way he talked about the ship, it was like she was alive. And well, she was.

"I'm doing what I can," he nodded, clearly frustrated by the lack of progress. Granted, he probably wouldn't leave for good if he did get it fixed, this place was far too entertaining, but not having an escape route was bothering him quite a bit. More than he wanted to admit, actually. Her pain did not go unnoticed, and the Doctor smiled softly. "I can take you anywhere," he clarified. "If you wanted to leave. It wouldn't be a requirement or anything. This place, after all, seems to be as good a home as any."

Tonks was observant, usually, and probably normally would have noticed the expression on his face. But she was rather lost in thought, and it escaped her notice. Which was probably just as well, really. Though, she did tend to be a cheerful person, and she was used to people thinking she wasn't as smart as she was. And, anyway, this Doctor person obviously was smarter than her. She wasn't the sort to get annoyed about things that were true.

When the Doctor started refering to TARDIS as a 'she', Tonks followed suite. It seemed only polite. "Oh, no! I hope she gets better soon." She tentatively reached out and patted the console, trying to stay away from anything important. Not that she really knew what was important, of course, but she gave it her best effort.

But she stopped, and sighed softly, as she turned to face him once more. "Even if I did want to stay here, Marcus wouldn't." She was fairly sure about that. The Ranger had a sense of duty that was pretty much second to none. "And if he goes, I might as well go home, too. At least I can help my friends and family in the war."

When Tonks stroked the ship, the light flickered a little in the console. Not nearly as brightly as it had when the Doctor had petted her, but still it was there. He grinned. "She likes you," he said with an emphatic nod.

The Doctor winced when Tonks said that she'd go home. Her showing up out of the blue knocked up with some other bloke's baby would put a bit of a damper on things. Would Lupin end up travelling with the Trio on their quest? Would he and Tonks end up among the dead at the end, fighting for their family and friends, when they weren't preoccupied with finding each other? And what about future generations? Would Teddy and Victore end up together? Well, no, because Teddy wouldn't exist.

"Well uh..." He dodged. "It's not an option yet so..." The Doctor finished off that oh-so-brilliantly formed sentence with an emphatic nod. Smooth, Doctor. Real smooth.

Tonks gasped once more as the lights flickered, but despite her initial surprise, she was delighted. "She does?" She sounded a little like a bookworm who had just won a spelling competition or something, completely thrilled by the fact that a spaceship liked her. "I've never been liked by a spaceship before..."

She turned her dark gaze to him, smiling, but that expression turned to a frown as she saw the look on his face. "Uh... is something wrong, Doctor?" She hurried on. "It's just that you seem a little... you know, worried or something."

The bright-haired witch watched him, concerned, as he stammered through his reply. She shook her head and frowned a little. "This is about Remus, isn't it? You said you'd seen movies and read books or something." Her voice was very quiet, and she laid her hand on her stomach once more.

The Doctor grinned. "And she doesn't like just anyone either. My friend Jack, she went to the end of the universe trying to shake him off, once upon a time."

This, right there, was why the Doctor needed a companion. He needed someone to smack him around the gourd when he was being a moron. Like now.

"No, no it's fine," he said, waving her off as best as he could, not meeting her eye. "It's just...you being here might change things. Might not. Never know," he shrugged, talking a little more erratically than usual. "You can never be sure. And given that you might be able to go back someday...I...I can't tell you."

Tonks grinned. Maybe it was a bit shallow of her, but she liked being told that she was liked. Probably a natural human response, really. But being liked by a spaceship had to be something special, she decided. Especially if it, or rather she, didn't like everyone.

The witch blinked at the Doctor as he stammered and stumbled some more. Finally, she shook her head, smiled, and patted him in a friendly way on the shoulder. "It's okay, luv, just relax."

She was pretty sure she knew what was bothering him, at least partially. So she took the bit between her teeth and did some stumbling and rambling of her own. "If you're worried and Remus, or me, it's okay. I know that I'm supposed to die." She'd been told back on Mirage, by someone from her own world, as well as multiple people here. Really, people seemed to be almost tripping over themselves trying to tell her these things. "I know, and I still think I should go back. What if me not being there makes my side lose?"

