Susan had been on her way to bed, intending to simply crash as she was, too tired to think about much beside that. Her steps paused in the hall though as she heard a noise. That had sounded like ... breaking glass.

Easing an arrow from her quiver, she fitted it to the bow as she started slowly down the hall. Fighting in tight quarters like this was far from ideal, but she would do the best she could. She wasn't certain what room the noise had come from, so she stood in the hallway, listening. She heard grunts and noises that she could only describe as primal, and she shuddered, her exhaustion all but forgotten. When the door - her door - burst open, Susan didn't even have time to scream. She fired one arrow very accurately, and very soundly, but before she had time to even draw the second arrow, they were on her ...

____________

Lily had slept like the dead that night, though when she woke - early - she had vague recollections of ... breaking glass and thumps. Dreams, she supposed, inspired by one of the many fears playing chase in her mind. She'd checked the network before even getting out of bed, but there were no updates she hadn't seen. She showered, she dressed, and she stepped into the hallway. She froze before her foot even crossed the threshold. Something was wrong.

Leaning forward, sticking her head out the door, she peered down the hall. First toward the end closer to her, the end with the infirmary, and then toward the other end. She clamped her hands over her mouth to trap the scream as she saw the mangled body at the end of the hallway. She recognized the girl by the bow broken over her middle, and Lily stumbled back into her room, slamming the door closed.

For a moment, there was panic. Only panic. Simply panic. The blind animal instinct to run, run far from daner before her humanity reasserted itself and she tried to think. She did the only thing that made sense just then. Reaching for her Blackberry, Lily marked the post urgent and sent only three words, broadcast to the network:

They got in

Violet had jury rigged some of the metal scraps the raiders had found into a semi decent given things trap. She slipped outside the safe room just long enough to rig them when things hit the fan, she slipped and crashed into the wall of the room. But for now she could only hope her on the fly idea actually helped people and proved her ongoing point.

While she may be 17 she has a brain and is not scared to use it.

But for now Violet was in pain from the landing but hiding it well, she would not be seen as weak right now.

Dug had been sitting with his paws over his head on the lap of whoever would take him. He'd been told numerous times to shush, to try and focus on something else, to here, have something to eat. He had eventually managed to distract himself by watching the strange girl with her hair tied up with a ribbon as she worked with scraps of metal. He hadn't thought to ask her what she was doing - there were some who had been very clear on the fact that they wished him to be quiet - but he watched with concern, and barked a few times in distress when she got up to put them outside the door.

She'd come back in all right, it seemed, though Dug was still concerned. He trotted over to where she was leaning on the wall with what seemed to be a pained expression on her face, and licked at her hand sort of absently.

He wasn't really sure what to say, but he was glad she was all right.

"Just slipped on something after setting the traps Dug, nothing to worry about." but Violet let the dog lick at her hand for the moment. Her mind was racing as she tried to unravel what did go wrong and quickly realized what happened.

"I think I mistimed the traps firing which lead to my slipping" since she had cooked up the traps on very short notice thanks to getting the scraps late. But in spite of the pain from a freak landing she was otherwise safe and in one piece. "I must have just confused you huh?" she confessed quietly.

His tail wagged a bit when he heard her speaking - usually, humans didn't speak unless they were okay to do so - but her words did not completely assure him that there was nothing wrong.

"Traps?" he asked curiously. "Misfire?" the words didn't mean very much to him. "We set traps to catch The Bird back home, but I do not wish to catch reavers. I wish to kill them, becuase they make people afraid. Why are you trying to catch them, Mistress Violet?"

It did not make any sense to him at all. He glanced around, but there didn't seem to be anyone on hand that could offer some assistance. The tall boy pale who smelled funny and didn't like Dug very much was standing at the door, seeming to be ready to burst through it at any moment, and there were strange sounds coming from the hall and strange smells. Dug wanted this whole thing to just be over now, and lay down at Violet's feet and whined a bit.
