Who: Abby Manning and Caleb West, with an appearance of Carter Manning
What: Walking through the Farmers Market
Where: Union Square
When: Sunday @ 1pm
Status: Complete

"Just keep kicking, just keep kicking," Abby hummed to herself, mocking the little fish from Finding Nemo. It was about the time that the baby was always kicking around, running a never ending marathon. It hurt every once in a while when the baby kicked a little too hard or in the wrong spot but by now, Abby was used to it after so many months of the same routine.

Today, she had decided to take a trip down to the farmer's market in Union Square. It was a crowd pleaser and they had relatively cheap, organic produce that she liked. Carter had come along but he was off some where either on his phone or looking at something she wasn't interested in. Abby wasn't too worried about losing him in the huge crowd - she could always text him if something went wrong or if she really needed him.

Abby was eyeing a stand that had rows upon rows of strawberries when a sharp pain shot through her. It felt like someone had just stabbed her in the back. The bag she had full of fresh produce dropped to the ground and she clutched her stomach with one hand, her other hand bracing herself against the table with the strawberries on it. She had bumped into a few people with her baby bump when she so abruptly doubled over and one of them turned to see why they'd been shoved by her. "Are you okay, ma'am?"

Even though he had been out of jail for almost a year now it was still weird walking around and having it be okay that he was seen. When he was in Hellfire he had to make sure that he and his team were never seen. Now...it was just weird. People passed him some with indifference some with smiles and then some smiles given to him by lovely ladies. Whatever it was still weird. Also the weirdness was that he partially still didn't want to be seen, but not for reasons of security or what-not. It was just that ever since getting out he hadn't exactly reconnected with everyone he abandoned when he joined Hellfire. Sure Alice and Tommy knew, they were the first he told. But there were a few friends who didn't know and he would hate to run into them and get chewed out in public.

A farmer's market seemed like a relatively safe place to not get spotted. The people he knew weren't really the type who would go to a farmer's market...at least they weren't when he knew them and that was about ten years ago...wow...he was old. Suddenly he heard a jostling noise and a few surprised and concerned murmurs. Instinct of not being noticed shot through him and he was about to shoot away when someone bumped into him, hard. Almost knocked him over, but he managed to catch himself. He looked over to see a blonde woman...a pregnant woman who seemed to have doubled over. Girl were always his soft spot, when they were in trouble or distressed he wanted to help. Mostly because he knew if that girl was his sister he'd want someone to do that for her. He wanted good karma or some shit especially after all the crap he did.

"Are you okay, ma'am?" Caleb knelt down to help the woman up and that is when he saw her face. Abby Chase...his ex-girlfriend...the girl he dumped by letter then disappeared...shit.

Abby clenched her teeth together as the pain started to subside. She had no idea what the problem was but hopefully it was just a swift kick from the baby, to the wrong part of body. Or perhaps her body finally was giving out and her frame was just too small to be getting so big, so fast. Millions of possiblities ran through Abby's head as people helped her to straighten up and get resituated, including the possibility that she was going into labor. Luckily Manhattan had several hospitals all over the place, including one right on the edge of Union Square, so if she had to go to the hospital, she could call Carter to come find her and they could go.

But the pain subsided and she straightened back up, turning to look at the man who had asked if she was okay. She was about to answer him but stopped and just stared at him, her mouth slightly agape. This had to be a practical joke. Someone was surely messing around and projecting some sort of illusion, or maybe it was just someone who looked a lot like Caleb. That must be it! She was just imagining it was Caleb and really it was just some innocent guy who looked like him.

Abby blinked a few times and then realized she was just staring at the man. "Uh.. um... yeah, I'll be okay." She braced herself against the table of strawberries again and bent down slightly to grab the bag that she had full of groceries.

