RP: In Which we Party
Characters: Everyone's invited
Time/Date: Evening, July 10, 2032
Location: Lobby
Warnings/Rating: Jaime's mouth, possible drunk and disorderly conduct
Summary: It's a party. or a war meeting. Who knows.
Status: Closed

"Oh for the love of ... watch your hands," Lily muttered as she watched Jaime arguing with a pizza pan that they'd found in the cabinets. The first attempt had been something like a disaster, but then they'd found a recipe book and gone from there to make the dough. This was not an easy task, though Lily helped as much as she could.

"Think you'd be more concerned with her watching the pan," Tyler called from the rec area of the lobby as he sorted through the very eclectic collection of music. There were a few bands he'd heard of, a few his parents had probably liked, and some that he guessed were after his time. He listened to some of them and compiled something like a dance mix before setting the 20 disc player to a random shuffle.

"I'm more concerned with her burning herself," Lily quipped back before she shook her head and went back to the salad.

"I got it," Jaime protested as she closed the oven door, shaking the finger she'd burned on the rack of the stove. There were three other pizzas lined up to be cooked, and two that Lily was keeping warm with a charm. They'd raided the gas station store for chips and sodas and alcohol, and the chips were distributed around in various bowls through the rec area. The sodas (and beers and wine coolers) were in a round metal tub filled with ice on the coffee table near the video game area.

"So are we really trying ... you know. Anything but a party here?"

Lily shrugged to Jaime's question, making a slight face at the beat of the song coming from the speakers. "I don't know. If anyone wants to, I wouldn't be opposed. I just ... I'm genuinely interested in seeing the type of people we have here. Hearing what they've got to say. The network is nice, but ... it's not face to face communication."

"People are overrated," Tyler shared as he picked a handful of pretzels from the bowl nearest the kitchen. His eyes drifted to the clock and he figured people would be drifting down soon enough.

"Some are," Lily agreed as she watched the timer on the oven for a moment before she watched Jaime stick her hand in the bucket of ice. She pressed one hand to her mouth to hide the slight smile before she glanced to Tyler and shrugged a little. "Suppose we'll see what there is to see."

Magius was true to his words, heading downward just after six to find out exactly what others might know. He feared his own contributions might be small in this case, as he had been bedeviled by the different torments here and not yet done enough exploring to truly find a good thought. Though he supposed the limitation of his magic and the stolen items might be of interest...

He peered into the lobby from the stairwell, looking around. His white robes were sparkling clean, his boots polished, and he carried a smile, albeit an uncertain one.

It was something to do, and she was a touch curious. So it was that as evening rolled around, Isadora and Iridia made their way down the stairs to join the ... gathering. She would like to know who she was sharing her new home with, and as long as someone else had already gone to the trouble of setting up a gathering ... well, why not attend?

Iridia was less than thrilled with the idea, so her compromise was that they wouldn't stay long. She simply wanted to see. To observe. To get a feel for the place and the people. To listen as alcohol loosened wagging tongues.

Her attention was caught by the robed fellow, and dark brows elevated slightly before she made her way over. It was intriguing to her that there were so few people over thirty - she had met one other man, but the predominant age range seemed to be ... teens and twenty-somethings.

"Good evening," she said softly as she approached him, resting one hand on Iridia to comfort her dæmon.

He turned to face her with his usual grace, marred only by his tiredness after the long few weeks since arriving here. The sight of a beautiful woman approaching, one who looked assertive, was a surprise, and her voice made a very small smile tug at his face.

"Greetings, milady, and well met. I am Magius, of Krynn." He gave her a bow and then casting a gaze aside to the black panther at her side, one eyebrow tracking upward, and he bowed to the cat as well. One should never leave out a companion.

That was an interesting name, but she'd seen a variety here - from common to completely foreign to her - so it came as no true surprise. "Isadora Raleigh," she replied as she inclined her head in a nod in return to his bow. "And this is Iridia, my dæmon." She assumed she'd have to go through the whole explanation once more, but eventually she'd come up with a summary version - or simply start introducing him as a companion.

She didn't recognize his place of residence - or origin - and she was a little curious about that. But then ... why would she be familiar with anything save her own realm, her own people?

"Have you recently arrived?" she inquired. She hadn't seen him around before, but that meant little. She'd been keeping to herself a fair bit, and she knew hiding in the rooms was pretty common practice.

