Alternate PB: I tried to use Hayley Kiyoko as Velma, but thankfully Marin shot that down.
How would that have changed them?: I really doubt that Essie's loud mouth WRITING STYLE would have developed!!! Which was definitely inspired by Mina's writing style, but Hayley was just plain super mousey looking. The whole summer makeover plot was also definitely inspired by Lee Hyeri's hair. She would still love CUTE BOYS and PIPPA though.

Plans For Next Year: I'd love for him to open up to someone. Maybe develop some kind of relationship. Find things to truly, openly care about. Other than that, I have no clue! He's a loose cannon and could end up so many ways.
Alternate PB: Scott Michael Foster circa Teenage Dirtbag. I went w Justin Chatwin because there were icons and I wouldn't have to make my own :x Haha. He's grown on me, though.

Plans For Next Year: Win a Quidditch game? Before Sy sacrifices them to the heathen gods. Get her dad to let her walk tightrope blindfolded.
Alternate PB: The idea of a magic circus solidified before Roxie did, so I definitely waffled around with PBs for her for a bit. Thought about Sarah Hyland or Malese Jow. But then Lulu was wearing a tutu and rockin' some Leia buns (like so), so she clearly won that battle.
How would that have changed them?: She probably would have been louder and more obviously girly with the former. And a bit more obviously mouthy with the latter. She evened out into someone who's a bit weird, but generally pretty mellow.

Character Name: Ravi Dhaliwal
Plans For Next Year: Ravi needs to figure out that he is having an internal freakout about a) graduating and leaving this school he really loves, b) not wanting to be a Healer, c) going to the happy beautiful wedding of his high school crush, d) feeling like he's a terrible prefect when literally no one could live up to Ravi's personal standard for prefects, e) feeling like he's a terrible friend because he doesn't do enough to Fix Everything, and f) wanting to kiss Diego. But lol no he's just going to repress all of that.
Alternate PB: No one! Ravi was last-minute; I'd made Mina and Sy and then I realized we needed a mod-played prefect in the game. So I picked a senior prefect from the roster (Ravinder Dhaliwal), which led me to picking a PB I'd always liked (Suraj Sharma).
How would that have changed them?: I think I spent a week with no concept for Ravi, but it came together very suddenly based on a story I heard about LARP Camp and how polished and handsome Suraj Sharma looks in the Life Of Pi press tour. Ravi is based waaaaay more on how Suraj behaves than how on his character behaves in Life of Pi, and that shifted his character to being much more humorous than his original concept. But I recently added some Homeland icons because HELL WHY NOT

Character Name: Mackenzie Prince
Plans For Next Year: More being an awful monster, lbr. But I'd also like for her to get some solid development, be challenged, maybe make an unexpected friend, STUFF.
Alternate PB: This character was designed around Laura Berlin, but I briefly looked at Kirsten Dunst from Strike. But no one gifs that, so I'm just using Bring it On! gifs. In the end, I chose to stick with Laura because she looks so weird and scary and mean.
How would that have changed them?: She would have been a lot less cold, and more warm and """friendly""". A bit more Regina George than weird wannabe femme fatale. But I like Kenzie being an eccentric kind of mean.

Plans For Next Year: He's gotta start figuring out his senior project. His sister's getting married, which will be a Whole Event. She's absolutely insisted that he find himself a date to said wedding, which he does not have the gumption to do.
Alternate PB: I was pretty set on Robert but I very briefly considered Dylan O'Brien also. I wanted Reece to have glasses, which Robert does in a few sets, but those sets have him playing the same character as Diego's PB and it ended up looking like someone wearing a Diego costume to me lmao
How would that have changed them?: He'd be a little more down to Earth but at the same time... slightly less aware of other people's feelings? And more of a douche? just a LIL bit!

Character Name: Riley Stamper
Plans For Next Year: Like, eventually I would like Riley to have to face up to the fact that last year she was the bullied kid crying in the bathroom, and this year she’s just settled right the fuck back into being a cool cheerleader and mean girl. The problem is Riley does not want to learn her lesson. So. Like. lol. We’ll see how that works out.
Alternate PB: Riley’s entire character basically sprang from me going, “SHE IS SO CUTE, I WANT SOMEONE WITH DYED HAIR. :((((((((” So there was no one really but Amanda Arcuri that I was thinking of. But I think she's another character that might have been Malese Jow.
How would that have changed them?: The amount of cutesy stuff would have been, like, drastically reduced. She would probably sound a hell of a lot less like an annoying valley girl cheerleader and more like a normal fucking person. Probably a lot fucking easier to stand. But where's the fun in that?