Caleb tensed when he saw the look on Abby's face when she met his eyes. Shit...she recognized him...shit oh shit....he braced himself for a slap or to go partially deaf as she screamed at him but no. She just said that she was okay, she stumbled a bit over the words but besides that nothing. He was stunned. Did she really not recognize him? While he knew he should be relieved he was actually a bit put off by the fact. They dated for a while and he had cared for her and he thought she cared for him. Did their time together really mean nothing to her? Well, sure, while they were together he was partially convinced that she was still hung up on her ex. That Manning fellow, mr hotshot director now. Maybe the two got back together, maybe he was the one who knocked her up. Oh crap...Abby was pregnant, he felt kind of stupid that the fact that she was not only Abby but a pregnant Abby until that moment. Sure before she was just some blonde pregnant chick but the minute he saw it was Abby the thought of the woman being pregnant sort of vanished from his mind. Wow, Abby was pregnant, about to pop by the looks of it. Weird.

"You should be more careful, wouldn't want to harm the little bun in your oven," he then turned to leave then stopped. 'Screw this, she doesn't recognize me, I'm just gonna remind her,' Caleb thought before turning back to her, "So...long time huh? Who knocked you up?"

Abby gave Caleb a confused look. She hadn't launched herself into the crowd at the stand for the fun of it and she certainly wasn't the one kicking her kidneys like they were soccer balls. The baby was doing more damage to her than she had done to the baby by a long shot, in Abby's opinion. Abby wasn't about to unload all of that on to Caleb though and opted to just shrug it off. "Um.. yeah, I'll watch out next time." It sounded more like a question than a statement but apparently it was enough to get him to leave. With his back turned, Abby rolled her eyes and turned back to the fruit.

And then he was talking to her again. Abby put the fruit down and turned back to Caleb, resting her free hand on her bump. She gave him an annoyed look and then slapped him across the face. As she slapped him across the face, she absorbed his power and grew even more annoyed. Instead of saying anything though, Abby just turned to walk away. It'd be better if she didn't make a scene and didn't look like the crazy pregnant lady at the market. She also knew that if word got out that she had made a huge scene with some random guy in the market and someone at the press found out, it'd likely be all over the papers and Carter would get annoyed too.

"Go away, Caleb," she said over her shoulder as she moved on to the next stand.

Now there was no way that Caleb was insinuating that she purposely threw herself into a crowd of people. But still, being as pregnant as she looked she shouldn't be in such a place. Not like confined to the house like they did way back in the day, but maybe not go to a crowded farmer's market. Some people were ruthless when it came to getting the best looking produce and would push down a pregnant woman without hesitation. He expected a snarky comeback from Abby since that is what he was used to so he was surprised when all she did was agree to him...somewhat.

He was expecting that slap and he knew he could have stopped her if he wanted to but she had every right to slap him. He did leave without warning and all he left her was a letter saying that he was breaking up with her. No word about where he was going or what he was doing or why, just a break up letter. Now Caleb did feel bad about it afterwards, even more so now. He deeply cared for Abby and if he would have asked her to go with him to join Hellfire if he didn't know what kind of person she was. She wasn't the type to support violence to solve problems, also with her sister locked up in the loony bin she would never leave her. He continued looking to the side, where his head had snapped to at her slap, for a few seconds and only turned back when she told him to go away. And she had used his name so if the slap wasn't just the violent act of a crazy pregnant lady, she knew it was him.

"Now I would go away but you didn't answer my question, who knocked you up? You and your ex hook up again?" He had noticed a ring on her finger...a honker if he did say so himself. Then he paused for a moment as a horrifying thought came to him, "...you're not pregnant because of something...bad happening...right?"

Abby turned her back to Caleb and started looking at all of the fresh flowers on the neighboring stand. She started smelling all of the flowers and tried to ignore his presence but he was persistent. Without turning to look at him, Abby coldly responded. "You're my ex," she stopped to smell a few sunflowers. "So no. I didn't hook up with my ex."

She started chatting with the florist, asking her to arrange something with wildflowers that were purple and green, and then to mix in some sunflowers for her. When the florist agreed that it would look nice, Abby smiled, proud of herself for coming up with something girly but pretty, and rubbed her bump as if that would share the good news. Her moment was cut short when Caleb kept talking. She couldn't help but take in a deep breath and turn around to face Caleb, clearly annoyed.

