Day Five: Your coffee, sir
Who: Ianto and Jack
When: Day Five, early morning
What: Ianto brings coffee. Because that is what he does.
Where: Jack's room
Rating: PG so far...
Status: Complete

Ianto had thought he'd seen Jack at the ball, through the swirl crowds of laughing or angry or imperturbable costumed revellers. But he couldn't find him in the end, and he'd refrained from knocking on Jack's door. It was too late at night, and he didn't want to give the wrong impression.

Pfft. Impression. Ianto didn't have a clue what kind of impression he wanted to give. On the one hand, he wanted to grab Jack by his greatcoat lapels and snog him senseless. On the other.... well, dammit, he wanted to be courted. Or at least bought dinner. While he didn't disbelieve Jack's story that they came from different points in their timeline, he also didn't want to skip all the stuff that he had clearly missed, even if Jack had indeed lived through it. Ianto wanted more than that.

Some habits were hard to break, though, and so at 8 a.m. sharp he rapped upon Jack's dormitory door, steaming mug of coffee in hand to present to his captain.

Well then. It was very hard for Jack to keep a straight face following that admission, but somehow he managed it, only returning Ianto's once over with a heated gaze of his own, starting from his hips and moving up slowly. Just because Ianto was, in theory, refusing him did not mean that Jack couldn't look his fill. "How do you know if you'd be more interested?" Jack asked. "You've never seen me wear them in either place so it stands to reason then, that, I'd need to put them on so you would know exactly how you felt about them, does it not?"

Or maybe Jack just wanted an excuse to put the trousers on again. One or the other.

"I actually made it here before him," Jack pointed out with a huff. He would forever and always defend the Doctor until his (figurative) dying breath. "So if it's anyone's 'shenanigans', it would be mine and not his."

Jack the Fanboy. It was a role that Ianto rarely saw him in. Still, he hadn't come in here to fight. Really he hadn't. "All right. Fine. Doctor or no Doctor... it doesn't matter."

Really, he was being very reasonable, even if his jaw was clenched tighter than Tosh's ass. Not like that. He shook that mental image free quickly. "Tell me what you know about the Labyrinth." He pulled the King-provided journal out of his jacket, a pen following. "Start from the beginning. Leave nothing out. And I mean that, Jack. Now is not the time for you to decide that your team can't handle the full truth."

He couldn't help it. He looked at the journal, pen poised jauntily above the paper and burst out laughing. Jack wasn't sure if he should have been surprised that Ianto would have taken this so seriously or not -- but it gave the appearance of things being the same in this make-believe land. And still, he laughed aloud, tossing his head back and cackled.

"Come off it, Ianto," Jack said, attempting to push away the journal. "First of all, I don't hide things," he easily lied, "and second of all, there isn't much to know about this place other than we're stuck here, the TARDIS can't leave and there's a King who's controlling things. And, apparently, has great taste in clothing for that matter."

Ianto made several notes, then looked up through his lashes, waiting for more. "Yes, I'd worked most of that out for myself, though I didn't know the TARDIS was both here and not functioning. Tell me more about the King. You've seen him, I take it? I tried to at the Ball but I could only catch glimpses. I ended up having a chat with a serious young man who had only just arrived in this place. I'm afraid I couldn't help him out very much."

Really? Ianto was really going to put him through this? Jack sank into a chair, finishing the last of his coffee and setting the mug aside with a scowl. Jack knew that, under other circumstances he would have been just as interested to figure out what this place was. But after everything, there was a part of him that was glad for the respite away from things. And, with Ianto, the Doctor and Rose all here? Jack was loath to leave for a time.

"Should I start with his attributes? He looks great in leather," Jack replied, licking his lips. Well, maybe not the best thing to say. "His name's Jareth. And this is all his. This and," Jack pointed out the window. "The Labyrinth. They gave us the room and the journal. And that's it, Jones."