His smile was intrigued. Rarely did he meet such companions, though he had known a ranger who boasted a boon companion in an older cheetah. Her word daemon made an eyebrow rise again, and he quirked his lips. "I shall assume that daemon means other in your world than in mine. I have known many who have companions, both magical and non, and I am pleased to meet you both."

"Upon a couple of weeks, merely. And mostly prowling about on my own, hoping for a way home." His smile edged to wry and he nodded. And he had been sulking as well.

"And you, milady? Have you been in this strange demesnes long?"

"Perhaps it does," she agreed, her head tipping to one side as she pondered that. "In my world, everyone is born with a dæmon. It is a reflection of our soul made animal, so he is a part of me rather than ... something I picked up at a flea market," she added, her eyes sparkling with amused mischief.

She nodded slightly. A couple of weeks ... so just about as long as her, give or take. They must have simply kept missing each other. "About that, give or take a few days I believe. I was not very concerned with noting the date upon my arrival and I suppose I lost track of time all together the first few days."

He squinted, but nodded, hmming briefly as he fit that piece of knowledge into his mind. "In my world, Daemons are beings from an other dimension bent on the subjugation and sublimation of humans and the other races in the prime material plane." He said it matter-of-factly, for it was fact to him. He turned his gaze outward to her again. "I would be intrigued to learn more about him, and how he developed. Magic in all it's forms is something of a life study of mine."

He chuckled at her loss of time. "Ah, yes. This place does seem to encourage losing track of time. I have done so twice, I believe. This place almost reminds me of an odd dungeon I once wandered through."

She nodded. "I had heard that description before, and that generally humans consider demon to be evil." She smiled softly. "Iridia isn't evil. Nor do I believe he's ... magic," she murmured. "If everyone where I live has a dæmon, how magical can they truly be?"

But then, perhaps that simple fact was magic to those who didn't live there, to those who had never met a dæmon.

She tilted her head and lifted her shoulders in a shrug. "This place bears little resemblance to anything I have encountered before. But then, I have never been held against my will before. Nor have I ever associated captors with ... such outstanding accommodations. Suppose there's a first time for everything."

"Good. A boon companion is a thing to make a life wealthy, much like a familiar. I hope your life is always enriched by his presence." Her words made him smile. "Magic is everywhere, it simply may run to the more solid in your world."

He canted his head, and hmmed, watching her tilt hers. "I understand. While the rooms and buildings are not utterly strange to me, almost everything within them is. From food to clothing, this world's accouterments truly make me feel a stranger in my own skin." He blushed slightly thinking of how he had first fumbled learning the shower, and how long it had taken him to understand it.

She smiled, nodding slightly. Perhaps the dæmon were a form of magic, and who was she to argue? So that, she let slide; she wasn't inclined to have a deep, philosophical conversation just then.

"There are some differences, yes. Some more significant than others, but the basics are much the same," Dora admitted. "Similar enough that I can find my way around without too much stumbling. I haven't ventured into attempting to discover how everything works, but I was hardly concerned with the hows in my own home. Things ... simply worked."

Slender shoulders rose and fell, the fingers of one hand toying with Iridia's ear to further soothe the big cat. "But until someone works out a way home ... then here we are."

He envied her the familiarity, even as he was enjoying discovering things anew. "I'm a little more researcher, myself, but all have different callings." He nodded.

"Every thing I possessed that could have taken me away was taken from my person and from my mind before arrival. Whosoever these jailers be, they must be most puissant indeed..."

He forced a smile, though with good company he found it coming easier. "What have you done to keep yourself busy?"

She wasn't at all surprised to hear he'd been stripped of relevant powers. "That's going around," she offered. "People have powers that should work, but mysteriously don't ... and most of them are related to escaping, or discovering things I can't imagine the captors want us to know."

While she wondered how they did it, she supposed it was likely some technology beyond her grasp - or poison that targeted and weakened specific aspects of a person. She was certainly no stranger to those sorts of ... medicines.

"I've spent time simply getting to know the place and observing the people. Listening, exploring, seeking a chink in the armor. There has to be one, and when it's found, I intend to dig at it until we've all been released."

Or ... until she had. She didn't care overmuch if anyone else found a way out.

