On the housing situation
The potluck had ended late evening, people starting to get hungry again, and everyone receiving the reassurance that the queen and Link would be around for further questions the next day- even right there where Uma sits, promise promise. So dishes were gathered up, tables and chairs were put away, and the wash basin was emptied and rinsed out, and then everyone departed to go settle into their own homes for the night, though Kass lingered a bit longer, just long enough to say goodnight and goodbye to the queen and his friend before retiring to the inn.

Link and Zelda both had agreed that the day had been mentally tiring enough that they wanted food in them before they did much of anything else, so after Link had changed out of his uniform and back into a proper tunic and pants, he cooked them a quiet dinner of a meat curry- nothing fancy, nothing with any special properties, just meat and rice and some Goron spice. There wasn't any conversation over dinner, nothing in particular, anyway, and dishes were washed just as quietly, except the occasional question about where things belonged again, once they were dried.

Honestly, nothing was really said after they'd sat back down either, not at first, anyway. Link was going over some decisions in his head, what all needed to be brought up and when. He decided that Zumi could wait until tomorrow evening- she wasn't likely to be in town tomorrow yet, not with how slow they'd have to travel with her condition, and the day was tiring enough, Link didn't want it to end in what was likely to be an exhausting fight. And even if it didn't end in a fight, Zelda was going to be going to bed upset, for one reason or another, and that wasn't the way to end the day, nor was it the way to start the next.

He'd just have to gamble that Zumi and Yammo weren't making better time than he thought.

Well, that thought pushed aside for the moment, at least.

But, the housing thing did need to be talked about, and that one, at least, would hopefully not end up with any sort of argument or hurt feelings. Neither one of them needed that to end their days.

Besides, night was approaching. And it was worse at night. Link didn't want to end up too mentally restless to sleep and go out all night again. He could find things to do, and there was food he could cook that would keep him going without the need for sleep, but even though that stuff kept his body going, his mind could only run so long before it hit a wall.

That's what'd gotten him into trouble with Zumi in the first place. He didn't even want to think what stupidity he'd get into this time.

So he spent several minutes studying the upstairs part of the house, and the roof, trying to at least get an idea of what could be done to the place to make it suitable for two people needing separate bedrooms, assuming it could structurally be done. Might as well have an idea in mind to run past Bolson, before they might be forced to admit defeat and build Zelda her own house.

Well, might as well start the conversation. Symin should've let her know that it was going to happen that evening so at least he wouldn't be popping it out of the blue.

"Symin passed my message to you earlier, right?" he asked, breaking the silence.

Better be sure about that first.

"What if we figured out a way to take the fight to him somehow? Make it on our terms?" She shrugged, waving her free hand in a casual loop. "That's just a crazy brainstorm, I'm not even sure how to pull something like that off."

And don't worry, Link. She was thinking in the general sense. It was a logical assumption, since she knew she had one of the pieces, if Ganon had one, and he was the Chosen Hero, it wasn't terribly difficult to come to the conclusion he likely was in possession of the third piece. But she did mean 'us' as in the 'good guy's side', and she didn't find anything all that remarkably unusual about the notion of Link being in possession of anything regarding the Triforce. Unless he brought it up as something to be concerned about, it wasn't anything she put energy into consideration without reason.

Normal, daily life was not reason. And it was Link's upcoming job to record information regarding the history of the sword and triforce, so that was already delegated into responsible hands. She wasn't going to bring it up.

"Although between you, me, and Bolson's chandelier, unless we stumble over something that would necessitate using the Divine Beasts again and have an extremely high chance of success at putting an end to this nonsense once and for all, I'd rather leave any future battles, regardless of whether we bring them, or he does, to future generations. I'm done."

If Link could read her mind right then, he'd be silently thanking Hylia for that favor, even if She wasn't the one who'd given it. Not that he was looking forward to being the historian, not with this history, but at least it was something he could keep silent about and control who got to know, why, and when, which would probably amount to nobody, there's no good reason they should, and never.

Not unless he found something in those memories to give him reason to think otherwise.

He shook his head. "I can think of all of one idea, and it's such a gigantic chance that it's not one that should ever be taken, unless someone down the line gets in a really lucky position. That's not our fight. Someone else down the line gets to deal with that, if they even think of it."

"Someday you'll have to tell me that one idea, because my curiosity's piqued," Zelda said. "But that's not important right now."

She smiled a bit, looking up at the house. "Now that I know you're fine with having the place changed, I'm impatient to get started. But only in my mind. The rest of me is ready for rest. It's been a stressful day. A good one, though. The circlet was an amazing idea and such a precious gift to Tokk. Thank you for that."

Link smiled. "That actually was made for you," he said. "It was just for Tokk that I gave it to you when I did, rather than here at home."

"I did wonder. After all, it didn't seem quite your style." She gave him a teasing grin. "Earrings, yes, circlet, not so much."

She stretched, then reached behind her, unclasping her necklace before taking off her bracelets, though she left the circlet on. "Could you please put these in the Slate for safekeeping?"

He chuckled taking the jewelry from her and pulling the Slate over to him from where it was sitting on the table. "I was offered earrings, actually," he said, putting the jewelry into the Slate's memory. "But I knew you wouldn't have much left to your name after everything was over, I thought you deserved something nice. It wasn't clothing, but I couldn't exactly guess your size to buy you anything more practical."

