Entry tags:character: regulus black, character: remus lupin

RP: Regulus/Remus
Who: Regulus/Remus
When: Morning, 18 April
Where: Slytherin dormitory
What: Regulus needs to talk to Remus

Regulus had avoided Remus. It wasn't something easy with a population of two dozens, but he'd done an amazing job, eating in his rooms and working most of the day. He just needed time to himself to deal with what had transpired on Wednesday night, to understand the things that he had said and done. He probably would need more than a few days, but he owed Remus and explanation.

He sent a message asking Remus to come to the dormitory. Rules dictated that he go and see Remus for an apology, but there was no way that he would have this discussion in the Gryffindor tower, with Sirius and Potter around.

He was anxious when he heard the knock. Kreacher opened the door and let Remus in. The Slytherin common room was much the same, but the table had been made bigger with more chairs. He didn't know why since he didn't entertain, but Kreacher insisted that it was proper to have a dining room table.

"Good morning. I have prepared brunch for us," he said, gesturing toward the table. "And by me, I do mean Kreacher, so there's no fear of being poisoned by my non existent attempts at cooking."

"Because we can?" Remus supplied with a grin. Honestly, this was one of the things he liked best about spending time with Regulus. Their minds could keep up with each other and follow a conversation from topic to topic with seeming ease. "But, there are a few consonants we use as vowels to make up the difference," he pointed out, mirth dancing in his eyes.

"But, of course. We're too intellectually minded not to ensure we have a thorough and well-rounded education." Chuckling, he traced random patterns over Regulus' back with his fingers. "I'm sure we can do better than that. Twelve inches minimum," he teased. "Just to make sure we have a diverse enough sampling of things to try." It was, perhaps, the silliest pillow talk he'd ever indulged in. But, then, he wasn't sure he'd ever just lain in bad after sex and talked to his partner before at all.

"Good because neither am I." Remus wasn't sure what was different: his feelings for Regulus or the way he saw sex after having to use it to survive. But, the thought of having something brief and casual, as he'd had a few times ins school, wasn't what he wanted. Definitely not with Regulus. Maybe it was just that he was becoming used to the idea that an actual relationship was something he could have. "But, I think I understand what you mean. The wife was a duty, you could hope you'd get along, but you weren't choosing her to fulfil your needs, but the dynasty's. If she turned out to be someone you could enjoy spending time with as well, that was a bonus. But, securing the line quickly was more important than taking time to find a true companion. Is that close?"

"Right, because we can," he said, although that wasn't exactly a reason, especially after the best orgasm of his life. "What you mean is that you put random letters and claim that they are pronounced in the wrong way. You're even more arrogant than the French in reinventing the original sounds that all come from the Greek and Latin alphabet. It's probably why so many Welsh get the spell wrong, can't figure out the Latin," he said with a grin, although he had no knowledge that it was true at all.

Regulus nodded with a serious expression. "Twelve inches it is. We wouldn't want to slack in such an important area of human knowledge." He broke into a smile. "You know that we can try anything we want, but as you said, you might have limits. Not that it's likely that I'll inadvertently cross them, but we can always discuss things as we experiment more."

He had to snort at the explanation. "That's all very insightful and correct, but I meant that just because we want something serious, it doesn't mean that we need to get married in a few months. I didn't want to scare you away with the word marriage. I guess that's the strange part for me, even though it's normal for most. We get to know each other without any obligation or preordained outcome. That would have never been allowed to happen at home. Although, if you think about it, so many of us married so young, even the ones without the family obligations. Maybe we were brought up with that idea. You find someone in school, you get married, and you have children. Harry's generation already raised the age to mid-twenties. His children seem to raise it even more. When you consider how many died, I can see why the Ministry panicked. Although they could have just as easily passed a law making people have children instead of screwing around with spells."

Remus put a hand to his heart and gasped dramatically. "You wound me, Black. Such language snobbery." Putting his arm back around Regulus, -- because it was too nice a sensation, holding him close, not too -- he pressed a teasing kiss to the tip of Regulus' nose. "I can see I'm going to have to brush up on my linguistic origins if I'm going to go toe to toe with you properly."

His grin softened to a war smile. "Most of my boundaries are the result of bad experiences, things that edge toward the more extreme side of rough, which is why I asked you to clarify how rough you wanted it. As long as we talk about the things that bother either one of us, we should be fine. Beforehand, if we can, is best. But, as soon as one of us feels uncomfortable about anything, we talk and we'll be fine. And we should talk about the things we enjoy, too. For example," he said, kissing the side of Regulus' neck, his jaw, then finally his lips, "I really enjoy kissing you."

