RP: Severus & Lily
Who: Severus & Lily
When: April 23rd
Where: Greenhouse 3
What: Severus goes looking for ingredients. Please come and pester him.

Severus strode out of the castle and headed towards the greenhouses, briefly wishing he'd worn some of his old teaching robes. He'd always enjoyed the way they billowed as he walked. He'd spent far too long learning how to do that without magic not to enjoy it as much as he could. But admittedly, there wasn't really anyone who would be overly intimidated by that these days, which did tend to suck some of the fun out of it. He would have to settle for scowling as a way of intimidating people, something he;d been doing a lot of in the wake of their recent 'adventure'.

He glanced over at the Forest as he walked and knew that at some point he wanted to make an excursion in there to see what was available in there - and what might be lurking in its depths. He would need to speak to Potter about that as he wasn't foolish enough to think about going in there alone. He also made a mental note to speak to Potter about whether it was possible to get down into the Chamber of Secrets, partly because he just wanted to see it but also because there might still be something useful left in the carcass of the basilisk. Since their access to certain useful markets in Europe was currently limited, the carcass - or whatever was left of it - would have to do.

He paused at the entrance to Greenhouse 3 and then opened the door carefully, his wand abruptly in his hand. The house elves may well have been looking after things in here but he knew better than to underestimate anything in here. It was why he had earmuffs tucked away in a pocket and various herbicide potions on him as well. When nothing immediately attacked him, he stepped into the greenhouse and looked around for the Venomous Tentaculas.

Pulling out her wand as she made her way towards the taller figure, Lily felt like there was something familiar about the man. As she got closer it became clear that the plant he was near was a Venomous Tentacula, which explained the defensive posture and slightly wary tone in the mans' voice. If Lily was going to be the one handling the greenhouses, this would prove a good test for her abilities.

She felt a little more confident after assessing the situation, striding forward ready to help handle the Venomous Tentacula. "Looks like you might need a hand with those," she offered casually, eyebrows raising slightly as she finally was able to get a good look at him.

"Severus?" she asked, almost not believing her own eyes. She knew he was here; he had even responded to the message she directed his way. She just didn't expect to run into him randomly. "You look well," she murmured with a soft grin. "I'm glad I ran into you, since I hear we're going to be working together in a way."

Years of experience allowed Severus to force his tumultuous feelings under control. And they were tumultuous. He'd never really been able to wrangle them properly when it came to Lily. He had loved her, still did love her in some way he couldn't define... or wasn't willing to define... or wasn't able to define... and would probably always love her. His patronus was proof of that. He knew there was probably some trite line about first love being eternal that Albus - older Albus - might well have thrown in at this point, just to annoy him, had he been here.

But he also knew that his love for her back then had not been healthy. Not for her and definitely not for him. He had never had a healthy example of love to learn from. His parents, he knew, had loved each other but they'd also spent their time tearing each other apart - his father overtly and loudly and violently and his mother with all the Slytherin cunning she had possessed... which had been a lot. There had been a lot of reasons why he'd spent a lot of time out of the house. Too much time really, even for the Muggle standards of the 60s. Though it had been those same standards that had ensured no one had ever called the police. It just wasn't done to interfere with other people's private affairs.

"Lily," he said as he mercilessly shoved all of that back down into the little mental box he usually kept all things 'Lily' in. "It is... good to see you." And it was. She hadn't changed from the last time he'd caught a glimpse of her. Obviously. "Ah yes, I had noticed you were working with the new Department of Mysteries."

He opened his mouth to say something else, hopefully something less stilted, but a low rustle from behind him had him skipping forward quickly then turning and slashing down with his wand with a quick wordless spell. The two vines from the nearest Venomous Tentacula that had been slinking quietly towards him quickly slithered backwards and the plant itself rustled ominously.

Any potential tension Lily felt at facing Severus once again was flaring up. Still, she kept the grin in place. She'd been harboring a small amount of hope that she could reignite her friendship with Severus. After hearing what he'd done for Harry, the fondness that she felt for her former friend sparked anew. She had no idea of he would still be nursing old grudges about the James of it all, but they were adults now, and a lot had happened in the intervening years.

She studied his face as she got close enough to get a good look at him. It was odd seeing how he aged. She caught the pause in words and made herself not read too much into it. At least from what she could sense his civility didn't seem forced, which had her believing that perhaps they would be able to at least work together without it being too awkward. If he felt otherwise, then she assumed he would let her know in some fashion. Until then, she was content to proceed as she had been while still taking certain cues from him regarding just how familiar he wanted them to be.

"It's good to see you, as well," she responded before peeking past him at the Venomous Tentacula. "Yes, well, I was told I needed a job of some sort, and apparently some genius already claimed the potions spot, so I thought I could perhaps lend my expertise to assisting with the plants and such."

She watched in slight awe as he wordlessly stopped the Tentacula from grabbing him, shaking her head as an amused laugh fell from her lips. "I should have guessed you would have things under control, for the most part. You've always been quick with a spell." That didn't mean she was going to leave just yet. "I figured I could get a jump on finding out what we have and what we might need."
