Day Five: Your coffee, sir
Who: Ianto and Jack
When: Day Five, early morning
What: Ianto brings coffee. Because that is what he does.
Where: Jack's room
Rating: PG so far...
Status: Complete

Ianto had thought he'd seen Jack at the ball, through the swirl crowds of laughing or angry or imperturbable costumed revellers. But he couldn't find him in the end, and he'd refrained from knocking on Jack's door. It was too late at night, and he didn't want to give the wrong impression.

Pfft. Impression. Ianto didn't have a clue what kind of impression he wanted to give. On the one hand, he wanted to grab Jack by his greatcoat lapels and snog him senseless. On the other.... well, dammit, he wanted to be courted. Or at least bought dinner. While he didn't disbelieve Jack's story that they came from different points in their timeline, he also didn't want to skip all the stuff that he had clearly missed, even if Jack had indeed lived through it. Ianto wanted more than that.

Some habits were hard to break, though, and so at 8 a.m. sharp he rapped upon Jack's dormitory door, steaming mug of coffee in hand to present to his captain.

Jack had indeed been at the ball and, upon the rise of the next day was pleased to find that the leather trousers were still hanging in his closet. No matter what the Doctor said, he was going to keep those trousers. And, for the record, he did not get into trouble when he wore them... usually. Then again when trouble seemed to follow Captain Jack, he could have been wearing a tutu and bunny slippers and still managed to get into trouble.

He wasn't asleep (Jack never really slept), but the knock at his door took him by surprise. No one really knew where he was staying outside of Ianto and Rose. Jack wasn't sure if Ianto would swing by in the morning, which left Rose. He glanced at his watch, assuming that if it was eight in the morning, it most likely wasn't her.

So, that left the goblins. Heading to the door in only his trousers, braces hanging at his sides as if he'd just rolled out of bed, Jack opened the door, staring down at where a goblin head should be. "Look, if you want the leather trousers back, you'll have to pry them out of my cold, dead hands -- at which good luck with that..." Jack trailed off, realising he was staring at shoes. Lifting his head, Jack smiled slowly at Ianto. "Well, if you want the trousers, I'm sure that can be arranged."

Thankfully, Ianto was mostly good at not blushing when Jack's subtle-as-a-frypan-to-the-side-of-the-head innuendo made an appearance.

"Your coffee, sir," he said, not reacting at all. He held out the mug and offered a half smile along with it. "It's not, perhaps, as good as usual. I didn't have the best of materials to work with. You'll have to give me your opinion, which I know you're terrible at doing."

Taking the steaming cup in his hands, Jack lowered his face just enough to get a sniff of the aroma. So far so good. So far Jack had gone four days without so much as a decent cup of coffee (or coffee of any sort for that matter) and he was just starting to enter the stages of withdrawl. Right now it coffee flavoured water would be a vast improvement.

"Terrible," Jack agreed, taking a sip at last. No, not the strength he was used to, but definitely better than nothing. And, at the present, beggars couldn't be choosers. "What, you think I'm going to dash all of your hopes when I haven't had a cup of coffee since I got here?" Jack took another sip, leaning against the door frame. "It's not bad. Nowhere near normal strength, of course. But I suppose it'll do. If I have to."

No, Jack was never an ass. Ever.

Ianto did not, of course, bother to hide his eyeroll. "Glad to be of service, your highness," he said. "Until we figure out why exactly we're here and how we can get back it'll have to do."

He glance right and left, as though worried that another host of goblins would come tramping down the hall to drag him off to another ridiculous masquerade. "Are we being listened to?" he asked, lowering his voice. "Is it safe to talk without interference here, or is the entire city wired? Without any sort of normal surveillance gear, it's difficult to tell." He did not point out that if he were still with Torchwood One, he'd likely have awakened with surveillance gear in his satchel. A few months ago he would have, but he'd grown to be more a part of the Torchwood Three team.

"That's Captain," Jack shot back with a smirk. "And if that's 'highness', I'm going to assume you meant King and not Queen or Princess."

Jack frowned, watching Ianto look around as if he was expecting something to jump out of the woodwork within the next few minutes. Well, around here, that wasn't out of the realm of possibilities but at least with the masque, Jareth had informed them of their attendance ahead of time. So, Jack supposed, if things were going to continue to happen, they'd be apprised of when they'd be pulled for things and events. "Don't know to be honest," Jack replied. "I haven't gotten readings but it's hard to say if this place is too primitive to even be picked up." Jack rubbed his chin thoughtfully with his free hand. "Or the guy's omnipotent, which, really, just isn't fair. Blonds don't have the right to be omnipotent."