The Doctor was more concerned about her going back pregnant with a baby that was - as near as he could figure - an alien's, at least to the folks in Harry Potter land. Because who knew how weirdly that could screw things up, particularly with...well, it was just all bad. But not really a worry currently.

"I don't know," he admitted, shaking his head and sitting down on the jump seat, which was more of a jump couch, patting the cushion next to him. "I'm sorry you got told though, that was messed up," he said with a shake of his head. People could be so careless. Now when the Doctor did it, that was an entirely different story. He was a Time Lord. He was allowed to screw things up completely...Or something.

But still the Doctor considered her very brave, and told her so. "Most people would avoid the future, if they knew what it held," he pointed out, kicking his feet up on the edge of the control panel. "You're to be admired."

The witch sighed softly and shook her head. When he indicated that she should seat herself, she wandered over to the cushion and flopped down on it rather gracelessly. The truth was, it was hard to feel brave when there was a large part of her that simply wanted to go hide under a rock with Marcus, and have their baby in peace.

She shrugged as she turned to face him. "I'd rather know. This way, I know what I'm going back to. And maybe, because I know, I can change things." She tilted her head as she looked at him. "Do you think I could? Change things, I mean?"

Tonks frowned as she thought about that further. "Oh, and if I did, would it change the words that were written down in the books? This is bloody confusing."

The Doctor shuddered. "Please don't," he said automatically, and then realised how rude that sounded. Yet again, rude and not ginger. "Rose tried to do that once. To change history. When you change established events, at least in the rea--where I'm from," he amended, having to remind himself that Tonks' world was very real to her, even if it wasn't to him. "That's when Reapers show up, and everything goes to pot."

"They feed on time distortion," he explained. "And there's no stopping them. I've been down the gullet of one of those things, Tonks. I don't want that to happen to your world." The Doctor sighed and shook his head. "I'd love nothing more than to tell you that you can change things, and everything will come out rosy. I would love that. And maybe the rules are different where you're from. But would you risk that? Everyone you know and love...Every place that was ever important to you...All destroyed."

Tonks arched an eyebrow. She'd used time turners in the course of her job, of course, and knew to take the proper precautions. But she was also a very practical person, and a good judge of character. And she could tell that the idea genuinely worried him. So she wasn't quite so willing to just shrug his words off as being overly alarmist. "Oh. Uh... Reapers?"

She listened to his explanation, found it still a little confusing, but also didn't think it sounded like a lot of fun. "Right, then. So I just go back and hope everything works out." She sighed softly, but then brightened. She never was one to stay upset for long, not in general.

"So, what do you make of this place?" Her gesture, which nearly had her smacking him completely by accident, encompassed the whole Underground, not just TARDIS. "Bloody bizarre place, yeah?"

The Doctor felt bad telling her that. Telling her that she was better off dying. That everyone would be a lot happier, not because she was dead, but because of what her death ensured. "Reapers or no Reapers, I think that's all we can do, no matter the situation," he said with a half smile, looking at her out of the corner of his eye.

He only just dodged her flailing hand and laughed a little, shaking his head. "A bit bizarre, yeah," he agreed. "Though really, hardly the worst I've ever seen. Of all the places to get stuck, this isn't a completely horrible one. Trust me," he chuckled. "This is paradise, comparatively."

Leaning forward with his elbows on his knees and his hands hanging free between them, the Doctor let out a breath of air that puffed out his cheeks, and then smiled. "So is there anyone else from your world here?" he asked, tilting his head to grin at her.

The depressing subject, she was more than happy to drop. The future would take care of itself, and if she died, she died. She'd always known it was a likely thing to happen, being in a very dangerous line of work. So she just smiled at the Doctor and nodded, signifying agreement with him, but not going into it further than she already had.

That smile turned slightly apologetic as she nearly clobbered him. "Sorry. I do that a lot." She thought a bit, and then grinned. "I guess you already knew that, though." She tilted her bright head to the side, and then shrugged. "I've been one other place, and it was... I think it was nicer than this, really."

At his question, though, her thoughts turned away from Mirage. "Yeah, I saw Hermione, and..." Her fingers rested on her stomach briefly, and she grimaced. "Severus Snape is here too, the great greasy git." But it was said without a lot of venom, because, quite frankly, he had been the one to give her the good news about her baby. "What about you?"

