Who: Sasha and Nico
Where: Silver Shores
What: A walk and a talk
When: Evening
Rating: Low

Her mother was going to kill her. That much was certain.

Sasha's mind was in a daze. Normally, she would have spent hours, if she could, picking out the perfect outfit, styling her hair and wearing just the right amount of makeup. But that was if she was going out with friends or on a date. Sasha was sure this was not a date. She still wished she could have more time. The note in Nico's journal sounded urgent, if notes in journals had such feelings. Sasha figured it was urgent anyway just because of Nico's brother's latest entry. She hadn't done more than skim over it to see if the name of someone she cared about appeared on it anywhere. Since she couldn't find one, she left it alone, not wanting to torment the poor boy any further. It was bad enough he was going to get jumped on for saying the truth. That was the protocol for anyone who did that around here.

Sasha was keen on speaking truthfully herself. It was a good thing though that she didn't have terrible things to say about anyone. If the situation presented itself, however, she could muster up a few choice words if only to defend the honor of someone she cared about. As she tossed on layer after layer of clothing, Sasha realized with a tiny smile that Nico's name had made its way onto that list of people she would probably fight for if it came to that. Finally, after wasting a good ten minutes pleading with her mother and having to promise that Mari stay in the car until they were finished, Sasha was driven to the Silver Shores beach.

She had never visited this beach at night, much less during the winter. It was still beautiful despite the blustery conditions down by the shoreline. She had her arms wrapped around her tiny body as she gazed out at the ocean, waiting for that adorable blonde boy to show his face. She really did wish he would hurry.

Nico hadn't driven, so it had taken him a bit longer to get there, though it was probably for the best in the long run. The exercise helped ebb away some of the tension in his shoulders, though it was still very much present, and gave him a bit of time to calm himself down before he met up with Sasha. Normally, this was the sort of time when he took out everything on his punching bag that his mother had installed, but he didn't want to have to see Toni, or Tino or Luc for that matter.

Nico hesitated a moment as the lifeguard stand and Sasha came into view, and he swallowed thickly as he took a moment to gather himself as best he could. He was pretty sure he hadn't succeeded in playing this off as just another routine walk, but he'd do his damndest.

"Hey," he greeted softly as he finally came up next to her. "This was kind of a dumb idea, huh? It's freezing." He forced out a weak laugh that sounded as awkward as it felt as he shoved his hands into his pockets.

Sasha smiled and turned at the sound of his voice. His cheeks looked pink from the cold, but otherwise, he was just as cute as she knew him to be. It was hard to forget about the cold, but having him here somehow made it easier to bear. "It is freezing," she replied. The cold made it look like puffs of smoke were coming out of her mouth as she spoke. She ignored this and worked to get her arms tighter around herself if that was even possible.

"Maybe we should walk?" she suggested. "I'll make us a little warmer, I think?" She casually glanced back to see if she could catch a glimpse of her sister's car out by the parking lot. Luckily, it was too dark for her to see. She hoped it worked the same the other way around. Slowly, she began taking a few steps closer to the water, though she had no intentions of getting near enough to get wet.

"You okay?" she finally asked softly.

"Yeah, let's walk. Sorry," he mumbled, feeling his cheeks heat up slightly with embarrassment. He should have thought this out better, but he hadn't. He had just wanted to get out of the house before he had to see that look on his brother's face again.

He eyed her, seeing how much she was clinging to herself. "C'mere. You're going to turn into a popsicle." His arm shifted around her shoulders, and it wasn't until after the fact that he realized exactly what he had done. He hesitated for a moment, eyes slightly wide, before willing himself to relax. No big deal. ...Right? He cast a sideways glance at her and kept walking at a slow pace.

"Guess you read it, too, huh?" he muttered, sighing softly. "I thought he'd start getting better, not worse. Now he's going off on everyone like this? I know he's... things are bad for him right now, really bad, but this is just-" He took in a breath as he felt himself tensing up. "I'm mad at him. I don't think I've ever really been mad at him before."

The wind around them wasn't strong, though occasionally a slight gust would creep up and cause her to shiver slightly. She was bundled up to the nines, though the cold always had a funny way of finding all the flaws in her clothes. And suddenly his arm was around her. There was also a moment's hesitation with her, until her body realized just how warm it was when she got closer to him. Trembling slightly, she leaned against him, though not too much that it would disrupt their walking. Ah, the things she did for love.

"I did," she said, glancing up at him out of the corner of her eye. Sasha wasn't always a very perceptive girl, but she could at least tell that Nico was hurting even before he had opened his mouth. Impulsively, she let go of herself and wrapped her arms around him. They were closer now. They were closer than they had ever been. It felt right though. "I'm sorry. Did you talk to him at all before you left?" She didn't pretend to know the inner workings of Toni Spinelli, but just as everyone had a breaking point, everyone had to have something that would put them back together again.

"No," he answered, frowning slightly as he looked up at the night sky. Why were the clear nights always the coldest? "I posted on his entry or whatever, but he didn't- I didn't even feel like it was registering."

He glanced over at her, leaning into him the way she was, and his lips tugged upward despite himself. She looked pretty, even with a pink nose and wind-blown hair. "I honestly think he was trying to piss someone off enough to start a fight with him tonight," he confided after a moment. "And that's..." He cleared his throat to cover up the hitch in his speech. "I'm not sure what to make of that."

Sasha nodded. "He was in a bad place in his mind when he wrote that," she presumed. She couldn't really know for sure. Sasha didn't have too much experience with something like this. Hell, she didn't have much experience in anything outside of Hello Kitty. That didn't mean she couldn't relate to what he was going through. The trick was knowing just how to make him feel better even when she knew that eventually he would have to go home and face his brother again.