"Is he a Time Lord, do you think?" Ianto asked. He was used to Jack either having all the answers or pretending while Ianto himself had them. "I don't recognize him from any of the archival data I've gone through, nor does he ring any bells with the folklore with which I'm familiar." Which was a lot. "I had hoped to request an audience with him last night, but that didn't happen."

He frowned and gestured impatiently at the door. "Are you going to invite me in or not? We need to discuss strategy, Jack. I need to know what you know so that I can get to work contacting the others. We have to extract ourselves as soon as possible."

The question took Jack off guard and he froze, mind whirling through events of the past year. The last Time Lord who ended up being not the last one. "No," Jack said simply. "The Doctor is the last Time Lord and if he was, I'd think the Doctor would have said if he was," Jack replied. "I don't know who the bloke is. Other than I think he's picked a few different time periods to make his home."

Stepping aside, Jack silently invited Ianto in. "Only if you're sure I'm not going to take advantage of you." With a wink, Jack headed back into the bedroom, returning with a shirt, buttoning it up half way and slipping the braces up over he shoulders, rejoining Ianto. "All I know is this Jareth bloke fancies himself a king and has brought all of us here but for what purpose? Ya got me." Jack settled himself on the arm of a chair, taking up his cup of coffee once more, voice taking on that typical 'explanation' tone. "Extraction?" Jack gestured out the window. "Is running the Labyrinth. The Doctor's mentioned attempting it. Something tells me that the only way we're getting out of here is if we run it." Not exactly a comforting thought.

Ianto didn't hide his amused expression at Jack's Britishism. It was only to be expected, for the sheer number of decades Jack had spent on this side of the Atlantic. Well, on the side of the Atlantic where they used to be. He had no idea where the Atlantic was in comparison to themselves at just this moment.

"Any idea where we are geographically? This isn't the magical place that everyone seems to think it is. Is it?" He didn't know what he wanted the answer to be. "This place reminds me of those... faerie things, or whatever they actually were. It feels like there's much more beneath the surface than we're seeing just now, and whatever is there is rather a sight darker than we're being led to believe."

He stepped in, following Jack's every gesture with a careful gaze. Snorting at the suggestion of running the Labyrinth, he muttered, "Oh yes, that's brilliant. 'Hello, I'm a king and I will let my kidnap victims go if they wander through a bloody maze. I am benevolent like that.' This isn't bloody Alice in Wonderland or Victorian England. Why aren't you working on getting in contact with Tosh or Gwen?"

There may have been Britishisms, but Jack still didn't know a lick of Welsh after living there for a good century. He did, however, maintain that he would be fluent in Welsh before Ianto introduced him to family -- consequently, Jack figured he was safe for a while.

"None," Jack said. "It's almost as if the place is completely out of time and space. You know as well as I the number of universes that exist in our own plane, not to mention the sheer number of alternate dimensions." For the second time in the space of twenty minutes, Jack froze and didn't bother to hide the uncomfortable expression on his face. "I'll say that when I start seeing rose petals." He did and Jack would attempt to hardwire the TARDIS... or something. "Trust me, I don't like it either, Ianto.

"Because it's not possible. Don't you think I've tried?" He pointed to the kitchen table where his earpiece sat abandoned. "Coms aren't working nor is this," he tapped his wrist strap. "At least, not in the communication capacity." Jack smirked. "Besides. Where's your sense of adventure? Chance to walk through the unknown for a chance at freedom?" So maybe Jack was insane in finding such a thing fun.

"For God's sake, Jack, we've been kidnapped by someone with infinitely superior technology, who has lifted out of time and space as you say without leaving so much as a trace behind. Where's my sense of adventure?" He was staring at Jack like he'd grown two heads. Wouldn't be the first time Ianto had seen something like that. "My sense of adventure is back at the Hub, where it and you and I all belong. I thought you'd be halfway to figuring out how to open the Rift and get us the hell home by now, not cavorting about in leather trousers, enjoying yourself so damned much. Enjoy your coffee."

He turned on his heel, muttering darkly in Welsh about senses of adventure and where certain captains could shove them.

The reason was, plain and simple because the Doctor was here. And not only that, but Jack had the Doctor plus Rose and Ianto. So, no, he wasn't inclined to findthe way home anytime soon. And, really, all that was left was Gwen. If Ianto didn't know anything about them being together, then it was a fair bet that he didn't know how small their team had become. Flicking open his wrist strap, Jack punched the buttons on the Manipulator and projected the results. "Do tell me how I'm supposed to be opening the Rift when there isn't a Rift around to open."