"Since when do you care about my well being?" Abby rolled her eyes and turned back to the florist, handing her money and taking the flowers. "Just... go away, Caleb."

Caleb let out a little chuckle about how peeved she was at him. Sure he knew he deserved it but he couldn't deny that it was a little funny that he had just be slapped and now being spoken down to by a little pregnant woman. Damn, she was huge, what was she carrying triplets? He nodded, "Yep you're right I am your ex, and I assume by that response you and that Manning fellow rekindled whatever it was you had. Now you're gonna pop with the kids. Shit Abs, you having triplets or did you just enjoy the fact that you can eat whatever the hell you want?"

He knew he was being mean but that was just the way he could divert from actually telling her how sorry he was for leaving her like that. Also how he did it for her and that he was still sort of crazy for her. How it killed him to see her like that, rubbing her baby bump, showing him that he had blown any chance he had with her. Had she merely been dating Manning again or even married he wouldn't hesitate trying to win her back, but she was having a kid...Manning's kid. He wouldn't break up a family, then he would really be scum.

Ouch, when she snapped about when did he start caring about her well being, that stung. He should have just turned and walked away, done as she asked but even though he knew that he would never have a chance with her again and it probably was far too little to late he had to say it. "I'm sorry Abs, but believe me I left for you. I was going someplace you couldn't follow, you wouldn't want to. I had to do what I thought I had to do. I now know it was wrong and I'm trying to make amends. I'm sorry for leaving you but I thought it was for the best. Now I see it was, the life I'm living now I wouldn't wish on anyone. You deserve the life you have, a good life, a good husband who can give you everything you could possibly want, and a baby on the way. I know this is probably much to late but I just want to say I'm sorry and I'd love to be friends with you if you can forgive me. But if you want me to leave I'll leave now and you'll never have to see me again."

Abby placed the flowers in her bag and crossed her arms over her baby bump as Caleb kept talking to her. Perhaps the best approach to this was to just talk to him, get it over with and then move on with her day and find Carter. He'd find a way to make her day much better, even if it was just by making her laugh at a joke about ewoks in pockets. Of course things had to get worse before they got better though, and Abby pursed her lips when Caleb started poking fun at how big she was. She knew that she had blown up like a balloon and she didn't need this asshole point it out. It warranted another slap firmly across his face again. "I'm over eight months pregnant, you asshole. And I didn't gorge myself on food. You know should remember how tiny I am. It shows a lot more than on regular-sized people."

She shook her head disapprovingly and slung her bag over her shoulder. The pain from being on her feet for so long was starting to set in, so Abby made her way over to the benches that lined the park and took a seat. She didn't care if Caleb followed her or not, but she needed to sit down or else her feet felt like they were going to explode at any minute from having so much excess weight on them.

Of course, Caleb followed her though and kept gabbing away. Abby listened and set her bag down on the ground, next to the bench. It sounded like he was trying to make himself out to be a martyr, to Abby. But he had said he was sorry a bunch of times, and deep down Abby knew that he wasn't as big of a douche bag as he was coming off to be right now. She was still bitter about the whole situation but truth be told, she was better off without Caleb weighting her down and now she was so much happier with Carter back in her life and a baby on the way in less than a month.

Still, Abby crossed her arms over her chest and rested them on her baby bump. Without looking at Caleb, she spoke evenly to him. "Sit down." She paused for a moment to decide what she wanted to say next. She wasn't going to forgive him. He hadn't done anything to deserve her forgiveness yet. If anything, Caleb had only fueled the fire by insulting her even more. "Where did you go?" Another quick pause. "Why did you go?"

And there was another slap...once again he knew he deserved it. So...eight months she was about to pop, and she was always tiny so it makes sense that she'd look bigger than someone who was normal sized or larger than normal. There was a reason why all those chick on "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" were whales. But he realized to focus back on the situation and turned his head back to look at her.

Like Abby thought Caleb followed her, he needed her to listen, to understand. He was relieved when she commanded him to sit, at least she wasn't running...or I guess she'd be waddling...away or blowing some rape whistle, that would be all he needed. They'd take one look at his ankle monitor and he'd be back in jail. He wasn't sure if GUARDIAN would be able to get him out. He was on an extremely short leash, thus the reason for the ankle monitor. Only Adrian could shut it off and he had only specific places where he could go. It could only be altered by written requests submitted a month prior and verified by two different agents.

