RP: Meeting
Who: Everyone
When: 9:00 AM, 21st May
Where: Great Hall
What: Harry brings everyone up to date

Harry was getting this explanation down to an art form, but while talking to his friends, it was mostly about giving the evidence, his guesses and letting them spot any problems, it was different when talking to so many people, when he had to convince them that he was right, but he supposed that this was what he did.

"Morning, I wanted to bring you all here to discuss something important, something that will keep away from the journals when possible. As you know, we've uncovered the first clue. While it doesn't tell us where the vault is, the clue and more importantly the way we got to the clue made me think." He stopped pacing and stood in front of the professors' table, looking down at their little group. "The clues were part of my life, part of Ron and Hermione's lives. The twins' store, the chess game to read the Sorcerer's Stone. There's so much that it's directed at us, that it got me thinking."

He jumped so he could sit on the table. "When we got here, we read that they were doing experiments to help with pregnancies. We all took it for good, because none of us knew better, but the younger generations have told us that there were plenty of spells already available, including an experimental spell to create a child without a mother, all done with magic. There were already spells that did what allegedly the Ministry did, so why would the Ministry, why would Hermione, the most logical person I know, approve something so stupid? Why would Padma, a person who is known for her ability to keep her calm, throw a fit and quit instead of staying and sabotaging things from the inside? It makes no sense. Why would I agree to force people to have children? None of this makes sense.

"Parvati had a vision that foretold the end of our civilization. It was supposed to be something that only Ministers knew, but Ministers change and their advisers know and eventually people find out, so here's what I'm thinking. People knew about the end so they wanted more children. Purebloods blaiming the influence of the Muggle world. Half-bloods and Muggleborns claiming that we needed to open more," he said. "But what if behind the scenes they were working together, pushing their own agenda, trying to create spells to force pregnancies, create clones, we don't know this part."

He jumped off the table. "I think we found out. Hermione wouldn't have kept me and Ron in the dark about the prophecy when things were going to hell, and we would have needed the D.A. I believe that the rumours, the 'experiments', they were a combination of us trying to save our people. We must have been working on a way to get people back either through time or death magic, and that was nothing we could have done within the Ministry, so off Padma went and she started researching, while we prepared things for after, for when people came back. I also think that we might have leaked enough conflicting information that countries and magical beings didn't come here to check."

Parvati spoke up. "That might explain why Firenze hasn't answered me yet. They wouldn't be happy if they suspected that we were messing with time and death."

"I wouldn't be happy either, but if we had no choice-" He shrugged. "I don't think the castle did it. I think we did it, but maybe people died before it could be perfected. I could keep things together, create clues, prepare a vault, but I wouldn't have been able to deal with the magic. I might have cast whatever spell I had when there was no more time left. Or we might have had a good spell, but it mixed with all the magic at Hogwarts. We don't know, but we need to find out more. This won't be easy, but from now on, most of our resources will be devoted to researching this. We will find what happened and we'll make sure that it doesn't happen again. Padma will coordinate the research arm of this. As of now, all of your other jobs are secondary to what she needs. This time, I don't need Hermione and Ron. I don't need the D.A.. I need everyone. Every single one of you has something to contribute, whether you know it or not."

He smiled. "And since we're about to throw ourselves into this and probably working more than the regular work day, I'm making official a proposal from Jamie and everyone will have twenty days off to take as you like. You also have ten sick days. Finally if you want to switch day from the weekday to the weekend and it's approved by whoever is your Head, then it's fine too." And if people worked 24/7, 7 days a week he wouldn't say anything, because that was his default. "While we're all here, let's take the time to talk to each other and start organizing time. You can talk to me privately as well if you need to."

Theo had been lingering off to the side just watching people mingle here and there about whatever points of interest they had in the speech. He knew he had a few things to think over, and would when he had time to focus. Overall he was pleased, it was what he had wanted. Not exactly what he wanted but so close it was passable. The plan was a good one, the speech did what it was clearly intended to do, and onward they would go doing what he was going to do anyway, but now with less restrictions and more focus.

Although he did have a lot of questions and odd thoughts all tangled up in one mass. He just needed time to muse on it all and declutter his thoughts.