Plans For Next Year: I PLAN TO FUCKING PLAY HIM. I’ve been doing slightly better lately. I pat myself on the back every time I play him. I shouldn’t. IT’S JUST SO HARD TO PLAY AWKWARD QUIET DUDE SOMETIMES :( Nate, learn how to talk to the girl you like. You’re only doing slightly better. You can’t pat yourself on the back for only doing slightly better, NEITHER OF US CAN.
Alternate PB: I wasted so much time looking for Nate’s PB. Ali was helping me by Googling things like “youtubers from [insert stereotypical redneck state here]” and literally every one I saw had a face I wanted to punch. If I’d seen the icons of Cameron Monaghan from later seasons of Shameless before I probably would have just used him, AND THEN THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO ROBIN. (or just Robin with a different PB, but then who would that be? DO YOU SEE THE ENDLESS STRUGGLE?)
How would that have changed them?: He definitely would have been less serious, more of an actual redneck instead of just a kid from a farm. Josh Hutcherson just has the face of a good kid, you just look at him and you’re like, “Oh, I would trust him to watch my house and dogs for a weekend, what kind of trouble can he get into??”

Plans For Next Year: Work on building friendships outside of Ravi and Rafael (especially with her cabinmates!!). Pay attention to application deadlines. Be a better prefect. (okay no not happening.) Actually keep up with threads with Josie. PROPERLY REPLY TO THE ONGOING RAVI AND SUN-MI LOG.
Alternate PB: I cruised basically all the PBs on ~shibacon and I recall Ryu Sera in her pink coat had made an impression. In the end I picked Kim Ah Young based on an icon I never even use. (...I didn't even realize she was in the same girl group as Essie until some time after she was accepted.)
How would that have changed them?: Honestly, a PB change probably would have led to her being written more like how she actually plays (she's supposed to be more tomboy swagger than cutesy girly). Or maybe the other way around. Sun-mi has a lot of really cutesy icons. The biggest influence on her character though was going for Meggie's suggestion of having her be Rafael's childhood ballet friend. Which I totally jumped on even though I know nothing about ballet or Spanish. (Surprise!)

Plans For Next Year: Oh my god I need him to be more active.
Alternate PB: He was conceptualized as Jack Gleeson, buuuuut I didn't want to use all press release images or period drama images. I ended up settling on Chris Colfer because he also makes some fantastic cranky, bitchy faces. I can't use Glee icons because Calvin dresses like a plain jane 24/7 and hasn't worn a primary color in years.
How would that have changed them?: He would not be so far along in his redemption arc, and he'd be more of an actually nasty person. Then hopefully over the course of the game he'd learn the error of his ways and swear to be a better person. INSTEAD all that happened last year, and this year Calvin's just awkward and pointlessly mad ALL THE TIME.

Plans For Next Year: I plan on having him exist.
Alternate PB: I pretty much only ever planned on using Richard because I discovered him from looking up gifs of Riley’s PB and they smoosh faces on the show. I liked his dumb bleached mohawk. Maybe like Leeon Jones, who has literally only been in Attack the Block, and it would be so fucking in character for me to use a PB from a single movie and it's a dimly lit horror movie.
How would that have changed them?: JEFFY IS OBVIOUSLY VERY NEW, it’s kind of hard to judge this. Probably a little less confident, a little more dorkier. Like, he would have probably been the nerdy kid on the Quidditch team who tags along after the older kids.

Plans For Next Year: I have no idea. More adorableness with Ras? More cheerleading squad goals? SOME DRAMA?!
Alternate PB: I initially held Katie Stevens, but almost immediately changed to Kat. (Even though I'm super mad at how they're doing a lot of the show, I LOVE Mortal Instruments as a book series, and had been wanting to use her for awhile.) She just fit.
How would that have changed them?: Katie would've been a little more high maintenance, since it would've been hard to ignore all her facial expressions or quotes in gifs. She wouldn't have been so sunshiney and Disney and whatnot. Katie is still upbeat, but she has that slight 'oh you're not paying attention to me? I'm mad now' attitude at times.

Character Name: Saira Raza
Plans For Next Year: Can we just torment her a lot with more implications about her and Wilde? There is no plan there whatsoever but it's making me laugh a lot.
Alternate PB: Saira is the only character who I initially conceptualized with a different PB: Ania Bukstein, who is Israeli, which makes her Middle Eastern, so technically...yeeeah. I had a plan to make it work but it wasn't a great plan. But I really wanted Saira to be Muslim and have the hijab feature heavily into her icons/pb/whatever, and it took me a while to find someone who fit that but still looked fairly like what I had in my head, and...yeah ok here we are.
How would that have changed them?: Well, she wouldn't have been Muslim? Which doesn't feature prominently into anything explicit in her behavior but is very important in the background, if that makes sense. Also I think the glasses in the icons of Ania that I would have used, would have made her EVEN MORE HERMIONE-ISH. Less sass, more of a complete lack of humour.

