Now there was no way that Caleb was insinuating that she purposely threw herself into a crowd of people. But still, being as pregnant as she looked she shouldn't be in such a place. Not like confined to the house like they did way back in the day, but maybe not go to a crowded farmer's market. Some people were ruthless when it came to getting the best looking produce and would push down a pregnant woman without hesitation. He expected a snarky comeback from Abby since that is what he was used to so he was surprised when all she did was agree to him...somewhat.
He was expecting that slap and he knew he could have stopped her if he wanted to but she had every right to slap him. He did leave without warning and all he left her was a letter saying that he was breaking up with her. No word about where he was going or what he was doing or why, just a break up letter. Now Caleb did feel bad about it afterwards, even more so now. He deeply cared for Abby and if he would have asked her to go with him to join Hellfire if he didn't know what kind of person she was. She wasn't the type to support violence to solve problems, also with her sister locked up in the loony bin she would never leave her. He continued looking to the side, where his head had snapped to at her slap, for a few seconds and only turned back when she told him to go away. And she had used his name so if the slap wasn't just the violent act of a crazy pregnant lady, she knew it was him.
"Now I would go away but you didn't answer my question, who knocked you up? You and your ex hook up again?" He had noticed a ring on her finger...a honker if he did say so himself. Then he paused for a moment as a horrifying thought came to him, "...you're not pregnant because of something...bad happening...right?"