"Good morning, Padma," he said in turn as he saw her draw closer. He was anticipating her talk, although the specifics he could only guess at. He smiled with contentment and a slight shrug. "Some weeks are luckier than others," he said wryly.

He gave a small chuckle and a nod. "Sure. I think I got a few minutes I can spare for you. What proposition?"

"So accommodating." She chuckled as well before growing more serious within the very next breath. "If anyone else here can understand the complexity of what we're looking into, I think it's you. The layers of possible magic that could have all converged to create this situation mean we've got more potential paths of study than we do resources to get us there. We have some of the best minds in recent history at our disposal and I want to start consulting with...well, nearly everyone since most people here either have a background in some sort of esoteric magic or they witnessed the times in which this magic was created and may have knowledge of context clues their unaware of."

Tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, she sighed. "Throw in adding Draco and Hermione to our core team, and organizing everything, it's going to be a lot of work and I'm going to need help keeping everything going. I would like to ask you to take on the role of Deputy Head. If I'm busy with one branch of the work, I want people to be able come to you if something else comes up that needs our attention. Think you're up to it?"

Consulting with him on the matters at play he had expected but a promotion of sorts on the other hand had caught him a little off guard. He smiled genuinely at Padma, who he regarded with a respect he rarely afforded to others. He was in fact very flattered and it showed.

"I believe our work together will be of a great benefit to everyone. It's very rare to have someone who understands things in the same context that I do. We have the potential here with the people present to accomplish great feats," he said in understanding. Bringing in others was necessary to seeing the complete picture and he didn't at all mind in helping to facilitate the process, even if dealing with more people meant he'd have to work a little harder personally. It would be worth it. It could be fun too, in some ways.

Extending his hand to shake her own he nodded. "I'm up to the task."

"Thank you." As Padma took his hand to shake on the arrangement, it was with a relieved smile. When it came to understanding esoteric magic, she knew Hermione and Draco were assets. But, she also knew they would side with Harry over her no matter what, whether he was right or not. Plus, there was the added complication that her trust in all three of the 'Golden Trio', but Hermione especially, had been greatly damaged when obliviating her against her will was insisted upon. Having a 'second in command', as it were, that she could trust to put the work ahead of the personalities would help.

"Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful partnership," she added. "And a busy one. I've started talking to some of the others about helping with the context research. I was hoping you could run point on working with the other purebloods on brainstorming some possibilities for the familial magic, sorting through the books they brought back from the manors in the beginning. I'm going to talk to my sister to see when she and I can go to our parents' this weekend. If I wasn't working on this at the Ministry, I'd have done the work there. We can get any of the family spellbooks that might still be there while we're at it."

Not one to commit to anything unless he was very sure he was willing to do it, Theo was fully invested. Being able to coordinate and delegate work in the interim made things run far smoother, and the idea of working with Draco pleased him. Hermione he could manage, feeling he could at least appeal to her more scholarly instincts. In favor of the work that needed doing he could put aside most things, or work around them to met his ends.

"I believe it will be," he said letting his hand fall back to his side. "I assume you mean Regulus and Lucius to start?" He asked. He thought perhaps there may be more, but who had collected before his arrival he couldn't say. "Anyone else you'd like me to include? Or perhaps make some general inquiries?"

"Regulus and Lucius are a good start, but Regulus' brother might have learned some spells as well," she pointed out. "And all the pureblood lines have some traditional spells that are handed down through generations. So, let's not discount Harry's father, the Weasleys, or Marlene." Really, she had spent way too many hours the night before considering the various avenues of research they would need to start investigating before they hit something useable. "From there, I suppose we'll need to branch out to the half-bloods and see if any of their ancestors from pureblood lines passed on inherited spells."

Seeing Harry across the room, she was reminded of another avenue she needed to discuss with him before sending her team down that particular path. "And about a dozen other potential lines of research will crop up from whatever we glean from them, I'm sure. But, I need to grab Harry for a moment while he's free. We'll talk later today about further details?" She smiled as she was already starting to move away. "I'm sure you'll regret taking me up on Deputy Head before the week is up with everything it's going to put on your plate, but I'm glad you said yes."