"I might have heard a rumor," the Doctor grinned, winking at her. Tonks' clumsy nature was legendary, and probably one of the reasons why he liked her so much. He wasn't clumsy, per say, but his accidents tended to go in a quite comical direction most of the time. "What was that place like?" he asked, interested.

The Doctor's face lit up at the thought of other characters from the books being on this planet as well, particularly Hermione, who he'd always felt a sort of kinship with. "Where are they all pulled from in canon?" he asked, and then blinked. "I mean, in your history..." Mostly he just wondered if Snape had gotten his head bitten off by Nagini yet.

"I've got two friends here," he nodded. "Jack Harkness - watch out for him, he'll be into your knickers before you know what hit you," he laughed. "And Rose Tyler. She's human, but still very lovely," he shrugged. "Well, so's Jack, if we're being technical. Human. Not lovely. He's a right pain in the ass." But it was clear from his tone that he held them both in great affection, regardless of how he complained.

Tonks thought about that for awhile with a slight frown on her face. "It was beautiful. About once a week, more or less, it changed. One week, it would be a muggle ski resort, and then the next, a place by the sea. But everything was really pretty." She frowned more. "I don't like being kidnapped, though." Of course, if she hadn't been, she never would have met Marcus.

At his comment, she turned her attention back to him, and blinked. "Cannon? One of those muggle machines that spit out those huge balls?" She didn't get the reference at all. But he clarified, and she smiled. "Hermione was after the war, I think? I dunno about Snape, though he didn't know anything about how the war turned out." She thought about that, then laughed. "I should ask him!" She'd always been brave, after all.

"Jack sounds lovely, really." She laughed softly. "It's good to have people from your own world, isn't it? I mean, it helps me know I'm not a complete nutter..." Although, she still could be, but she had a trouble thinking of a hallucination in which she would imagine Snape around.

"Yeah, me neither," the Doctor snorted, without any humor to it. "If I could just get her working again, it wouldn't be so bad being here. It'd be brilliant, really. But being stuck, it's terrible."

The Doctor smacked himself in the face. "Sorry...No. It's what people in my world call the uh..." He screwed up his face, trying to figure out how to explain it. "The uh...rules, laws, happenings, that kind of thing, of a fictional world. Because where I'm from, you lot are fiction, though I have a couple of theories on that so don't worry about it. Basically it's like...the fairy tales that you grew up with? You know how the worlds and characters weren't real, and they could do things you couldn't? You're one of those impossible characters. Sort of." Yeah, that started off better than it finished.

"Really good," the Doctor agreed, standing up and stretching. "Which reminds me, I need to find Rose before she starts remodeling," he said, looking down the long hall that seemed to have no end at one point in the TARDIS with a worried glance.

Tonks nodded. "It would be brilliant if you could." Upsetting, in a way that she was only just allowing herself to acknowledge, but a good thing. Mostly. Sort of. Maybe. Okay, she was still a little confused about the whole thing, and what she wanted.

One eyebrow arched eloquently as he explained, and by the end, she was laughing to herself again. "I've decided I like you." She announced this with the air of someone conferring a great favor. "You make me laugh." His awkward stumbling about the whole fictional characters topic was interesting, but not much else. As far as she could tell, she was real. That was enough for her. No existential crisis from her.

She rose to her feet too, and wandered to the door. "I think I'm going to brave outside again. I'm starving. Uh..." She looked at the door curiously. "How does it open?"

The Doctor laughed. "Well good. I like being liked. And it goes without saying, Tonks, that I like you," he said with a little nod. That was an understatement. She was wonderful. Not to mention the fact that she seemed to take everything so well. Most people would have been having a fit by now. But no, not Tonks. She was a rock.

Going to the door, the Doctor looked serious. "It's highly complicated," he said with an emphatic nod. Then he hooked his finger in the handle of the door and pulled it open. "The Hordes of Genghis Khan couldn't get in - and they've tried, but getting out...easy," he grinned.

Then he pleasantly sent her on her way, waving. "Come see me again!" he called as he watched her disappear into the rain, and then shut the door. "Tonks. Tonks! Hey Rose!!" he hollered, setting off at a dead run.