Remus pressed his lips together briefly, to stifle a renewed grin, but still smiled softly at his new lover. "You wouldn't scare me with the word marriage for precisely that reason. Serious doesn't need to mean marriage soon. And, we're very new. I don't know about you, but I'd like to take my time and enjoy the journey along the way." And he still thought them both too cautious to jump into that kind of long-term commitment after only a couple months. Even if they did turn out to be soulmates, as meant to be as James and Lily, neither was likely to rush into it. "I wonder if that was true of our generation, though. Or, if so many of us looked at the war and rushed to get married before one or the other could get killed. Harry's generation, they were younger than we were when their war came to a head. I'm sure that changed their perspectives." He thought about Harry's children, what they'd learned from having James and Lily's memories, attending lunch for a week. "I wonder how many other marriages were like Harry's, convincing the children it was a bad idea to rush in, due to what they went through. Not that I think you're wrong. I can see the Ministry's fear. Too bad they lost track of all sanity when trying to fix the problem as they saw it."

"I assure you that my snobbery extends well past the boundaries of language and encompasses a great many areas of life," he said, in his finest posh accent. "However, I do believe that you can keep up with me in many areas, even if not in the snobbery department. I shall have to teach you how to be properly snob and everything else will follow."

He shifted so he was only half resting on Remus, an arm resting over his lover's chest. "I doubt that we will need to discuss anything beforehand or during. When I said rough, I didn't mean pain and blood. I'm hardly squeamish and I've witnessed enough torture and blood shedding to know that it's not something that I want during sex." He chuckled at the declaration. "I'm pretty sure I tried to tell you wile drunk."

Regulus shrugged. "As I said, marriage was also meant to be soon for me, but we can be all modern and wait." The other part had him laughing. "Oh, Remus, that's just- it's really funny that you'd think that, because my grandfather and Narcissa's father were children when they got married, and I mean that literally. Black men were married off while in third or forth year to older women, and by older I mean eighteen, nineteen. They'd get married, get the wife pregnant, go off to school while the wife raised the child with her in-laws. That would ensure that the children be properly raised and there was no rebellion. I'm sure Mother regretted not doing it for me and Sirius. We would have ensured that the line continued." He smiled. "As you can see, it wasn't the war for us."

"Is that right?" Remus asked with mock-sincerity, eyes laughing despite the serious mien. "I suppose I shall have to endeavour to be a good student and learn the lessons well, then."

He brushed his fingers through Regulus' hair, still smiling softly. "There's quite a few steps between here and pain and blood. But, it's nothing we need to worry about today. So much to explore. We'll take it as it comes and see where your inclinations lie as you experience more." Chuckling, he nodded. "And so you did. Although, we'll try a little more kissing and a little less drunk next time, I think. Even if you were utterly adorable."

Remus blinked in surprise at the Black family history lesson, then shook his head. Of course they got married while still in school. "I think we can agree that your family is in a class by itself," he replied with a bemused smile. "For the rest of us, I think the war had far more influence. Marriage was something nebulous that came after school and the urgency of the war accelerated that desire. Well," he amended, "for the rest of us who thought marriage a possibility in the first place." The idea he could even have a relationship with another person was still too fresh for him to really see past in the moment, let alone the possibility of marriage at any time in the future. "However, since there isn't much we can do to change the past and I'd much rather focus on our future, did you have any plans for the rest of the day? Or can I persuade you into spending a lazy Sunday with me?"

"The idea of turning a Gryffindor into the perfect snob is alluring. I shall endeavor to be a great teacher," he answered, grinning. He could just imagine his brother's reaction if that happened.

Regulus nodded. "Exactly and I doubt we'll get anywhere near that end of the spectrum any time soon, which makes your idea of waiting perfectly acceptable." He had a feelings that they might never get to that point anyway. "I'd rather not be drunk in public ever again, however it did bring us here so I shan't complain too much."

He chuckled. "We can definitely agree on that, but I doubt we were the only ones. You can see why purebloods were less likely to be worried. They probably were still doing what they needed." But Remus was right, there was no point in talking about the past, not when it was all gone. "I'd be upset if you tried to leave and be productive. A lazy Sunday is the perfect way to spend the day."