Character Name: Ennis Harper

Plans For Next Year: I lowkey want him to start a student cult based around his belief in the divinity that the Grotto holds. (okay, not a cult-cult but a Group of Believers.) Anddd I want him to develop a lil crush on someone and not know how to deal with it but I want this to develop naturally and not have it set up OOCly.

Alternate PB: I actually made Ennis specifically because I wanted to PB Evan Peters. I very very briefly considered swapping to Dane Dehaan at the last minute because I was frustrated by the lack of varied expressions Evan Peters makes as Tate. (It's always crying or angry faces.) I wanted Dane for no other reason than because I think he's pretty, but I felt he looked too old in the icons I found of him and he looked a bit too serious-minded for the concept I had for Ennis.

How would that have changed them?: Ennis wouldn't have had an Ugly Duckling stage to keep him humble or tear down his self-confidence and he wouldn't have been as much of a nervous wreck or feel the need to minimize himself. Dane looks a lot more polished and put-together than how scraggly and oily Evan looks as Tate, so I think he'd lose a lot of his nervous habits that make him look disheveled. I also think Ennis would've been more intense-creepy than unintentional-creepy? Annnd he would've been more invested in the Dark Arts than just Divination; Ennis only dabbles in it. I wanted an unexpectedly sweet boy though. :^(

Plans For Next Year: ACTUALLY PLAY HIM. (Sara's insanely fast writing speed can be attributed to him seeming semi-active in ic/oocs.) I especially want to interact more with Casey and stop being such a terrible bro. More awkward flirting with Isaiah?? Also continue to slowly refine his icons with stuff that's actually appropriate to how he plays since his icons drive me crazy.
Alternate PB: I started concepting him prior to the mud wrestling event with his "Mouthy Ravenclaw know-it-all 'taking a year off Quidditch'." tagline and was leaning towards Josh Zuckerman, but wasn't entirely sold. And then he took his shirt off with Casey and things got a lot more bromantic and Luke Pasqualino was mostly a self-inguldent choice because I love his face.
How would that have changed them?: He'd just be a full time angry nerd with no faux broing and less benefit of being hot. And no Italian heritage. But he'd probably be less sarcastic and more just boiling quietly under the surface since Josh Zuckerman is way too cute and nice looking? He'd also probably be less gay for Casey. Maybe not.

Alternate PB: Ree is semi-based on a character at Something Wicked, who had a similar honesty-thing and was also a Quidditcher. Her pb was Imogen Poots, who is and remains one of my favourite pbs ever. HER FACE.
How would that have changed them?: IDK, Fiona was less of a partyer and a lot more zen than Ree? Also not an ~artist~ with crazy hair. Though Imogen's hair is the most perfect hair in the universe so she wouldn't have needed to dye it.

Plans For Next Year: GENERALLY MAKE TROUBLE
Alternate PB: A ton of them actually. I flip flopped a million times. I reconsidered Hailee Steinfeld but decided she just looks too darn cute to be a mean girl (SOMEONE SHOULD USE HER THO). In the end Saoirse Ronan was the other frontrunner. Really settled in on that bleached hair/gargoyle eyeshadow aesthetic.
How would that have changed them?: A little less prissy, but still just as awful and aloof. She'd probably be more of a loner than a cheerleader type but I imagine she'd still have fallen in with the mean girls somehow.

Character Name: Ryan Hertz
Plans For Next Year: Continuing on his path to losing self-deprecating behaviors. Learning feelings. Maybe being a little happy?!? GASP.
Alternate PB: No, if I'm being honest, there never was. I basically just changed around some things for a character that I used in a mutant-based game. In that game, his name was Thierry Descouedres and he had the power of disintegration, so he was super sad because he basically thought he was cursed and killed everything/everyone he loved because he could do that with a touch. I didn't change a lot about his personality except adding some wizarding stuff and forming him more to this game, and just substituted cursed mutant powers with an abusive dad who thinks he's evil and needs exorcism. HOW NICE AM I?!

However, since Nick hasn't done a whole lot since Jane By Design, and I have trouble finding pics/icons/gifs, I briefly considered another Shadowhunters PB of Matthew Daddario. Ultimately, I couldn't change him LOL (Though I'm still sad I don't get to use Matthew)
How would that have changed them? Matthew as Alec has WAY more brood power than Ryan does now. But he also smiles more so he'd probably be a little more okay with talking to people without being awkward. Ryan really digs the punkish look too, which Matt doesn't have. He'd also probably be a little grumpier because Matt has the grump DOWN.