Caleb sat down quickly next to her and she started the questions. When he left he didn't want to tell her to protect her but now there was no harm...he hoped. No...he was sure, if she was with Manning he had enough money to make sure she was always safe. He took a deep breath,

"I joined Hellfire...I went because what Enders said in the rally made sense, it was all the things I had been feeling about norms. That they should fear us not the other way around. I didn't tell you because I couldn't ask you to come with me and I knew you wouldn't...you couldn't. You hate violence and also you would never leave your sister. I didn't tell you so you'd be safe. I hurt you to protect you Abs."

Abby sucked in a sharp breath when he said he had joined Hellfire. She had half a sense to slap him again but Abby refrained. There had been enough slapping for one day and she didn't feel like reaching across her entire body just to give him a piece of her mind. Plus, people would probably start to wonder why she was such an angry pregnant lady.

"So you had a death wish," Abby corrected, when Caleb started talking about agreeing with Seth Enders' philosophy on mutants. It only angered her more that he had run off to go join those assholes, rather than leaving her for something like a trip to Africa to save starving children or to transfer colleges even.

"I didn't need your protection," she said rather bitterly. Her own power was rather handy, as long as she could get her hands on the right power at the right time. Growing up on Frye Island knowing a vast majority of the kids with powers made that relatively easy for Abby though.

"You could have at least asked me to go instead of deserting me. And Alice. And Tommy. And your parents."

Caleb heard as she sucked in a breath. She was angry just as he knew she would be, that was the reason why he didn't tell her when he left. When she said he had a death wish,

"Well it's hard to have a death wish when you can't be killed...well...mostly." He ran a hand through his short hair and tried to bite back on his anger at his next statement, "Yes you do Abs, you needed it then and you need it now. I'm not saying Hellfire would have gone after you but I thought that the Government would have, they would have made you talk, make you tell them where I was and I wasn't going to put you in that situation. I now know that I was wrong, we don't torture. But Hellfire wants me dead but I know your husband has enough money and influence to keep you safe so I'm not worried also...you have my power now...you're pretty much indestructible...you're welcome."

"Come on Abs, you would be saying the same shit then as you said now," Caleb let out an exasperated laugh, "joining Hellfire was for someone with a death wish. You would have said no and then tried to talk me out of it. Also if anything ever happened to me I wanted you to be able to create your own reason on why I left. And Alice and Tommy knew...they didn't know where I went or what I did but they knew I was leaving and that nothing they could say would make me stay or change my mind." He cut her off when she mentioned his parents, "My parents, I could care less what they think. They had children for the primary reason to be their little science experiments, fuck them, I cut ties with them years ago. I'm a grown ass man and they have no power over me anymore. So honestly Abs, I don't care what they think or how they felt when I disappeared."

"Of course you can be killed," Abby snapped back. "Don't tempt me to find a way." She bit the inside of her cheek to refrain from saying something she'd regret. All any one seemed to do for her was try to protect her. Carter was getting protective with the baby on the way now; her sister had always tried to protect her from what happened with their mom; Grace withheld Carter's phone number and address from her until she nagged at her for months. Abby was tired of people thinking she needed their protection.

"No, you don't torture. You just want to round us all up and use as a weapon. I know people like us have to go in when ever the government calls on them." She glared at Caleb as if he was the one personally responsible for it. Abby had been called on a few times already since leaving the island and it was a pain in the ass but she went, rather than fighting it. She hadn't told anyone, as it was before Carter and her had gotten back together, but she knew that the government got what they wanted, when they wanted it.

"I don't want your stupid power," Abby said angrily at Caleb. "I don't need it. I'll find something more useful." Truth was, Abby didn't really remember how to use his power and it wasn't something she wanted to remember. It would just anger her all the more and bring back memories from when they were together.

