Charlie didn't know why he'd done it. He knew, logically, that he didn't want to talk about marriage for a few more months at least. He wanted to take it slow, to be reasonable. He didn't want to rush it. He would ask her to move in and after they were comfortable he would prop the question.

But tonight he had walked into a jewelry store and, while thinking about buying a sapphire necklace, ended up buying a diamond ring.

A beautiful, modest diamond ring. He was standing on the curb looking at it when he thought he saw Penny's mother. It wasn't her, but he shoved the ring in his cloak anyway. He turned and headed around the corner, into the Leaky Cauldron, through the back alley, and into Diagon Alley. Maybe George could talk some sense into him. He was too distracted to notice when someone bumped into him and when the black velvet box--which was too thick for his pocket-- slipped out from the tight pocket and rolled softly on the brick street.

Charlie walked on towards the shop.

	"He kind of went into a dark place after we lost Fred," Charlie said. "We all did, but you know, they were twins. They were joined at the hip." Audrey nodded a little, her face falling, and she closed her eyes for a moment. She couldn't imagine the pain that the whole Weasley family must have gone through when they lost Fred. She had a bit of pain from when she'd lost her memories, but she'd never lost someone she loved as much as George loved Fred.

"They were in my year at Hogwarts. I barely remember..." She wished she could remember better. She knew she fancied one of them at one point... it was written in a journal she'd found from her school years. But just the last name. Weasley. With a heart.

"But he didn't have girls in his life before... before me?"

	Charlie shrugged. "Not that I know of. I mean, I spent a lot of time in Romania but if Mum knew about it she would have written me." Charlie shrugged. "Oh, darn, I was hoping you'd give me the inside scoop," Audrey teased. "I think your Mum is rather sweet," Audrey said, smiling warmly. Mrs. Weasley always made Audrey feel at home, even though half the time Audrey felt completely out of sorts surrounded by the Weasley clan. And she and Molly Weasley had a lot in common with their cooking and mother-hen-ning tendencies.

	"Yeah, oh, heads up, if you marry George the pressure's gonna be on like... right away." Charlie figured Penny could take the pressure, that was if she married him. Audrey was trying her best not to think about what it would be like to be married to George. Mrs. Weasley as a mother-in-law, all the Weasley Children as brothers and sisters-in-law... she was intimidated by Bill a bit, and especially by Fleur. She liked Charlie and Percy very much... and Harry and Ginny were so sweet. Ron and Hermione, too... sometimes she felt like she was part of the family already. But kids right away?

"Really? I don't think George wants to marry me."

	"Well, I mean... not now." Audrey said, stopping with him, and waving to the little girl with the balloon, following the woman with all the other children. "Moving in together is a big step. 	"It can..." Audrey said, conceding. "But I don't think it will with me and George. I'm not even sure how he feels about... about marrying me." She paused. "We talked a little bit about children. 	Charlie frowned a little but he just listened. She would keep talking if she was comfortable. It sounded like either Audrey had some serious problems or that their relationship had some serious problems, or maybe both. Did George know that she had so many doubts? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Audrey had a lot of doubts about everything. She didn't really feel she deserved any of it. Not after all the horrible things she'd been through. She considered herself to be damaged goods, and sometimes it felt like accepting charity to be with George.

"My brother and sister-in-law can't have any more children. They're happy, and their family is complete, but George says he wants ten kids. Ten. What if I can't give him ten?" She said, lifting her hands to wring them in front of her.

Audrey couldn't stop a little snort that came out of her when he mentioned Ron and Ginny being accidents. That seemed to happen a lot, didn't it? And to think, her brother and sister-in-law had to fight for their babies.

"I would never." She said, giving Charlie a little grin. It was small, though. "I'm sure whatever is meant to happen will happen. If George and I are meant to get married and have dozens of beautiful, ginger babies, then we will. But if we're only meant to be in each other's lives for a short time, then... well, I'll be sad. And I'll never stop loving him. But I'll survive."

	The Weasleys were a fertile bunch. Charlie figured George remembered that and was being safe. He hoped Ginny served as a recent reminder for that. 	"What? Really?" Audrey blushed a little. "Well, don't let me stop you from going to see your brother. I'm headed upstairs anyway." She gave him a bright smile. "It was good talking with you, Charlie." And with that, she turned and popped into the shop to cross to the back and head upstairs to the flat she shared now with George. (Reply to this) (Parent)
