WHO: The Doctor and Tonks
WHEN: Day Five, midmorning
WHAT: Meeting/Canon confetti
WHERE: Near the dorms
RATING: PG
STATUS: Complete

The Doctor was being...well, the Doctor. Very curious, a little stupid, and generally looking completely mad.

Because, well, he was standing outside, in the pouring rain, with his head tipped back and his mouth open wide. It was fairly obvious that he'd been out there a while, as his trench coat and suit were sopping wet, and his once white trainers were the general colour of mud splatters. Like the child at heart he was, he looked like he was having a blast, though he actually was doing something important. The Doctor knew that if he could just figure out what that one hint of a taste was, he could figure out whereabouts in the universe they were, and hopefully, use that to figure out a way to get the hell off this rock.

Seeing something out of the corner of his eye, the Doctor righted his head and looked in that direction, his tongue hanging out and a confused expression on his face. Who in their right mind would be out in this weather?

Well, aside from him, anyway.

Tonks gasped once more as the lights flickered, but despite her initial surprise, she was delighted. "She does?" She sounded a little like a bookworm who had just won a spelling competition or something, completely thrilled by the fact that a spaceship liked her. "I've never been liked by a spaceship before..."

She turned her dark gaze to him, smiling, but that expression turned to a frown as she saw the look on his face. "Uh... is something wrong, Doctor?" She hurried on. "It's just that you seem a little... you know, worried or something."

The bright-haired witch watched him, concerned, as he stammered through his reply. She shook her head and frowned a little. "This is about Remus, isn't it? You said you'd seen movies and read books or something." Her voice was very quiet, and she laid her hand on her stomach once more.

The Doctor grinned. "And she doesn't like just anyone either. My friend Jack, she went to the end of the universe trying to shake him off, once upon a time."

This, right there, was why the Doctor needed a companion. He needed someone to smack him around the gourd when he was being a moron. Like now.

"No, no it's fine," he said, waving her off as best as he could, not meeting her eye. "It's just...you being here might change things. Might not. Never know," he shrugged, talking a little more erratically than usual. "You can never be sure. And given that you might be able to go back someday...I...I can't tell you."

Tonks grinned. Maybe it was a bit shallow of her, but she liked being told that she was liked. Probably a natural human response, really. But being liked by a spaceship had to be something special, she decided. Especially if it, or rather she, didn't like everyone.

The witch blinked at the Doctor as he stammered and stumbled some more. Finally, she shook her head, smiled, and patted him in a friendly way on the shoulder. "It's okay, luv, just relax."

She was pretty sure she knew what was bothering him, at least partially. So she took the bit between her teeth and did some stumbling and rambling of her own. "If you're worried and Remus, or me, it's okay. I know that I'm supposed to die." She'd been told back on Mirage, by someone from her own world, as well as multiple people here. Really, people seemed to be almost tripping over themselves trying to tell her these things. "I know, and I still think I should go back. What if me not being there makes my side lose?"
