The First Official Day As Queen
It was the sunlight streaming through the windows that woke her, along with the sound of birds chittering away on the roof. Normal sounds. Proof of life sounds. Sounds she still marveled at after a hundred years of missing them. Without any sounds of activity coming from downstairs, Zelda was content to remain in bed, eyes closed against the red warmth of the sunbeams on her lids, listening to the birds.

She wasn't going to stay there all day, but just a few more minutes of enjoying the peace. Not quiet, but peace.

After a little bit longer, Zelda reluctantly pushed back the blankets and stood, stretching as she yawned. She looked over the railing down into the common room, and immediately saw what looked to be a note.

Written on napery. Oops. They'd need to get more paper soon.

"Link?" she called out, listening for him. With no response, she made her way downstairs and read the scribbling. "Hmm. All right." She frowned a bit at the part about paying Pruce back. They'd need to figure out how to put rupees in her own pocket if she were to do things like this on a semi-regular basis. Or maybe just make and use royal vouchers as they did in the old days, and Link would go around settling the accounts when the day was over.

She looked out the window toward the bridge, and there was no sign of anyone, not yet. The men must still be tending to their own business, which was fine by her. She needed time to get dressed anyway.

Zelda went back up the stairs and opened the trunk, looking at the meager choices she had. All pants and blouses, mostly identical save for color variations. She put on dark blue pants and a white and blue blouse to go with her new circlet, then sat on the bed to brush out her hair, pulling strands from the front toward the back into a ponytail and braiding it down her back, leaving most of her hair free. Once done, she donned the circlet, then her boots.

Not knowing what time people would show up to work on the bridge, and being hungry at that moment, Zelda tucked the napery note in her pocket then left the house, carefully stepping over the loose planks, and made her way to Pruce's shop.

"Good morning," she said as she entered. "Link's apparently left me to my own devices today, and left me this." She pulled the napery out of her pocket and handed it to Pruce, smiling. "So what's on the menu?"

"What? Going to the castle? Hm. Not until I get back from Zora's Domain, at the very least. I owe them a visit," Zelda said.

It was a combination of reaching a convenient rest point and Link's stomach informing him that it was coming up on noon and he'd never had breakfast that had Link taking a break at the Dueling Peaks Stable, right as the sun was hitting its zenith.

The stables provided a very small cooking station for guests, one that was never clean enough for Link's tastes, but at least they kept it clean enough that nobody got sick from cooking there, and Link had laid claim to it pretty much the second he got there.

He scowled at the hastily prepared food on the worn old dish that any good traveler kept in their pack for having way too much Goron spice- a mistake he'd never make at home, but the cooking stations there at the stables always had lingering flavors from previous guests' meals, and overspicing his food was the only way to mask those flavors that always seemed to clash with what he wanted. Having a house to go to every day had spoiled him, and if it wasn't for the fact that his days as wandering swordsman were over, he'd be annoyed with himself for it.

It took some powerfully bad food to make him not want to eat at all, but overspiced food was still sometimes a struggle to get through, so in the name of having something other than the subpar food on his plate to focus on, he glanced around to ensure that nobody was in hearing range, then looked at the Sword, propped against the seat next to him.

"I don't suppose it's in your ability to contact Zelda from here, is it?" he asked her, keeping his voice down- out of earshot or not, he didn't need people wondering too much about the guy sitting there and talking to seemingly nobody.

It is, Master Link, the Sword informed him. I can make telepathic contact with whomever is needed, though the queen's awakened power makes it easier to communicate with her than it would someone whose mind was not open to the spirit realm. What message would you like me to pass along?

Link gave another look around, before turning back to his food. "Ask her if there's anything she needs me to look for while I'm out. The less often I have to run out, the less time she has to spend looking for things to do back home."

And the less often you have to worry about her safety, I assume? the Sword asked, and she didn't have to sound amused.

"Just ask her," he grumbled, giving the Sword a baleful glare.

Of course, she replied, then cast her thought out on a narrow thread to the queen. I apologize if my voice is alarming, Your Majesty, but Master Link has requested I inquire if there is anything you wish for him to find for you before he returns.

Zelda startled a bit and looked around, then thought to herself, wondering if mere thought was sufficient. I'm still looking for bound blank books, but those aren't a critical need at the moment. If he's wanting to come home though, he's welcome to do so.

Ivee was about to say something- something that was immediately gone from her mind when the queen abruptly startled at something and looked around for... what?

After exchanging a look with her father, she raised an eyebrow at the queen. "Are you okay?"

The Sword could 'hear' through the queen's thoughts that her attention was about to be pulled away momentarily, so she relayed the queen's answer to Link while she waited on the queen.

She says that she is looking for bound blank books, though they are not critical. You are welcome to return home, she told Link, closed to the open connection with the queen.

Link stared at the Sword for a second, chewing silently while he tried to translate 'bound blank books' into something that made sense to his somewhat distracted brain.

"Oh, journals?" He scowled at a bite of mushrooms skewed on the end of his fork. "I can hop back to Tarrey Town and ask Dyson. He gets all that paper from somewhere." Ugh. Down the hatch with that mediocre food. "Anything else? Pictures, information, anything? She was wanting to dye clothes today, right? I can run out to Gerudo Town, she needs something to wear there that won't make my identity too easy to guess, I can pick up something there."

I will ask her momentarily, the Sword told him. I'm afraid I startled her, and she is in Pruce and Ivee's company. She is being asked about her reaction.