Character Name: Casey Patterson
Plans For Next Year: HMM. I'M NOT SURE? Casey was just kind of my whatever character when I apped him. He's at least developed more than I expected (thank God for Cricket). I would love some legit stuff to happen with him but I honestly have no idea what. I know what kind of send-off he's giving Cricket in May so now I just need to figure out what happens in the intervening five months.
Alternate PB: Demetrius Joyette. I wasn't totally sold on him, and then Alex found me Jacob Artist and it was the most perfect.

Also, as far as I remember, Joyette was not shirtless enough to be Casey. It was a very serious and important PB search.
How would that have changed them?: I can't remember the exact changes, but I don't think Casey was as emotionally dumb before changing to Artist. Changes because of using Artist are mostly that he's an adorable asshole, hormones on legs, and he dances constantly. (We have the mistletoe plot to thank for that revelation.) Casey didn't become Casey until I dropped Joyette.

(Basically, using Jacob Artist led to Casey being 50% Jimmy Pesto Jr.)

Plans For Next Year: Um fucking coppertail winning a game like fuck man

But actually, Chris is going into this new year awesome. I expected the distance of Gooseberry fucking up his magic rock to fuck him up but look at him handling his emotions and distancing himself without the need of a rock like a goddamn adult. I expect him to solidify his moving on from levi in the new year too? I mean he feels pretty solid about it ~~he's probably delusional~~ I'm also excited about this ptc shit because his father actually gets to meet people and it's all very exciting you guys
Alternate PB: I'm not gonna lie, i create characters based on pbs and I love Thomas Brodie Sangster. I came to this from Refresh, and over there I had a very aggressive female beater, and when I got invited here I actually contemplated just totally transplanting her because I liked playing her. So I chose the name Chris Park because I wanted an aggressive beater, but I also wanted a senior and Faye was already taken. So me choose coppertale basically cemented my pb choice basically, but chris was almost a female basically.
How would that have changed them?: If I'd just transplanted my other character, she would've been just as aggressive, but she would've been funnier and more obnoxious than Chris, even tho Chris is obnoxious when he starts repeating people. Like he's been repeating Robin a lot, and it's really obnoxious and he needs to stop but he can't because he spent too long on the compound. (tho, i chose this journal because in ANOTHER game i used thomas brodie-sangster, as a mutant with superstrength, who was actually kinda super zen lmfao, but he's tiny so him having superstrength is hilarious to me. DO YOU EVEN LIFT, BRO

Alternate PB: I literally built this character around Eliza. I had other faces in the running, but once I stumbled on her again I was like "I MUST". Although if I had to pick another, I'd probably go with Heather Morris (who I did think about for .2 seconds)
How would that have changed them?: Heather is a bit more flighty, but also seems more competent at times. More sex appeal. AND I COULD'VE MADE HER A DANCER. ;___;

Plans For Next Year: Quidditch. Figuring out boys. Just STUFF. Help me out, guys!
Alternate PB: I wanted to use Lindsay Morgan, actually. But then thought I'd be too trapped with 100 pics (and look, I then made Marilyn) I then went through Francia Raisa, who didn't have enough pics. Ariana Grande. Then Selena Gomez was the runner up before I remembered Cierra from Fosters and BAM. Magic.
How would that have changed them?: If she had been Selena, she would've been a little sweeter for sure. More innocent and victim and sad about her family not caring about her/remembering her really. More on the surface with it instead of the feisty attitude Cierra projects.

Character Name: Cressida Quayle
Plans For Next Year: Ghost hunting & thesis researching. I want her to keep her head down a little more because she was never meant to be a dramatic character but drama is soooo fuuunnn. I'm also hoping we have a Uly in the new year which is VERY EXCITING!!!!!! And maybe the Casey/Cricket Feminist Book Club will finally happen. And maybe Irene will make her a new wand! And maybe she will get some action. I don't know!!! She thinks too much and I think too much about her.
Alternate PB: I was primarily looking for a character with big lips and soft features since Uly was Ansel Elgort at the time. Gonna jump on the 'almost Imogen Poots' train, but I didn't like the coloring of the icon set that seemed most appropriate. Then I settled for awhile on Felicity Jones in Like Crazy AND I'M REALLY GLAD I DIDN'T! (For below reasons)
How would that have changed them?: I thought Cricket was going to be a lot more prim and quiet strength type with a very apparent mask that she took on and off. Which would have been a disaster and she never would have had any REAL conversations with anyone annnnd I probably would have dropped. Holland Roden has such a wonderfully expressive face and a lot of her character is shaped by her inability to hide how she is really feeling, try as she might. I do wish the original icons I found hadn't been all Teen Wolf, because the fear/sarcasm/anger/scolding/thirst emotions of Lydia Martin crept into Cricket more than I had hoped. I think I have icons that suit her a little better now, but in my perfect world Cricket would be Holland's bright emotive face with a British veil and an oversized monogrammed flannel.