She looked away from Caleb when he starts going off on her about Alice and Tommy knowing that he was leaving. "So that makes it all okay, then? Because you've got some stupid complex over what your parents, what all of our parents did to us?" Abby rolled her eyes and shook her head disapprovingly. "Get over yourself. You say you're a grown man but you act like a five year old."

"Well no shit I can don't you think I know that and that thought kind of terrifies me...also Hellfire knows that and they won't stop until they find out what that way is," Caleb glanced over at Abby and lowered his voice to a whisper so only she could hear, "how about I save you some time...poison...my body fights against it since it knows it's wrong and tries to adapt to it until it dissipates, the more deadly the longer I'm out of commission and during that time I'm susceptible to any other attack." He pulled back and brought his voice back to a normal level, "there you go...now you know how to kill me, but I trust you Abs, and even though I know right now I'm pissing you off to no end I know you really don't want me dead. We were good together while it lasted, you can't deny that."

"I'm not part of that government...the section I'm a part of is a bit different. Not many people know about it, we keep to the shadows, they just started using our kind to help. We're the ones who make sure you and all the norms and mutants are safe...we are the ones who are trying to bring Hellfire down. I don't think you realize how dangerous Hellfire is now...since Enders left. The new guy in charge it psychotic...he would nuke this whole city and not bat an eyelash, at least Enders had some restraint and didn't want our kind caught in the cross fire."

"Well if Hellfire does decide to nuke us you'll be happy to have it...you and I might be the only ones to survive. I'm pretty sure we could survive a nuclear blast...the radiation poisoning might put us down for a bit but...who knows...personally I don't want to find out," Caleb let out a breath and leaned his head on the back of the bench.

"I don't have a complex about it, I'm just saying I didn't tell them where I went, I cut ties with them completely when I left Frye Island," he rolled his eyes, "fine I'm a five year old you wanna be my mommy Abs?"

"Death terrifies the oh-so-macho Caleb West?" Abby gasped, mocking Caleb. "And here I thought you were a big, tough man." She poked the muscles in his arm to emphasize her point. "I'll have to experiment on you and figure out which poisons work best. I am a biology professor afterall." A sadisctic grin spread across Abby's face. Pay back could certainly be a bitch but Abby would never do something like that. The kids from Frye Island knew what it was like to be a human test subject and Abby would never want to subject someone else to something like that. "We were so good together, in fact, you left me." Abby was again mocking Caleb's logic. "Yes, that makes perfect sense," the sarcasm was nearly tangible in her statements. She just rolled her eyes at Caleb again. He was only digging himself a deeper hole when it came to Abby's opinion of him.

Abby looked at Caleb, clearly annoyed with him still. "He's not stupid enough to nuke the entire city. There are too many useful mutants here. He wouldn't sacrifice this many of us." She had assumed that much was common sense to Caleb but apparently she was assuming too much from him. Abby understand the gravity of the situation either way though and had considered moving from New York City. Too many civilians living in NYC for Hellfire to attack was something she was riding on though. It made her cringe at the thought of being under attack at the hands of those imbiciles and Abby wrapped her arms around her bump as though that would protect the baby.

"And who ever else has the same power as you. You're not the only one with the ability to adapt, Caleb." She didn't know exactly who else had the same power as Caleb but it was safe to assume that he wasn't the only one with the power, since even Abby's power wasn't just unique to her.

Abby turned and looked at Caleb, disgusted at the thought of being his mother. "You're a disgusting pig. Some things never change." She pulled out her phone and texted Carter. He'd been so insistent on coming to the market with her and yet he wandered off without her. Right about now she wanted him to come and beat the shit out of Caleb so they could leave.

"Well I think death would terrify anyone especially if for several years it has been presumed that nothing could kill them. Also I hate being the reason that innocent lives may be lost so Hellfire can test out different ways to kill me. You know, caught in the crossfire." Caleb's expression darkened at that thought, that first bombing always haunted him. He had been there he had been close, he could have shielded those people but he didn't. He just stood there, he froze like a coward. He shook the feeling off not wanting to start brooding in front of Abby. Not let her see how messed up he still was. He forced out a little laugh, "and what are you talking about I am a big tough man. And please no experiments, I do have this thing about being a human test subject, as do you I assume."

