Dressed for no where.... (tag: felix)
Ella had almost made it outside her quarters before the retinue stopped her. With a good-natured smile, albeit of chagrin, she turned back to the ladies that the Queen had insisted she employ for her needs. Goodness, her needs? Ella managed not to gawk at that. What needs could she possibly have? It turned out quite a few, if her ladies were to be believed. Ella could never put her hair just right; her dress was always wrong for the activity she chose; it was far too early or too late or too close to this meeting or that audience to go out....if it wasn't so delightfully funny, Ella might have protested. Instead, she just humored all of them and let them do as they pleased with her. They did know better, after all.
Thusly redressed, with her hair in a fetching knot at the nape of her neck, Ella finally escaped them all, with a twinge of sadness. They all did their jobs admirably, but she did not miss the subtle jibes and the rolling of their eyes when she did or said something seemingly mundane. Either too well-bred to show it or too afraid to lose favor, they were never so overt as her step-sisters, but Ella knew they all looked down upon her. It was alright, though. She expected no differently, and simply kept her opinion to herself. None of them believed she deserved her place as princess, but the decision had been made. She might regret her part in it, but the past was the past and she and Felix simply had to deal with it.
Felix...Ella felt her shoulders slump just a little, and she shifted the few books from one arm to the other as she walked towards the library. She had not seen him in a few days, and had wondered what inopportune phrase or gesture she had used this time that sent him off. At least he didn't look horrified anymore, that was a start. Eventually they would need to learn how to govern together. Ella was doing her part; the histories of the kingdom were still too weighty for her burgeoning reading skills, but she could manage some of the smaller scrolls and such. Each thing she learned about the kingdom could only help in the future.
Upon reaching the library, she began to return the books to their proper places, not paying attention to whomever wandered by. After all, the palace was a busy place even on quiet days.