Jack growled softly under his breath, setting the precious coffee aside and jumped up crossing to Ianto before he could leave. He caught Ianto by the elbow, forcibly keeping him in the room. "I enjoy myself because, at the present, doing anything else would make me miserable. And when I'm miserable, I get cranky. And we all know what happens when I get cranky." Jack tugged gently on the suit jacket. "Now, would you come back inside?"

Life would be so much easier if Ianto's libido didn't respond so damned well to Jack's, well, everything. The touch on his arm, the growl in Jack's voice, the gentle tugging on his suit jacket. The subtle 51st century pheromones in the air. Ianto closed his eyes and counted to ten. Or tried to-- he only got to three before turning around.

"I would have thought you'd have done more here," he said as evenly as possible. "That's all. I'd have expected to to jury rig a coffee maker to take us home or something. I'm used to you having the situation in hand. It's rather odd to find you don't. It's odd to think that this blond would-be king has bested you." A gauntlet being thrown down? Quite possibly. Ianto wasn't above a bit of egging on.

It wasn't that Jack tried -- hell, who was he kidding? He used his everything to his best advantage even when he wasn't trying to. He waited for Ianto to turn around, counting the breaths it took before the other man did so.

"What do you want me to do, Ianto?" Jack asked, taking a step towards him. "I've been shanghaied here, this is the fifth day and this is the first I've gotten anything by way of a cup of coffee." He crossed his arms in front of his chest, letting go of Ianto as soon as he was sure the other man wasn't leaving. "Besides, I've been told to leave my hands off the coffee machine. Ergo, you're the one who was supposed to figure out a way to get your captain caffienated."

The growl was back as Jack recognised the taunting tone in Ianto's voice. "Why do you think I'm planning on giving the Labyrinth a go?" Jack asked. "Best him at his own game."

Ignoring the coffee machine quip, Ianto squinted at Jack. "Mmmmmm. And when might you attempt this? Before or after another ball? Before or after flaunting that--" he flicked his eyes downward referring either to Jack's pelvis or his ass-- "in leather?" Ianto was conflicted. He was used to in-charge Jack, used to a Jack that had a plan no matter how brilliant or foolish Ianto thought it was. a thought occurred to him.

"You're not leaving things out, are you?" It wouldn't be the first time that Jack had kept things too close to his chest, to the possible detriment of the team. "If there's more to this, tell me." He folded his arms and did his best to look reasonable.

Jack shrugged. "Hard to say. The Doctor mentioned something about it," Jack replied then paused. He still remembered Ianto's reaction to the man, (and Jack wouldn't call it jealousy even if it was exactly that) and it was hard for Jack to contain his excitement. It was the Doctor after all and at the end of the day, Jack would always run to the man's side. Jack wasn't the only one who had his own gravitational pull, apparently. "Well, could be before," Jack mused. "If you're that upset you missed the sight I could go put them on again for you. You could tell me what you think," Jack teased.

"What's there to leave out?" Jack asked. "And what is there possibly to gain by leaving anything out? We're in a Labyrinth. Apparently something happens if we attempt it and solve it." Jack pointed to his wrist strap. "This thing is telling me very little and the Doctor, last I knew, didn't know much either.

"I might be more interested in your leather trousers if you were wearing them at the Hub and not in an imaginary dormitory in a magical land full of goblins and possible lunatic asylum escapees." Which was not to say that he didn't want to see them at all, nor that his gaze wasn't lingering rather tellingly on Jack's torso, and then his Adam's apple, and his full lips, before find Jack's eyes again.

Ianto frowned harder at the double-mention of the Doctor. Whatever Jack might think, Ianto had been molded by a cultural distrusted or outright despised the Doctor, and Ianto hadn't seen anything so far to contradict that attitude. In fact, it was the Doctor who had pulled Jack away from them for a year, leaving Gwen (rather capably, Ianto had to admit) in charge and all of them in danger.

"Should have guessed he'd be mixed into this mess somewhere," Ianto muttered. "Anything this mad is probably his doing, or at least exacerbated by his... shenanigans."

Well then. It was very hard for Jack to keep a straight face following that admission, but somehow he managed it, only returning Ianto's once over with a heated gaze of his own, starting from his hips and moving up slowly. Just because Ianto was, in theory, refusing him did not mean that Jack couldn't look his fill. "How do you know if you'd be more interested?" Jack asked. "You've never seen me wear them in either place so it stands to reason then, that, I'd need to put them on so you would know exactly how you felt about them, does it not?"