"Damn it Abby," he almost shouted at her comment about him leaving her. He took a breath trying to calm down and said in a harsh whisper, "I told you why I left you, kay? I thought that I was protecting you, I thought I was doing this for everyone from Frye Island. And I was wrong, so sue me I was wrong, you think I'm no paying for it, trust me I am." He slightly pulled up his pant leg to show the active ankle monitor, "Can't go anywhere outside a twenty mile radius without proper clearance. My family has to come to me if they want to see me. Trust me I'm paying for it." He threw the pant leg down again still fuming but trying to tone it down. Shouting at a pregnant lady was not something he wanted to get noticed for.

Caleb gave a little chuckle when she tried to say that Kevin wouldn't nuke the city. "You'd be surprised what lengths he'd go to, to get rid of me. It's not just my power it's my knowledge, I was pretty close to the top when I was still in there, I knew a lot of info that could be damaging. So trust me, he's desperate and crazy enough to do to. Sacrificing powers or not...new ones are being born every day...it would only be a matter of time." He knew he didn't have to go that far in depth when he saw Abby wrap her arms around her stomach. She had to understand how dangerous Hellfire truly was...how even more dangerous it had become once Enders got out.

He nodded at her logic, "True, I might not be the only one, I haven't heard of another, but maybe they're still just a kid...not registered yet."

Caleb let out a big laugh when she called him a pig, "Hey you're the one who called me a fucking five year old. And you know I was just messin' with you Abs, jeez pregnancy must have made you super touchy." He eyed her thumbs typing a message...probably to Manning and he really didn't want to get in a brawl, especially with someone who was almost as indestructible as him. So he stood up from the bench, "Okay I get it, so I guess your answer is no to the friendship, I'll go, I won't bother you again, don't need to call your hubby over to teach me a lesson. But if you change your mind," he pulled out one of the cards they gave him and scribbled his number on the back, "here's my number, and I'm not trying to hit on you if that's what you're thinking, just a friend to a friend...if you and Manning ever get some Hellfire threats let me know."

Abby chuckled a little when he said that he had issues with being experimented on. Everybody from Frye Island had issues with that; Abby wasn't stupid. But the thought of payback was entertaining at least. Still, Abby would never use Caleb as a human lab rat, nor was she going to treat him like one of those monkeys in Hellfire or one of those robots in the government.

She jumped a little when Caleb yelled at her and the baby started doing somersaults as her heart momentarily started to race. Abby didn't say anything at first but then she smiled. "You were wrong," she was half questioning it, and half stating it. "You admitted you were wrong." She laughed a little and sporadically pulled his face over, planting a big kiss on his cheek. Abby looked like someone who had just won the lottery. If she wasn't going to take ten minutes to get up, she'd jump up and do cartwheels. She was just glad he had finally admitted that he was wrong, even though he'd probably just roll his eyes at her.

When Caleb suggested that Abby had grown touchy while being pregnant, she balled up her tiny fist and punched him in the shoulder. It didn't do much damage, if any at all, but it felt good at least. Abby watched as Caleb got up and her brow furrowed. "You don't have to go." She bit the inside of her cheek as she was thinking of how to answer his questions. "I mean, we're not friends. But you don't have to go." She sent the text and then put her phone back in the pocket of her dress along with the card with his number on it. "I won't need to call you. I have your power, remember?" Abby winked at him and folded her hands over her bump.

Caleb smiled slightly when he heard Abby chuckle slightly. He had always liked that he could make her laugh. However, that made him remember how cold and distant he was their last few weeks together. He rarely made her laugh then. He was so focused on deciding to join Hellfire, and how to tell everyone. Deciding that he thought it was best to just cut ties with everyone and leave. Rip the band-aid off quickly.

