A Done Deal [Ancient, Ancient Greece – Olympus] (tag: Hephaestus)
She was pacing in the bedroom, alone. With each angry step she cursed all the gods on Olympus and a few of the goddesses as well. How dare they just give her away like this. As if she were some trinket that belonged to Zeus. She belonged to no one. Certainly not to that ugly, crippled thing that Hera had born. She had tried to get out of the deal, but Zeus and his Olympian brood could not be convinced. Days like these made her wonder why she had ever backed this lot against the Titans.
It was her own fault. She had agreed to the deal when it was suggested. It had actually been a brilliant plan. Hera had been caught in a trap set by her son, Hephaestus. Dite had no idea why Heph had trapped his mother, and frankly, she didn’t really care. Except that it had upset Ares. She hated seeing her lover upset. That was one of the reasons that she agreed to Zeus’ proposal.
It was suggested that whoever could free Hera from the booby-trapped throne could have Love herself as their wife. Everyone knew that Ares would be the one to free his mother. Because of that, Aphrodite had agreed to the deal. It would be the perfect way for her and Ares to be married.
What could possibly go wrong?
Ares, that’s what. He had failed to free Hera. Aphrodite wasn’t even sure that he got close enough to actually try to break Hera’s bonds. His failure left her up as the prize for just about anyone on this damned mountain. Which naturally meant the one she least wanted was the one that got her.
Hephaestus himself.
The smith had what the mortals called ‘a great personality’. That was code for unattractive. She wasn’t even certain that he did have a great personality. She had never really bothered to talk to him before. He wasn’t the type of company she usually sought out. And he definitely was not Ares.
There was no backing out now. They wouldn’t let her out of the agreement. As if any of them had never broken a promise or lied before. Zeus had declared them husband and wife. So that was it. A done deal. She should just try to make the best of it.
Fat chance.