Or maybe Jack just wanted an excuse to put the trousers on again. One or the other.

"I actually made it here before him," Jack pointed out with a huff. He would forever and always defend the Doctor until his (figurative) dying breath. "So if it's anyone's 'shenanigans', it would be mine and not his."

Jack the Fanboy. It was a role that Ianto rarely saw him in. Still, he hadn't come in here to fight. Really he hadn't. "All right. Fine. Doctor or no Doctor... it doesn't matter."

Really, he was being very reasonable, even if his jaw was clenched tighter than Tosh's ass. Not like that. He shook that mental image free quickly. "Tell me what you know about the Labyrinth." He pulled the King-provided journal out of his jacket, a pen following. "Start from the beginning. Leave nothing out. And I mean that, Jack. Now is not the time for you to decide that your team can't handle the full truth."

He couldn't help it. He looked at the journal, pen poised jauntily above the paper and burst out laughing. Jack wasn't sure if he should have been surprised that Ianto would have taken this so seriously or not -- but it gave the appearance of things being the same in this make-believe land. And still, he laughed aloud, tossing his head back and cackled.

"Come off it, Ianto," Jack said, attempting to push away the journal. "First of all, I don't hide things," he easily lied, "and second of all, there isn't much to know about this place other than we're stuck here, the TARDIS can't leave and there's a King who's controlling things. And, apparently, has great taste in clothing for that matter."

Ianto made several notes, then looked up through his lashes, waiting for more. "Yes, I'd worked most of that out for myself, though I didn't know the TARDIS was both here and not functioning. Tell me more about the King. You've seen him, I take it? I tried to at the Ball but I could only catch glimpses. I ended up having a chat with a serious young man who had only just arrived in this place. I'm afraid I couldn't help him out very much."

Really? Ianto was really going to put him through this? Jack sank into a chair, finishing the last of his coffee and setting the mug aside with a scowl. Jack knew that, under other circumstances he would have been just as interested to figure out what this place was. But after everything, there was a part of him that was glad for the respite away from things. And, with Ianto, the Doctor and Rose all here? Jack was loath to leave for a time.

"Should I start with his attributes? He looks great in leather," Jack replied, licking his lips. Well, maybe not the best thing to say. "His name's Jareth. And this is all his. This and," Jack pointed out the window. "The Labyrinth. They gave us the room and the journal. And that's it, Jones."

Ianto couldn't help but small laugh that escaped him. "Does he also enjoy pina coladas and getting caught in the rain?" He made a couple of notes, and then snerked under his breath. "Parents today, naming their children Skyler and Madison and Calvyn with a y. What kind of a name is Jareth? Not bloody Welsh, is it?"

He followed Jack's finger and peered out the window. "And what do you know about the Labyrinth? What did you mean by 'running' it, and why does doing so grant us our freedom?" There was a reason that Ianto was the resident archivist.

At that, Jack looked positively lost. "How would I know if he likes pina coladas?" Jack asked, frowning slightly. It wasn't his fault that his knowledge of music past about 1950 was surprisingly sparse. "Though, wouldn't mind seeing him after getting caught in the rain for the record." Jack paused for a moment, letting his mind wander quite far from the task at hand. Right then. The Labyrinth.

Jack harrumphed. Loudly. "What do you think I mean?" Jack asked, rolling his eyes. "You run it. Try to figure it out and hope to god there isn't a Minotaur waiting for us at the end of it."

Ianto smiled affectionately at Jack at that. He could be irritatingly cute, even when he wasn't intending to be. "Remind me to instigate Karaoke Night in Bedlam another time," he said.

The harrumph was another of Ianto's favourite things about Jack. And the bravado. He made a tick in his journal and then placed it on the desk. Stepping closer to Jack, he looked him directly in the eye. "Could be worse," He said, deadpan serious. "Could be a Weevil in the centre instead. Or Rhys."

All Jack could do was grin. "With your voice?" Jack licked his lips, already imagining it. "You will be singing 'Ghost Riders in the Sky'. It will show off those Welsh vowels of yours to absolute perfection."