He nodded, listening. "I am not surprised, for it makes some sense of wit, after all. But if they think stripping me of majora powers would render me helpless, they thought foolishly." His eyes narrowed for a moment as he looked inward, feeling the pool of magic within him like a shimmering sea of threads waiting to be plucked.

He snapped back to hear her later words. "Ah, yes. Such is to be admired. I have had little luck finding any weaknesses in the defenses of this place. It seems so open and yet feels as closed as a trap constructed of finest adamant."

She smiled softly, dipping her chin in a nod. "There has been talk by those who can apparently tell better than I can that we are in some sort of closed environment."

Her shoulders rose and fell. "It wouldn't surprise me. If the line isn't enough to stop someone very determined - or very lucky - then they'd need a secondary means of holding us in this ... gilded cage."

There was definitely a psychological aspect to the line - they were told not to cross it, and those who defied that order suffered harm. But someone was bound to get lucky, hit a weak spot, and make it across ... and they couldn't risk a true escape, now could they?

He canted a glance upward, thinking. "Mayhap. It feels like a trap, a prison, so to speak, but... there is more to it, or else why leave us so much of ourselves. Someone who could have stolen some of my magics could presumably have stolen all of them. In finding an answer to that, one might learn an answer to the rest."

Then he smiled to her. "In the meanhap, how do you, here? Have you found ought to amuse?"

"Likely just to see what we'll do when stripped of some of our resources, I'm sure." She, fortunately, hadn't had any inherent powers to be deprived of ... though she did miss having access to the tools of her profession.

Still, she was still herself and she had her mind and her wits and Iridia.

"I wouldn't say amuse, no," she admitted. "I have kept my mind active though, and I have observed the people here, engaged in conversation with a few. Listened to the tales of the line and how it was an obsession for some. But like so many others, I wile away most of my time in my room."

Iridia made a slight sound as his yellow cat eyes settled on the man. His lip curled back a little as though he was displeased at being discounted in the observations.

Isadora chuckled softly, smoothing down the panther's fur. "I'm certain he meant to say third set," she assured the panther before she shifted her gaze back to Magius.

After all, no one else had shown up with a giant black panther padding along at their side.

Kara had colored her hair to a blend of cool colors for the night, or, for those of you with a slightly less artistic background, a mixture of blue green and violet. She had done it more out of nerves for the impending crossing of the line that she was planning on doing, than anything else. She hadn't told anyone else, not wanting them to worry about her.

She dressed in a green plaid skirt, tight violet tank top and a few leather accessories tonight. She basically went all out, hoping that a certain someone would notice her and say something. She also felt that, if she was going to meet anyone new, she should probably look as good as she could.

She chose the stairs, as she usually did since she could move down them faster not to mention the people in control of the building still weren't proving to be very trustworthy. She didn't want to get stuck in an elevator. Well... not unless there is a really hot guy with her, and he's interested in her.

When she got downstairs, she had to hold herself back from eating a lot. She had eaten a little earlier, but her metabolism works so fast that she has a tendency to eat as much as she can get. She didn't know how many people were going to be showing up though, so she didn't want to eat her fill, and there only be one bag of chips left for everyone else.

She walked around a little, trying to not go directly towards Tyler. She was a few years younger than he was, and she knew that. Didn't change the fact that she had a crush on him. It did, however, cause her to want to be a little careful with the time she spent initiating things with him. She made sure to position herself within his eyesight, but made sure not to just go over and start flirting with him.

Swan had taken some time to explore the place, and was on her way back inside when she noticed the small crowd that had gathered. She did recall some mention of a party on the network, and a hesitant smile tugged at her lips. Deep blue eyes played slowly over each person, and while it wasn't precisely in her nature to be afraid of people, she was a little overwhelmed by the entire situation.

Deciding that Kara looked the least threatening and the one she stood the most chance of having something in common with, Swan started over toward her.

"Hello," she said softly. "My name's Swan," she introduced herself as she studied the girl curiously in an attempt to determine her age and what had made them want to kidnap her here.

Will showed up a little later than everyone else, mostly because she was self conscious about how she looked. She had probably stood in front of the mirror criticizing herself for a half hour before finally getting dressed, but here she was finally. Having to do the whole new girl thing again, and this time it wasn't just a new school thing, it was... she didn't really know what it was.

