Site Glossary

[info]00sevvie
[info]hp_festlist
Just a few notes on terminology here, to avoid confusion.

Category: The basic set of classifications for fests – the way we organize them here. All fests listed on the site are classified according to seven categories, each with its own tag:

--The central character or characters around whom the fest revolves
--The pairing (or threesome, etc.) around which the fest revolves, if it is a pairing-oriented fest
--The genre of the fest with regard to pairings – gen, het, slash, femmeslash, etc.
--Any special theme or themes of the fest, beyond character and/or pairing
--The season of the year during which entries are posted
--The media of eligible entries – fic, art, or both
--The type of fest – anonymous exchange, prompt ficathon, Choose Your Own Author, etc.

Genre: Here on HPFL this term refers only to the broadest pairing-based genres: gen, het, slash, and femmeslash. Fests in which fic/art of multiple genres is possible will be tagged “multiple.”

Pairing: This term is used loosely here on HPFL, and encompasses threesomes (Draco/Harry/Severus) and moresomes.

Prompted: Refers to fests in which participants choose/are given a prompt or set of prompts from which to work.

Reverse: A type of fest in which participants pick the person who will create their gift, usually based on submitted prompts/ads for the work the author/artist wishes to create. Also known as “Choose Your Own Author/Artist.”

Season: The time of year when fic and/or art is publically posted for the first time. There are four seasons for our purposes here:

--Spring: posting between March 1 – May 31
--Summer: June 1 – August 31
--Fall: September 1 – November 30
--Winter: December 1 – February 28/29

Status: Refers to the nature of the fest as a one-time or recurring event. Fests that are going into, in the midst of, or have just finished their first round are considered new. Fests that re-occur periodically are recurring, while fests that were one-time events and have completed posting, or recurring ones that have decided to forgo future rounds, are considered past.

Theme: Many fests are organized not just around character but also around some theme – holidays, character birthdays, smut, a particular approach to writing a character, and so on.

Type: The basic way a fest works, and/or the organizational template for the fest – some are anonymous exchanges, some let you pick your author/artist, some have participants pick from a list of prompts for their work. Big Bangs and Fuh-Q-Fests are considered types as well.

Welcome!

Hello all!

Welcome to the Harry Potter Fest Masterlist, your place for all HP fic and art fest info. (At least, as much info as we can gather. ;) )

Whether you're looking for interesting fests to participate in, are wanting to start a new fest for your favorite character but uncertain if s/he's already got one, or are just browsing, we cordially invite you to take a look around and make yourselves at home. The tags at the left will take you where you need to go - if it's a bit confusing, take a look at the "tags - finding things" entry in our User's Manual. If you've got other questions, or want to drop us a comment, feel free to contact the mods at

darkprincesnape AT yahoo DOT com

and we'll get back to you ASAP. We welcome your feedback and constructive suggestions for improving the site.

We also would love it if you could give us the information for any Harry Potter fic and/or art fests you know of that are not posted here. We'd like to be as inclusive and informative as possible, and do our best to find everything, but we aren't omniscient or gifted with unlimited internet-browsing time. So we depend upon helpful visitors like you to point out what we've missed. If you know a lot of fests and have the time and inclination to be more involved, we might even be able to take you on as part of the mod staff in the future.

Note, 1/15/2010: At the moment, this site is brand-new and most of the lists of fest info have yet to be filled out and posted. We will be updating the site as frequently as possible in the near future, so check back now and then. We still very much welcome your input and suggestions for fests to include, of course.

If you know of a fest that's not listed here and would like us to add it to the list, just comment on this post with the necessary info - name, character/theme, whether it's currently running or not, and most importantly a link. It only takes a minute, and you'll have our eternal gratitude. Rules about what is considered a fest for our purposes here (to keep things manageable) can be found under the "what counts as a fest?" tag at left. (Basically, it's got to have a deadline and a specific posting date.) Direct posting to the lists themselves is limited because of our tag-based navigation system - improperly-tagged posts will be lost, which nobody wants. So instead of making you do the work there, we simply take the info you give us and post it for you!

But you are welcome to comment on entries (no flames, of course) as well as to email us directly. If you're interested in helping out with maintaining the lists, please drop us an email!

We hope you find our site useful, and go enter those fests! There's never to much fanfic and -art.

Thanks for visiting and be sure to pass our link on to your friends,

- Your Friendly Mods

Festlist User's Manual: How to Find Things with Tags

[info]00sevvie
[info]hp_festlist

Hi everyone!

To make things a bit easier on those coming to our site for the first time, your friendly mods have put together a sort of user's manual for the site. Being able to find what you want is obviously an issue of importance, so it gets a page and a tag to itself. If you have any questions about navigating the site that are not answered here, please comment on this post or drop us an email at

darkprincesnape AT yahoo DOT com

We'll answer your question, and if necessary fix things, as soon as we can. Feedback is welcome, please do not be shy!
