MEME: Veritaserum

VERITASERUM:
Oh no! Your character has been dosed with Veritaserum, and they're compelled to be completely honest in response to anything said to them.

Post a comment with your character's name in the header, and then other characters can come ask them questions, or maybe just engage in some awkwardly truthful chats.

Have fun!

Sy has no subtlety. The only thing you ought to hold against him is that he's not a gentleman.

Some girls are into that, bro. Not everyone wants to be serenaded by the same four dippy hipster songs you use on every chick.

Hey, after I get to know the girl better, I go looking for more specific dippy hipster songs to impress her. I've even got a few I can pull out for you, man. I've known you for ages, and everyone knows music can soothe the savage beast.

Dude, there's a lady here. I don't think it's appropriate to be talking about my savage beast.

One day someone's going to come along and tame it.

Shit, I hope not.

Also, does it really work that way? Seems like no one's ever soothed yours and you're making sweet music all the time.

I don't think music's even a necessary component.

But, you know, one day I'll meet the right girl who I can sing all the sappiest songs to. When I start thinking every love song, no matter how much of a stretch, reminds me of her... that's when I'll know I'm done for. I figure it'll happen eventually. Like, way later eventually.

Dude, I cannot even listen to you. No wonder you can never stick to someone if that's the kind of bullshit going through your head.

Anyway, music's not necessary, seriously? Figured you were so serious about that stuff, you wouldn't date a girl who couldn't like do gross mushy duets with you or whatever.

Shit, it's like... pretentious people like Morales with big glasses and tight jeans who like to say a lot of stuff about how they're sensitive and different and they're probably "artists" who play acoustic guitar or draw owls wearing top hats. Stuff like that.

I am sensitive, and we're all different, right??? And I have degenerative myopia! I need these glasses. And I've never once drawn an owl in a tophat!

But what makes them "hip"? That's strange.

Besides, owls would not like top hats. If an owl chose to wear a hat it would probably be a crown made from a mouse skull.

Fuck if I know. I prefer surfing. But I guess it's like they think they're special because they're nonconformist and don't fit into society? Except they totally do and it's just a joke to see someone like Morales act like he's so deep because he cries when he sings.

Shit, that would be scary awesome. Like the whole skull or would you have to carve out the middle first to make it more crown-like?

Music can be very moving. Even muggle music. I don't play anything but some songs are highly emotional. And surfing looks very frightening, the ocean is so powerful and unpredictable.

Well if you remove the jaw and attach it backwards to the base of the skull it could make a lovely little coronet, and I reckon owls would like that much more than a top hat.

Well he's young, it takes a while for boys to become gentlemen, if they even have the capacity for it. Daddy is always called a gentleman by Mummy even if he always says he wouldn't be without her to guide him, so I think ladies have much to do with it besides.

That's romantic. There's no actual father in my home situation, so I'm not an expert on how that specific familial makeup works. Either way, I'm pretty sure none of the women in my family want the responsibility of guiding me towards gentlemanhood.

That's very sad. But my daddy's father died in the first war, and he turned out to be the very best man that ever was, really. And if your family won't, then that's what marriage is for.

Oh, don't worry about me, it's not so sad. I have three mothers to make up for it, which is really way more mothers than any one person needs. As for marriage... well, I'll see.

What do you think it means to be a gentleman, though?

Well they do say behind every strong man is a powerful woman, or women in this case. Mothers are so important and you are very fortunate.

I'd say it's selflessness, sacrifice, casting off selfishness, living their lives for others as well. Being chivalrous, even if our ideas of chivalry in modern times are very far removed from the truth, I would imagine. Life was much more brutal so long ago.

I am. I love my moms.

I think I understand what you're saying. I feel like all of those things are something you just have to keep working towards. I mean, besides the actual swords and coping with feudal society and dealing with how my lady is dying of plague but our love will transcend tuberculosis.