Caleb's eyes widened and his body froze in shock when he felt her warm lips on his cheek. Although he'd deny it later his cheeks flushed...on no...oh hell no...he was not blushing...he was a man...a tough guy...a guy who could carry a gun...he didn't blush. He glanced over to Abby and tried to smile back at the wide smile she gave him. He relaxed into his smile and the blush completely faded after a few moments. Really? Him admitting he was wrong made her that happy. Guess he should always take the blame if it leads to reactions like that from girls. He chuckled at that thought and knew she'd probably playfully smack him had he said it aloud.

Caleb was all ready to leave but was surprised when she stopped him and he turned back with a confused look on his face. He crossed his arms and listened to her talk. He chuckled, "Well you have it now, might come in handy when your little one comes out...a bit better than your hubby's power...I imagine that would be painful and dangerous. Give me a call when it happens, I can stop by quickly so you can take it again. Least I can do. But I really should go, got to check it with my partner let him know that the market was safe today and see if Tommy or Alice want to visit tomorrow."

Abby could feel his body tense when she kissed him on the cheek in such an exaggerated fashion but she didn't care. Obviously it was nothing special or romantic on her end, and yet he was blushing by the time she pulled away. She probably should have said something but instead, Abby just ignored it and re-situated herself and smoothed out her dress so that it wasn't botched up beneath her bump. Things like this were better left swept under the rug anyways.

She grimaced as the thought of having impenetrable skin while giving birth surfaced in her mind. There'd be no way to get the baby out naturally, or via Cesarean section either as the doctors would have no way of cutting her skin open. It'd be dangerous and painful and scary to boot. "I don't want to think about that." She nodded at his suggestion of calling him when the baby was about to be born. Maybe she'd call him. Or maybe she'd just call Alice or her sister. Their powers were relatively harmless just like Caleb's could be.

Abby nodded again when he said that he had to leave. "It's okay. I get it." She braced herself against the back of the bench with one hand and pushed herself up with the other, using the arm of the bench as leverage. A slight bend backwards and her bags were in her hand as well. She bit her lower lip, trying to think of how to say good bye. Finally, Abby smiled ever so slightly and held out her hand to shake Caleb's. "I'll be seeing you." She didn't like saying good bye unless someone was dead, even if Caleb had said it to her before.

As soon as she was saying good bye to Caleb, she heard her name being called. Abby looked around and spotted Carter fiddling with his phone. She slung the bags over her shoulder and made her way over to Carter, slipping her free hand into his free hand and trying to reach up on her tip-toes to kiss him on the cheek. She only made it to the top of his neck but it was good enough for her, considering the extra weight she was toting around. "Get anything good?"

Before they started walking, Abby looked over her shoulder at Caleb, smiled and then waved good bye to him.

Caleb noticed how it was a little awkward after she kissed him, but honestly it was the last thing expected. Also she was the last girl he had been with and...had never really gotten over her. He was still crazy about her but seeing her sitting there all married and pregnant he knew he missed his chance and he had to let her go. It was the only way he'd be happy. Make the feelings go away and find his own "Carter"...but a girl Carter...not a dude...he SO didn't swing that way. Whatever this mini argument in his mind was not helping anything but whatever Abby was talking.

"Yeah I can see why, but still the offer stands, you have my card. I'll let the ankle police know that I might be rushing off for that...they're usually pretty cool about it." And they were, rescuing a damsel in distress or better yet making sure her baby didn't die inside of her because it couldn't get out was even better. Who know maybe her baby ends up being like the most powerful mutant ever and could bring all the anti-mutant pro-mutant mumbo jumbo to an end. End all this fighting...it could bring world peace. Maybe he was putting too much important on her baby, but...you never know.

Caleb grimaced and almost moved to help Abby up but she was all about not needing his protection so he let her do it herself, "It's not you Abs, but I gotta let Adrian know that no attacks happened...I wasn't really just wandering around a farmer's market for jollies. Not to scare you or anything, we just make sure crowded places that aren't really super guarded are checked out regularly." He smiled and he glanced at her extended hand then took his and shook it gently.