At least the journal had been set aside. Jack breathed a sigh of relief, even if this was most likely only a momentary distraction. "A Minotaur could be as hungry as Rhys, or so Andy says," Jack said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Just so long as there isn't a Dalek in the centre? I'll be a happy man." Jack's gaze turned towards the window. "The Doctor says he wants to try it at some point, perhaps soon. If he goes... Rose'll go." The question hung silent in the air as Jack turned back to look at Ianto. Would you come if I went? Jack: between a rock and a hard place.

Ianto stared at Jack. He did not know where the man's insanity sprung from sometimes. "If that's the case, we'll get you some insipid boy band song for you to sing." He arched a brow and ran his fingers along Jack's temple. "You certainly have the hair for it."

He let his hand drop but stood close as Jack spoke. "Who is Rose?" he asked, cocking his head to the side. There was an unspoken question on his lips too: Would you choose to run off with the Doctor and abandon me again, or would you finally choose me?

Jack was perfectly sane, thank you very much. If one could be considered sane when throwing himself in front of danger at every turn and living for well over two thousand years that is. "Boy band?" Jack asked, lifting an eyebrow. "Beatles wouldn't be too bad," he reasoned. "Though I refuse to sing anything by the Monkeys." Jack, of course, had no way of knowing the true meaning of the 'boy band' phrase. One of these days he'd familiarise himself with pop culture. Eventually. Still, if it meant that Ianto would run his hands through his hair? Jack wasn't going to complain.

"Why, jealous?" Jack asked, curiosity getting the better of him. "She's one of the Doctor's companions. Actually..." Well, no harm in letting this piece of information out, was there? "She's the one who made me like this." Jack heard the question, he, however, chose to ignore its existence.

See, it was moments like this that made Ianto want to shag Jack. Hard. "Yes, the Monkees are just about as hip as the Partridge Family these days," he opined. "Though you strike me as a lost Osmond brother more than anything. Do you think we can get you to sing Puppy Love?"

His eyes narrowed. "No," he said coldly, "I'm not jealous. I'm conditioned, at this point, to be as far from jealous as possible. We all know that we're nothing to you the moment your precious Doctor arrives, don't we? I don't exactly see you throwing everything aside for Gwen or me." But his ire hit a brick wall. "What do you mean she made you like this? She's the one who took away your ability to die? Or rather, to stay dead, you stubborn git?"

And it was Jack who was wondering why Ianto was refusing that desire to shag. Jack blinked once, then twice at Ianto. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were speaking in tongues and an exorcism should be ordered," Jack replied, shaking his head. "Lost Osmond brother?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. "And why on earth would anyone want to sing about Puppy Love? The real thing is that much better."

Jack's own anger was beginning to get the best of him. "I came back for you," Jack replied, crossing his arms in front of his chest, eyes narrowed ever so slightly. "Because the Doctor did ask me to stay, and I turned him down because I wanted to come back to you. How many damn times do I have to tell you? Yes, I'll always run to the Doctor's aid, but I still, at the end of the day, come back to you lot." Jack gritted his jaw, hands clenching into fists, though hidden by his arms. "Stubborn because I won't stay dead? Do you really wish that I were dead, Ianto?" Jack asked, hands falling to his sides as he stepped towards Ianto. He reached up, cupping Ianto's chin in between his thumb and forefinger and looked down at him, as if daring Ianto to say 'yes'.

"You have to remember," Ianto said, proud that his deep voice was staying even even as Jack cupped his face, dare Ianto say it, lovingly. "You have to remember that... if what you say about our differing timelines is true-- Jack, you only just returned. I've barely seen you once in a year. You didn't so much as leave a note, for God's sake."

All right, so his arms were snaking around Jack's perfectly trim waist. What of it? Just because he was stepping closer to Jack did not mean all-- or anything-- was forgiven.

A simple fact that was frustrating Jack to no end. Why on earth were they from two different time periods, out side of some cruel joke? "I couldn't. There wasn't time, Ianto," Jack said, shaking his head ever so slightly. He didn't move his hand away, not when Ianto was stepping in closer and it took all of Jack's self-control to keep from smiling when those arms slid around his waist.

"I had been waiting over a hundred years for him to show up. And, knowing the Doctor as I do, they wouldn't have stayed long. The TARDIS refueled on the Rift and I had to. God knew how many more years I'd would have had to wait."

"Still," Ianto muttered. "A note would have been the gentlemanly thing to do." And then he surprised the hell out of himself by rest his cheek against Jack's collarbone and breathing in the warm, masculine scent of his neck. He half-closed his eyes and took just a moment to bask in the closeness that he had been craving.

