"Once again, I believe you are underestimating her abilities. Did you not teach her to fight, to defend and protect herself?" The Einherjar were known to be boisterous and sometimes less than tactful. They were warriors, true heroes, but they were also Odin's heroes. The were the sort that followed his virtues probably better than Odin himself.
Truth be told, it was just as often the Valkyries that instigated things. Occasionally a line was crossed, but a word was usually all that was required to put someone back in their place. "She will receive not attention she does not desire. You know our ways, and she is a strong woman."
As for wanting something better for Thrud, what did Thor expect? She was a third generation goddess in a realm where there was little left to dish out for important duties. Freyja had been lucky herself. She only got where she was because she had something Odin wanted. If she had not the magical powers he sought, a bargaining chip, she would be no different than Thrud. Worse, actually, as she was not even of Aesir birth. But one could not tell a father that his daughter was too late and not good enough to elevate to a status already claimed by others.
"I, for one, am proud to accept Thrud to the Valkyries. Do you know how few women really have the stuff to be able to ride at my side? But this is not about what I want or what you want, Thor, but about what Thrud wants. She must choose her own path."