She looked around when she got down to the lobby, seeing all sorts of different people. She was used to all these types of people, though they usually weren't all in the same place like this. The guy on the couch who looked like some sort of mercenary would have fit in perfectly in Meridian, but the two girls she chose to walk towards were better suited for a normal place like Earth, so she chose there to begin her attempt at making friends.

She approached somewhat cautiously, "Hi, I'm Will."

Kara paid little attention to the fact that one of the girls seemed to be studying her, for she was used to that sort of thing. New people coming in and trying to figure out what everyone did when they were brought to Dr. Guider.

"Nice to finally meet people a bit closer to my age," she mentioned as a side note. She wasn't completely sure how old they were, but at least one of them looked, probably her age, and the other was probably just a little younger.

"Are there a lot of people not our age here?" She inquired. Granted, a glance around the room put most of the people as slightly (if not significantly) older than them.

Easing onto the floor beside the couch, crossing her ankles with her knees splayed, Swan settled down there.

She had stopped keeping track of how long, since she was doing her very best just to make the best of things.

She found she was capable of forgetting about her problems every so often, usually when Tyler was involved in the mix. "I think there is one girl a few years younger than me, but aside from her, not that I've seen," she told Swan.

Younger than her? Swan cringed a little at the idea. Kara couldn't be more than fifteen; how young was younger? She shook her head and tried to pull herself into the here-and-now, to not wonder what was going on back home. Robin must be missing her, and likely assuming the worst.

"Just ... a little over a day or two," she admitted. The days really were blurred, but she was pretty sure it hadn't been that long. Panic did distort things though ... not that she was panicking. Not yet, anyway.

Jayne was less than certain about this 'party' thing. The last one hadn't gone very well at all. He'd only really talked to the one guy who was trying to recruit him to be a wingman, and he'd gotten no trim at all. Not even a prospect of it.

Granted, if he believed the guy he'd been talking with, the red-head might be an easy mark. He spied her in the kitchen with a dark-haired girl, who also looked mighty attractive. But then, at this point, just about anything with breasts was a hot prospect to him.

On that thought, he wondered if Kaylee was going to be in attendance. On the tail of that, he hoped Mal wasn't. He didn't need captain bring-down driving off all the lovely ladies.

Strolling on into the lobby rec area, he offered nods to anyone who happened to glance his way before he moseyed on over to a couch, settling down on it to ... well, watch.

Greg had decided that he was absolutely, positively, and horribly BORED out of his mind in this place. It had been too long since he had a puzzle to solve, everything was so easy here. Dirty, yes, annoying, maybe, but easy, none-the-less. He stared at the ceiling as he was lying on his bed, glancing at the time to realize that he was going on three hours of absolutely nothing.

Would he actually have to socialize here for entertainment?

He gave a rough groan before he slowly sat up, grabbing his cane as he stood. He swung it in a lazy circle before he started to walk towards the door, deciding that he would go downstairs for food. No, he wasn't hungry, but he needed to get out of that room...

It wasn't until he started to head down the stairs that he heard the music, and he cocked an eyebrow, noticing all the people showing up... they had parties here too? This entire place was like the literal interpretation of a mad house... Greg almost missed the mental institution.

He walked in, slowly, before he slowly moved over to the kitchen, glancing around. He saw Lily, the only familiar face, but he didn't want to bother her... she was already talking with people and he didn't want to deal with that socially.

Oh god, why was he still here? He glanced at the kitchen, then the stairs... Well he wasn't exactly hungry. And his room was terribly boring...

Greg grabbed a beer from the metal tub, walked to an open seat, and sat down, resting his cane on his leg as he opened his drink and started to sip. Watching people was always mildly entertaining, he supposed...

She wasn't completely sure she wanted to be here, but they had their points. She should get to know the people here ... and if Lily and the others had taken the time to gather them all in one place, then the least she could do was show up. Then she wondered if the trio of them - Jaime, Tyler, and Lily - were becoming ... what? The leaders? Lily had been here longest, hands down, so that gave her seniority, but ...

... well. It wasn't exactly like anyone else was stepping up, and if they wanted the burden of leadership, more power to them.

Pale blue eyes drifted over the others present before she settled into a seat beside a bowl of chips. She listened to the sounds coming from the kitchen - the trio of them again - and she thought about that dynamic. Well, she'd help out if she could. If they wanted her to.

