It had been ages since David had been to the beach. Even before the zombies came, he'd never been a big fan of going on his own. Only with his family, and even then, he never really had any fun. The beach girls always flocked to Elliot, and David was the weird kid stuck hanging around with their parents and bored. When he got old enough, he went alone once. But ended up equally bored. Now, though... it was different. He was there with a group of people who liked him. And so far, this was the most fun he'd had since the apocalypse had started. He sat on the beach in a lawn chair, another chair set beside him in case someone wanted to join him, smiling a little as he watched the waves crash and the sun go down. It was relatively zombie free here—there were a few stragglers in different areas, but in David's line of sight, there was nothing—and looking around, it was easy to forget what kind of world they were living in now. It was easy to forget what was probably swimming around right under the waves he watched, too. A little smile crossed his face, and he pulled in a deep breath, another smile when the ocean air hit him. It was almost heavenly. Almost. A little smirk crossed his face, and he reached down into his cooler, pulling a small bag out, as well as a stack of papers. It had been ages—god, ages—since he'd had anything smokeable. But he did. And he planned on doing what he could to enjoy it while he was here. “Best post-apocalyptic vacation ever,” he muttered to himself. |
