Growing Pains [a long, long time ago] (tag: Freyja)
Thor was not pleased. And when Thor was not pleased, everybody knew about it. Thunder rolled, lighting crackled, furniture was smashed, crockery was smash, and there was a lot of yelling involved. When Thor was upset, it was a rather loud affair.
But how could he not be upset? His girl, his baby girl, his precious little dumpling, had informed him that she was moving out of Bilskirnir. She didn't ask him. She told him. And Thrud had stood her ground as he'd argued to change her mind. Later, he'd be very proud of her for being so strong, but right then he was very, very put out.
And very sad. He was losing his baby girl. It hadn't been as hard with the boys. Maybe because he saw so much of Magni and Modi while he worked. Maybe because Ullr came often enough to see his mother that Thor also saw him regularly. Maybe it was just because they were boys and Thrud was a girl.
But it probably mostly had to do with where Thrud planned to go when she moved out. She said she was moving to Valhalla. With all the glorious dead that drank and fought, day and night. Thor was all for the Einherjar being the rowdy warriors they were. But he had a good idea of how they looked at the Valkyries that provided them mead, and he wasn't about to stand for that happening to his daughter!
Since Thrud refused to be reasonable and budge on her career choice, no matter how loudly Thor yelled, there was only one thing left to do: he had to go speak with Freyja. The Valkyries rod out to collect the fallen warriors, as did Freyja. Half went to Valhalla, half with Freyja to Fólkvanger. So she kept watch over the Valkyries as they worked, she'd be the one looking out for Thrud when she rode with the other choosers of the slain. And she would be looking out for Thrud.
With thunder rumbling in his wake, Thor headed for Sessrúmnir.
