Week Thirteen: Tuesday
Who: Rain and Kissy
Where: Zephyr, then the kitchen
When: early evening
What: Rain prepares bait for the mantrap ;)
So far, Rain was completely thrilled by Halcyon. It was on an island, in some ways so similar to the place she'd lived all her life, but different. This was a place where no one knew her, a place where she could be free from the tragedy that hung like a dark cloud over the Haughton name. People seemed friendly; at least, everyone she'd talked to both in person and on the journals had been. She could build her own shiny world here, be anyone she wanted to be. Herself, without anyone else's influence.
She'd gotten all her things unpacked in between posting comments in her journal, and her room was organized just the way she liked it. The special blanket she'd referred to, a soft cashmere fleece throw imprinted with a pattern of stars, was draped over the end of her bed, her window was open with the sheer curtains she'd hung billowing slightly in the breeze, and her closet and dresser drawers were color coordinated. She was a bit of a neat freak, which often surprised people who only knew her by the friendly, bubbly persona she showed most of the world.
Rain had also unearthed from her luggage the bags of chocolate and peanut-butter chips she'd packed; her favorite cookie recipe was a top priority, and she hadn't wanted to wait until she'd have the chance to go to a store on the island and get some. She figured the kitchen would have the rest of the ingredients, but she couldn't necessarily count on them having the chips she liked to use. She put them, along with her room key and her cell phone, in a mesh bag that hooked over both shoulders and headed downstairs, casual in denim cutoffs with butterflies on the back pockets, a scoop-necked sky blue t-shirt, thong sandals and long earrings.
Even when Rain was dressed casually, she put thought into costume and accessories. You never knew who you might run into, was her policy. She believed in putting her best foot forward at all times.
She reached the bottom fourth of the staircase, her long clear-polished nails trailing over the banister, and then impulsively jumped the rest of the way... nearly landing on someone who was rounding the corner. "I'm sorry!" she blurted, appalled and yet unable to resist laughing about it anyway.