"We assumed you were dead, Jack," he said. "First Lisa, then you. You're just bloody lucky that Gwen is as... Gwennish as she is. She ran things well, and managed to keep Owen from fucking things up horribly."

"If there would h ave been time, I would have," Jack said after a pause. He looked at Ianto, almost in surprise, then curled his arms around the other man to hold him close. So much for all that anger and everything else. Ianto may have sworn there had to be 'wooing' involved, but his actions were contrary to his words. "As it was, I barely managed to make it. Trust me, holding onto a police box as it flies through space to the end of the universe is not my idea of a good time."

Ianto was the only one in the world (well, outside of the Doctor or Rose) who could chastise him in such a manner that Jack actually felt guilty. He leaned his cheek against Ianto's temple, trying hard to keep from chuckling. "Keeping Owen from fucking up? That must have been a full-time job," Jack said with a snort. "I'm surprised you didn't have to hire on an 'Owen-Keeper' just to keep him out of trouble." The smile faded from Jack's face, knowing the differences in their timelines. And what Ianto didn't know.

he closeness wasn't something they'd experienced before, at least as far as Ianto was concerned. This embrace spoke of an imtimacy that they hadn't yet come to in Ianto's timeline. Yes, there had been snoggage, and yes, there had been some rather delicious groping here and there, but nothing further. Nothing more than the purely physical. He'd had a lot of time to think about Jack in the year that Jack had disappeared. Not that he wanted to let any of that slip just yet.

"We do have an Owen-Keeper," Ianto quipped, lifting his head off Jack's shoulder. "Her name is Tosh." Any moment now he'd step back out of the circle of Jack's arms. Aaaany moment.

For Jack, however, the closeness was something Jack had come to crave. It wasn't often that Jack found himself in a steady relationship (though, steady for him meant a continuous partner for more than two months, even if there were other bits on the side) but with Ianto, it had been easy. The physical had melted away to something else, but still one helluva physical relationship as well which was beyond frustrating for Jack. He didn't woo a species, outside of a smile, wink and an outstretched hand.

He swallowed hard at the mention of Tosh (her death still as raw on his nerves as Owen's) and hoped the expression wasn't too evident on his face. "Right. But if she was doing that, how did she have time to monitor things?" Jack asked. Once more, Jack's hand cupped Ianto's jaw, resting against his neck. He'd refrain from kissing him this time. Maybe.

Mmmmmmmmwantnowyesplease. Sometimes Ianto hated how Jack could make his higher brain functioning shut down and-- Aw, fuck it. He surged up the small distance and pressed his lips hard against Jack's. He held still for just a moment and then pulled back, placing a second, softer kiss on Jack's full lips. And then he stepped back again, and wordlessly turned to leave.

The only thought running through Jack's mind was 'at last'. He pulled Ianto in closer, giving into the kiss and wrapping himself completely around the other man. A kiss initiated by Ianto rather than that awkward snog in the hallway a few days ago. Jack's free hand had moved to the waistband of Ianto's trousers, fingers curling in the cotton of his shirt and about to yank when Ianto stepped back.

Wait. Stepped back!? The proper direction in this case was forward not backwards.

Jack reached out, groping blindly for Ianto's hand. "Where do you think you're going?"

Ianto half-smiled and sidestepped Jack's reach. "I'm willing to accept that what was a few days for me was over a year for you," he said, retreating to the door. "Do you remember how nervous you were when you asked me to dinner? You must have, well, wooed me in your timeline but I've had no such treatment in mine. I'm not just going to fall into bed with you Jack, especially not here when we haven't an inkling what's really going on."

He opened the door and winked at the other man, ignoring the tingle of attraction he always felt when he looked at the good Captain. "You might try asking me out again and seeing where it goes from there. Enjoy the coffee." And he was gone.

Jack blinked once, then twice as Ianto stepped away from Jack. The hell? He was stuck in place, watching Ianto back away towards the door, eyes flicking back and forth between the Welshman and the now abandoned cup of coffee. "Yes, I remember," Jack muttered, almost toeing at the floor uncomfortably. Hell, he was having flashbacks to that night each time Ianto pulled away from them. "If anything that's the time when you cling to those you know," Jack replied. "When you don't know how things should be winding up."

And god that wink. Jack was really supposed to let Ianto go after that? Somehow he managed to not go after Ianto and snog him senseless. "I--" Jack had barely gotten the word out when Ianto had left. Sighing and looking like a wounded puppy, Jack retreated to the coffee cup and his bed, drinking down the last of the dark liquid.

Fucking men.