When her eyes fell on the older man with the cane, she offered him a smile of greeting. She hadn't seen him around before, so she wondered if he was new, or had simply been living a hermit life until now. Really, she thought either option was equally likely.

"Hello," she offered him quietly. "Are you new here?"

Greg was getting a bit more soaked into the way everyone was interacting... there were a few women who slowly started to enter the room and of course, they were flocked by whatever free male was available... it was almost amazing, when put in a survivalist situation, how eager everyone was for physical or emotional contact. Really, deep down, no one wanted to be alone.

Greg couldn't help but smile in a sense of faint amusement before he sipped his beer. As his eyes scanned the room they caught the eyes of a younger girl, and he had an awkward moment of whether he should continue to look away or meet her eyes again. She already saw him, so he smiled back at her softly, and when she spoke to him he seemed a bit surprised.

"Yes, I am." He said back to her. Everyone here seemed to willing to speak to him... it wasn't like home. And he was still getting used to it... "I got here a few days ago actually, I'm still trying to get the mechanics of this place..."

"Yes, well. Best of luck with that. We've been here for weeks and haven't worked this place out yet." She shook her head. "Even when we think we've got a handle on it ... they pull something else out of the woodwork to throw at us."

She glanced over to him. "You'll see," she said quietly. "They'll like as not eventually do something to you." At least the worst she'd had to deal with was a stench in her room ... so far.

"I'm Susan," she said awkwardly, realizing that introductions should have come first, but she was losing her manners in this place.

Reid Garwin could hardly believe his luck. Oh wait, yes he could. He definitely loved parties. All kinds. Pool parties, club parties, bars, even birthday ones. And now he was going to one in his first week in this new place. At least there was at least one person he knew here. Or.. two. But Reid didn't trust the other one. He'd try not to worry too much, though.

He finally made his way down to the lobby, dressed in simple jeans, blue shirt, and black hooded jacket, glancing around to see who he knew as well as looking around at the new people. There were quite of few. Hopefully, maybe he'd make a new friend or two before it was over. Smiling to himself, he reached for a handful of pretzels. He was hungry after all. As he took a few into his mouth, he looked around for the closest person to him so that he could introduce himself.

Leaving Jaime to finish up in the kitchen, Tyler reached out to tug at Lily's sleeve when he saw Reid. He was pretty sure they hadn't met yet, and he was eager to introduce them. "Where've you been hiding?" he teased Reid once he was closer, gesturing over to Lily.

"This is Lily," he introduced her. "She's been here the longest," he continued. "Lily, this is Reid. One of my best friends from home."

"Hardly something to brag about," she quipped before extending a hand toward Reid. "Pleasure to meet you, Reid. I've heard quite a bit about you," Lily added with a slight grin. "Are you settling in all right?"

Emerald eyes flicked over the boy, but he did look to be about Tyler's age, and they apparently had a similar taste in clothing. Moderately amused, she glanced over to Tyler, brows elevating slightly before she swung her attention back to Reid.

"Nowhere important," Reid quipped back at the jest about a hiding place. It was so good to see a familiar face. To see his friend once again. He then looked at Lily and smiled. She seemed nice. He hoped everyone else here was like that.

"I hope what you heard was all good," he said with a smirk, though he wouldn't be surprised if there was some 'bad boy' type tales in there too. It was true, he did have a bit of a rebel rep back home. "I'm settling in okay, I guess. Still here in one piece. So, I hear there's a pool. I don't know if Tyler told you," he added, looking at his friend with a wink, "but we were on the school swim team in Ipswich..."

"Well, I suppose it would depend on your definition of 'good' ..." Lily murmured before she grinned lightly. "But yes, it was more or less good." She glanced over to Tyler before shifting her emerald eyes back to Reid.

"He did mention about the swim team, yes. Once or twice. How ... all four of you were on it." He'd also mentioned Chase being on it ... but Lily didn't feel she needed to bring that up around Reid. "Perhaps though the two of you will have to give me a demonstration some time."

Tyler grinned and shook his head before running a hand down his mouth to wipe away his grin. He somehow didn't doubt that Reid would jump at the chance to show off for Lily. "Maybe some time," he said with a little laugh.

Shifting his weight, he moved to a nearby chair, settling into it before gesturing for the others to do the same.