"What about your other brothers? What did they say about it?" Sasha didn't know about Nico, but when it came to her and Mari, she always relied on what her sister said. Her hand was touching something familiar now, and she realized that she was holding onto her other hand, which had somehow found its way around him to the other side. Even through her gloves, she could feel the rubber band bracelet she had made at camp so many years ago with her name on it.

"Hey," she said, reluctantly peeling herself off him. "Here, take this." With a yank, she pulled off her bracelet and handed it to him. "It reminds me of camp and how happy I was that summer. Maybe it'll make you happy too."

Nico rolled his eyes as she asked about his brothers. "Tino doesn't know what to do, and I don't know where Luc is. He's the one who always takes care of this kind of stuff. He's the responsible one." Nico had been excited when Luc had returned to the island, but he hadn't exactly fixed things the way Nico had been expecting. He was beginning to realize how naive an idea it was.

He bit back a protest as she pulled away and was luckily quickly distracted from the cold by the bracelet she offered. "You're giving me this? Are you sure?" He asked, carefully taking it from her. Wasn't that the kind of thing girlfriends gave to their boyfriends? He didn't exactly mind it having that connotation, except that it wasn't, you know, true.

"You might have to help me get it on," he admitted with a soft chuckle. "I'm pretty good at breaking things, so."

Sasha frowned when he explained about his brothers. Even when Mari wasn't there or didn't know what to do, she always tried to help. Or at least this was true as far back as Sasha could remember. "Maybe he isn't sure of what to do either?" It truly was a curious case that needed to be handled with care. She didn't want to ask what his parents thought about all this. She figured it might have been crossing some sort of line.

With a nod, she took his hand and carefully slid the rubber band onto his wrist. Once on, she had to pause a moment to admire it on him. It wasn't even a girly color either, since they only one they had left when she went to make hers was blue anyhow. "It looks nice." Of course, by this point, the wind had chilled her to the bone again. She was shivering from head to toe and quickly slipped back into his arms. "Gosh it's so cold."

"Probably. I guess we're all pretty useless right now." This wasn't exactly the sort of thing you came pre-programmed to deal with. People breaking your X-box, sure, but your brother's best friend committing suicide? No. Nico didn't even know where to begin.

The hand made bracelet looked foreign on his wrist, but he'd be lying if he said it didn't have the desired effect. It didn't have much to do with camp, but it did come from her, and the fact that she had given it to him was enough to drag out a smile.

"I should take you back." He didn't want to take her back, but he didn't want her getting sick either. "I'd invite you over for a while, but, well, you probably don't want to be there right now." And he was pretty sure her mom would have a heart attack if she went over to a boy's house right now. He turned their path back toward the way they came, but kept her close to him.

Sasha didn't want to go either. She had long since forgotten about her mother's many warnings to be careful out alone on the beach at night like that. She had forgotten her sister still waiting for her in the car and probably turned into a snowman by now. She forgot about the time and that she had to get up early the next day for school. All she could think of was the time she was spending with Nico just the two of them. "I'm sure it'll get better, Nico." At least she had to believe things would get better. They wouldn't always be this bad, would they?

For some reason, the walk back felt shorter than the walk over. They hadn't walked far. It had just seemed to take longer on the way over. Maybe they were just cold and wanted to get there faster. Maybe she just wanted to stay with him forever despite the cold, yet time had a funny way of taking moments like these away. "It's okay, but if you want, you can call me when you get home. We can talk about whatever, and you don't have to worry about your brothers for a little bit." She held onto him, knowing the time to let go was approaching.

Nico reluctantly came to a halt in front of the lifeguard stand where they had originally met. She wasn't letting go, though, so he didn't either. "Yeah? Alright. I might just do that." Pft. He was totally going to. Of course, he'd have to play it cool for a while, you know, not look over-zealous or anything. And it would likely be a text, not a call, less intimate. Not to mention the fact that he got more time to think about what he wanted to say.

...Not that, you know, it was a big deal or anything.

"Go home and warm up, okay?" he said with a smile, shifting so he could stand in front of her instead of to the side of her. He ran his hands up and down her arms quickly in an attempt to warm her up a bit himself. "Thanks for letting me drag you all the way out here." Late. When it was freezing outside.

The thought of Nico calling her was going to have her looking at her phone every three seconds starting from the moment he left her sight. She could already imagine their conversation in her head as she snuggled up warm in her bed and just bit her lip at the sound of his voice. "Okay," she said, grinning at him. His hair would flop from one side to the other every time the wind blew. It was the cutest thing she had ever seen. Long thin strands of golden blonde hair sweeping away at his forehead like a silky broom that Midas had touched.

"Yeah. Be careful on your walk home. Or do you want us to drive you back?" She wasn't sure if boys thought it more macho to walk in the cold. Or maybe the walk would give him more time alone to think. "Anytime. Thank you for asking me." The idea that anyone else could have been out here with him now made this all the more special. "I uhm... I hope you feel better." She leaned forward to give him a goodbye kiss on the cheek.

"Nah, I don't live far. I'll walk," he replied. "Thanks, though." Nico's eyes widened as her lips pressed against his cheek. He hadn't been expecting that, and his cheek tingled after she pulled away. He had to give a little cough to regain his composure, but he was still grinning like an idiot at her.

"Feeling better already," he told her as he finally released her from his embrace. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

Sasha nodded and didn't want to push him to letting her sister take him home. She let the issue drop and took a few steps back away from him. Even though their talk wasn't all that happy, even though the night was freezing, even though they barely had time for any of this, the night had been wonderful in Sasha's opinion.

"I'll see you tomorrow." With a grin, she turned and headed back up the dunes toward the parking lot. Before she could get too far though, she shouted over her shoulder, "Take care of my bracelet!" And waved before disappearing into the darkness.
