MEME: Veritaserum

VERITASERUM:
Oh no! Your character has been dosed with Veritaserum, and they're compelled to be completely honest in response to anything said to them.

Post a comment with your character's name in the header, and then other characters can come ask them questions, or maybe just engage in some awkwardly truthful chats.

Have fun!

...completely honest...?

No! At least, I don't think I'm secretive...

I just mean, no one really likes to say exactly what they're thinking all the time, do they?

I guess not? I usually end up saying whatever comes to mind without magical help, but I think maybe it's better when you don't. Kind of sad, isn't it?

Is it? Some people might say not speaking your mind is sadder than always saying what you think.

It's good you can be so expressive. Um, with your music, I mean.

It really gets you in trouble sometimes, though. By "you" I mean "me". Do you not speak your mind much?

Oh, sure, yeah. Music's great for really tapping into things you feel but can't put words to. Even the lyrics are just symbols, right? Do you get what I mean?

I try to live my life honestly. But... it's as you said, sometimes honesty can hurt people. I'd rather be kind.

Yes! I think so. It's like how in historical fantasy, you're not really going for accuracy, but rather you're using familiar symbols as touchstones for exploring concepts that aren't easily translated in literal terms. Or maybe that trying to put it literally would lose some of the emotion you want to convey.

"Fancy"? Oh, you mean crushes, haha.

Um... when it comes to all the students coming back to school this year, I would say no. No one I fancy.

Yes, sorry, crushes.

Oh?! That's good fine. Although I imagine that'll change at some point. With so many interesting people here, one of them must be your type.

You don't have to say sorry. I like how you phrase things. It reminds me of my family.

I don't know if I have a type. Or rather, I'm not focused on dating, so it's irrelevant. How do you know your "type"?

Family??? Like a little br Is talking to me nostalgic, then?

Well, you start to recognise patterns in the people you've come to like over the years. Maybe you've noticed you tend to like clever students, or tall people. You know, for instance.

You could say that. I haven't been to England in years. It's strange every time I remember I'm British.

I do like clever students and tall people, but maybe it's because I wish I was taller and cleverer? They say you admire most the qualities you wish you had yourself. What is it you "fancy," Calvin?

I thought I'd be fine, but sometimes I get really anxious imagining how we'll be headed into our careers after this. I try not to think about it.

You seem so calm all the time. But I guess I do too.

I really want to enjoy this year. Maybe I'll even go to a party. Haha, look at me, getting wild and crazy.

Is it boring that I want to play another elf paladin? Maybe I should go less lawful good. You know, get really crazy since it's my final year and all.

No shit, never thought I'd see the day! Are you thinking chaotic neutral? Is chaotic evil an option? Go big or go home!

Slow down, slow down. I don't think I could do evil. I like playing a hero too much. But... maybe you're right. Go big or go home. Chaotic neutral could be interesting. It's been a long time since I played a rogue. I could be a thief, even.
