Susan had been on her way to bed, intending to simply crash as she was, too tired to think about much beside that. Her steps paused in the hall though as she heard a noise. That had sounded like ... breaking glass.

Easing an arrow from her quiver, she fitted it to the bow as she started slowly down the hall. Fighting in tight quarters like this was far from ideal, but she would do the best she could. She wasn't certain what room the noise had come from, so she stood in the hallway, listening. She heard grunts and noises that she could only describe as primal, and she shuddered, her exhaustion all but forgotten. When the door - her door - burst open, Susan didn't even have time to scream. She fired one arrow very accurately, and very soundly, but before she had time to even draw the second arrow, they were on her ...

____________

Lily had slept like the dead that night, though when she woke - early - she had vague recollections of ... breaking glass and thumps. Dreams, she supposed, inspired by one of the many fears playing chase in her mind. She'd checked the network before even getting out of bed, but there were no updates she hadn't seen. She showered, she dressed, and she stepped into the hallway. She froze before her foot even crossed the threshold. Something was wrong.

Leaning forward, sticking her head out the door, she peered down the hall. First toward the end closer to her, the end with the infirmary, and then toward the other end. She clamped her hands over her mouth to trap the scream as she saw the mangled body at the end of the hallway. She recognized the girl by the bow broken over her middle, and Lily stumbled back into her room, slamming the door closed.

For a moment, there was panic. Only panic. Simply panic. The blind animal instinct to run, run far from daner before her humanity reasserted itself and she tried to think. She did the only thing that made sense just then. Reaching for her Blackberry, Lily marked the post urgent and sent only three words, broadcast to the network:

They got in

Gwen had her gun in hand as she crept along the hallway, one eye always open in case Jack was able to locate her. That was when she spotted what appeared to be a teen boy and his pet (at least she thinks its a pet). She signaled to the boy she was harmless in spite of the gun as she fire off a pair of rounds into a second set of Reavers that had decided to follow her, sending them flying into the wall and left very dead via one more blast of bullets.

Jack's gun training had paid off in spades this time around and it showed.

She asked the kid in hopes he may have seen Jack,"You see a guy about my age in a WW2 coat around? He's armed too" hoping she was not scaring him with her gun.

Gwen knew she had to help, especially since he looked pretty young.

Jake was half temped to ask if she meant today, or right now, or ever, but since he hadn't seen anyone fitting that description, the point was a little moot. He shook his head slightly, but silently. Aware of Oy moving up behind him, Jake gazed past the woman to the fallen creatures. He stared for a moment to ensure they weren't moving, and he licked his lips.

He knew he didn't have to instruct the bumbler. At this stage of their companionship, a lot of things went unspoken between them. Oy was as much a gunslinger as Jake himself was, and they both knew it.

Instead, he stilled himself and listened. He heard nothing, and Oy gave no indication he did, either. "How many are inside, do you know?" he asked softly. He didn't know her, but that hardly seemed to matter as they were on the same side, and introductions could come later - if they survived.

"Good question, I killed at least 2 and there are more around." Gwen whispered as they walked. She knew she needed to get the kid and his pet to the safe room in case things got any worse. Gwen then shot off one last volley of bullets to make sure the Reavers were good and dead, quickly reloading her own gun in the process. Gwen had basically numbed what was left of her emotions, knowing from experience this was just the Dalek invasion all over again and this time she was a stronger person.

He nodded slightly. He hadn't honestly expected any sort of actual, numeric answer; as far as he knew, no one had any idea how many were in, or where they might be hiding. All the same, he was glad to have armed company. Better than victim company, but even armed company was not guaranteed to survive. He'd seen that a time too many for his tastes.

"Head shots seem to work," he offered, the faintest trace of a grin on his lips. Head shots were always best, and with the wolves ... there'd been plenty of practice with head shots.

"Is there anyone you know, on this floor or otherwise, who might be unprotected and need help?" he whispered even as he continued to edge closer to the stairwell. He eyed the elevator in passing, but it was silent and still, so he paid it no mind.

"So does a bullet into the eyes, only saw that when I aimed." Gwen nodded. She added just to be on the safe side,"Gwen Cooper, I'm looking for my friend Captain Jack Harkness and I know how to use the gun.". She nodded to Oy just to be on the safe side as well. "As for your question I have no idea, I did see the two I know of make it to safe havens." she explained.

Jake was moderately curious in regard to her need to specify a location on the head in reference to head shots, but maybe it was just how she was. "Jake," he replied. "And Oy," he added with a slight jerk of his head toward the bumbler.

He was also moderately amused that she had to specify that she knew how to use the gun. He refrained from adding a 'me too' because ... well, this wasn't the time and place for it.

Since he didn't know anyone here personally, he didn't have anyone he needed to check on. Which meant, more or less, he was fine taking out the invaders without worrying about seeking out people to ensure they were safe.

He had to assume everyone already had someone looking out for them, or knew enough to get somewhere safe.

So he nodded again toward the stairwell to indicate his intentions before he started to move again. He wanted to check the floor under the one they were on, and maybe continue down from there.

Gwen nodded as she followed Jake towards the stairs with her gun raised. She nodded towards the bumbler, noting it was unusual but that was nothing new for someone like her. "You see anything so far?" she finally spoke as she made sure the bullets she had sped loaded into the gun were loaded in place.

Jake paused outside the door to the stairwell, listening before he shook his head to Gwen's question. He started into the stairwell, holding his breath a moment before he started down slowly, treading carefully to minimize the noise.

Oy grunted and sat down on the top step. He yawned and stretched his neck out to peer down to the second set of stairs after the landing. "'ear," he mumbled with a shy glance toward Gwen before he stood up. Shaking out his fur, he started to bound-skitter down the stairs; bumblers were not well built for stair climbing - or descending.

Jake nodded. "Clear to the next landing," he said to Gwen as he followed after Oy.

Jack came around the corner, gun drawn and at the ready. When he spotted the creature, he immediately trained the Webley on it and aimed. But before he could fire, he heard Gwen and someone else's voices.

"Gwen?" he called out. "You okay? And what the hell is this thing I'm looking at?"

Gwen ressured Jake,"Its only Jack." before she called back. "Its me Jack and our resident ugly of the moment is a Reaver, a round or two between the eyes does the job.". That was when she fired off another set of rounds into the Reaver, making sure to aim the bullet rounds and making sure it was good and toast.

Jake's eyes narrowed slightly. "His name is Oy," he said to the man who'd called Oy a thing. On the landing, Oy shook out his fur and peered up at the new man.

"Oy," the bumbler reasserted before he moved past the man to start down the second half of the stairs to reach the next floor. He started down the stairs again, skittering to a stop in the landing.

Jake followed after, and he glanced to Jack as he passed by him to join Oy before he passed through the door to the second floor.

"Okay.... Oy. But what the hell is it?" Jack asked again. He already knew what the Reavers were, having encountered one on the way to here.

With his gun still at the ready, Jack followed behind Gwen, the kid, and the thing. "How many of those damn Reavers made it into the building? Any ideas?"