He glanced to where she glanced...Carter Manning...he knew it...still as dorky as ever...and still taller than him...well...Carter's hair was taller than him. He smiled sadly at the picture the two of them made as she slipped her hand into his and went up to kiss him. That could have been him but he had been stupid and ran off to join Hellfire. He gave a wave back to her then turned and walked back to his apartment. He would quickly shoot Adrian an e-mail and put off calling Alice and Tommy until tomorrow. Tonight he was going to sit down and have a drink and be the moody drunk that he had been since his release. He would drink and brood about all he had lost because of Hellfire. He would reaffirm his vow that he would not rest until Hellfire was brought down and all those who thought it was right or just would realize how wrong they were. Then they could face this hell that he was in...at least then he wouldn't feel so alone in this. And that would give him at least a little comfort.

Carter was in a good mood looking over small charms that he was thinking about getting Abby when...that...happened. His phone rang...and the caller id said...Jeffery. Carter groaned. Whenever Jeffery called it was never good news. Something was wrong and he didn't know how to handle it, which meant that he had to call Carter on how to handle it.

After a long yelling phone call with Jeffrey about how Chen was NEVER going to happen how it was going to be Challison he tried to calm himself and inadvertently removed key parts of his incognito outfit. His hair tipped them off...he had fangirls who apparently though the bedhead look was sexy. They had...nerdgasms over it apparently...he had read that word in a magazine one time in regards to him and was severely disturbed but the word stuck in his brain. So after signing a couple of magazines he put back on his baseball cap and glasses.

He went back to the stand to look at his gift for Abby when his phone beeped. Abby was asking him to find her...now...she was over by the benches and apparently she needed him. His eyes widened...was she in labor...no it was too soon. Well...not that soon...it could still happen...no...he wasn't ready...the room wasn't ready. He texted back saying he was on his way. He made pretty good time and at first didn't see her and started to text her again when he saw a small blonde talking to some guy.

"Abby," he called out. The woman turned and there she was...she seemed fine...and who was that guy. A small twang of jealousy shot through him...he shouldn't be though. She was his wife...she was carrying his child...she came home every night and shared his bed...well...he guessed it was their bed...but whatever...she was his...and no tough leather jacket wearing doofus was gonna take her away from him.

He barely noticed Abby coming over to him and kissing his neck. His eyes stayed fixed on the man she had been talking to...he knew him...from somewhere...but where. Then it hit him when Abby waved back to him and the man raised his hand in return wave. His jaw dropped as Abby and he started walking away. Not realizing she asked a question about what he got,

"That was Caleb West...your ex...what the hell did he want...did her hurt you Abs, what about the baby, if he hurt you or the baby I'll...I don't know but something...something...I don't even know." Caleb West was a giant douchebag. He was a bully in high school and then disappeared in the middle of college...he remembered him dating Abby since when he saw that she was dating Caleb that was when he deleted her off his friends page...he didn't want to see pictures of the girl he loved with the guy he had hated in high school...and he hated him even more now. He glanced back to see Caleb still watching them. Carter glared and put and arm over Abby's shoulder pulling her closer to him.

Once they were a little ways away, "I was gonna get you a present but I got distracted by Jeffrey being Jeffrey and I ran into some fangirls. It's okay they just wanted autographs."

Abby immediately picked up on how Carter hadn't responded to her trying to kiss him on the cheek and only making it to the crook of his neck. She didn't think that he would care if she talked to another guy. Afterall, Carter was the one that she was married to, and it was his baby that she was carrying right now. Surely, he wouldn't be so immature as to get jealous over her talking to someone like Caleb.

Clealy, Abby's thought process was wrong though, because immediately Carter started to question her. It was cute how defensive he was getting over something like a quick chat that she had with Caleb. She snorted in response and then quickly put a hand over her mouth to try to stifle the giggles that escaped after. "He didn't want anything. We're fine," she rested her free hand on her bump protectively. "You should probably be asking if he's okay though. We kind of stumbled into him and I slapped him a few times." Abby smiled sheepishly up at Carter, trying to act like she was innocent. "You're cute when you get all flustered and angry, by the way."

She rolled her eyes at the mention of fangirls asking for autographs. So much for a low key, casual shopping expedition to the damn market. Abby didn't say anything about the girls though. "You're too mean to Jeffrey."