Then he set the Slate back where it had been and got up. "I"m not ready for bed yet, but I should probably get some stuff moved before I get too tired to. Go pick out one of those trunks, I'll get it moved up to the loft." He grinned. "I'm a thief, and stole one of the beds from those houses."

Then he motioned to the alcove under the stairs. "Since those come with bedding, I thought I could hang up the extra bedding I was going to use for sleeping on up to curtain off that area, so you have less reason to worry you're going to wake me up if you come downstairs while I'm asleep."

"Thank you, Link," Zelda said. "I'm not quite ready to turn in, I can help however I can with setting things up if you need an extra pair of hands."

She stood and walked over to the storage area, giving the three trunks that were there experimental tugs to test their weight... and therefore whether or not they were filled with contents.

One was definitely something that could be regulated to sitting outside, as old and worn as it were, but two of them were in decent enough shape. She dragged them out -- none were terribly heavy -- and opened them, curious as to what might be inside.

"We can move this one outside by the door for now, it's in poor enough condition well past being used indoors," Zelda said. "There's some old gardening tools in here, it looks like, but I'm not sure if they're any good anymore or if they've been rusted."

She opened the nicer of the two remaining chests. "This is the one I'd like moved upstairs, please," she said as she lifted the lid. There was fabric inside, and she pulled it out. "What is-? Curtains. It looks like Bolson included curtains for the windows, but they weren't hung." She pulled them out and draped them over the back of her chair, emptying out the trunk.

The final one had some dishes inside, or rather, on closer inspection, they were flower vases. She carefully put the curtain fabric in that trunk. "We can shove this into the corner over there by the weapons for now. The curtains look to be decent quality, although I don't like the color. There's a dye shop in town, correct? I'll take them there after the house gets finished up and they can be used in my room. The vases, I don't think we need that many, but other women in town might be interested in them."

She stood straight, bending her back the other way a bit. "That trunk there, the empty one, I'll take that one for my own use. Once we get this one empty, or at least cleared out of the vases, and get the curtains inside washed, I can use this as well if I end up needing it before nicer trunks are ready." She started dragging it over to the wall out of the way.

Link dragged the one for outside over by the door for being messed with later. "You sure you don't want me to get that for you?" he asked, noticing that she was still dragging the not-empty one across the room. "And yeah, there's a dye shop in town, Sayge is good. Weird, but good."

"I got it," she assured him. "And as long as he's good, he can be weird."

She started up the stairs to the bedroom, making sure she was out of Link's way while he managed the empty trunk. "Actually, while you're doing the bedding, if you want to eject the rest of my clothing we picked up in Tarrey Town from the Slate so I can put it away in the trunk while you do that, that would work out. I'll come down if you need a second pair of hands to hold something up while you work."

Zelda paused. "Jewelry can stay in there, though, until we have a better arrangement. I love the circlet, and it's very important to me now for what it symbolizes, but the necklace and bracelets I don't dare take chances with, as old as they are. I watched too many things be ransacked while in the castle, unable to stop it."

Link paused in picking up the empty trunk, then reached over to the table and grabbed the Slate, hooked it on his hip, then took up the trunk again and started up the stairs with it. "I heard that people used to go in there, until the last year, when everything became too dangerous again. I'm shocked I found anything at all left in there."

He set the trunk down at the foot of the bed, which didn't leave a lot of wiggle room for her to walk. He looked at the arrangement, thinking, then at the small bookcase with two drawers that was taking up the wall between the bed and the stairs. "If you can manage tonight with not a lot of room to work with, we can take that bookshelf downstairs tomorrow, put it against the wall under the shield mounts. If we push it into the corner by the washroom door, it shouldn't be where it'll make it a tight squeeze between it and the table. You can put the trunk where it was then."

"That would be fine," Zelda said, studying the layout. "We don't have to get to it first thing either. It's not as though it's stopping me from reaching the bed. If we don't get around to it until after we get back from Zora's Domain, I don't care."

She looked to Link. "Could it possibly be a good idea to delay going to Zora's Domain by another day or two, long enough to get the renovation plans nailed out with Bolson, and maybe have that work done while we're out of town?"

Link had already pulled out the Slate and was scrolling through the inventory rune for her clothes. "I told Dorephan it should be within a week, so he already knows it could be a few days," he said, giving her a reassuring smile. "So that's fine."

He let the Slate materialize her clothing on the bed, rather than letting it get dumped somewhere, or trying to balance it on one arm, then went back to the inventory. "Although speaking of things salvaged from the castle, I did find a couple things of yours."

While the Slate materialized her diary and her research journal onto his free hand, he squinted at her. "And yes, I skimmed a few pages of these, only to see if there was anything legible enough to bother saving them. I got pretty much zip out of what I was able to make out. So don't go getting squirmy about privacy, I didn't read anything." He held the books out to her. "A couple of the pages tore when I was turning them, but I don't think anything still readable was ruined. But you'll want to be careful."

She took it from him, handling the old book with care, her eyes widening. "My research journal!" There was a hint of a delighted squeal in her voice as she spoke. "Oh, that's fine, I think I might have done the same, honestly. I'll have to ask Pruce if he has any journals for sale in his shop that I can copy this down into before it crumbles any more than it already has. I'm sure Purah would love to read it too."

Zelda looked at Link. "It's a bit too late for me to go down now and ask about journals, isn't it?" She was unable to keep the huge grin off her face as she put the hundred year old book on the desk, opening the cover with care. "Thank you, Link! Thank you so much."
