Who: Penny and Bast
What: Post Apocalyptic Songbird Meeting
When: Friday afterschool
Where: High School "by the flag pole"
Rating: TBD
Mrs. Tibbits had given her Junior English class some time after their lesson to do some quiet reading. It was the end of the day on the last day before Spring Break and instead of jumping from the rooftops and dancing on tables, the Junior class was stuck doing silent reading. Of course, no one was actually reading, except maybe Annie, as everyone was generally anxiously awaiting the final bell to ring that would dismiss them from school for at least a week. Penny slid down lower in her chair. She was one of those people who wasn't reading at all, and who could blame her? There was no way she could concentrate today.
Glancing at the clock, Penny adjusted her iPod headphone in her ear. The song that was playing in the background as she pretended to read over words that meant little to her in the moment was Firework. She figured the time would go faster if she listened to music and tried not to think about meeting Bast in the afternoon. And... what she had done. She wasn't sure what had possessed her to blast herself through Songbird, and she was feeling pretty crummy about it. She had just about convinced herself that Bast was going to tell her to move on from him, and she would have understood him completely.
She was so immersed in her thoughts that the bell rang, and she wasn't sure what was happening. She saw kids getting up quickly and rushing out of the classroom and only realized it was officially the first minute of spring break when she heard cheers coming from the hallways. With a sigh, she picked up her things and walked out, waving to Mrs. Tibbits on her way to the door. The hallways were crowded with students shouting and all excited about the break. Penny didn't even make a stop at her locker. She had everything she needed in her bag. Instead, she steadied herself before getting this thing over with.
And as she made her way toward the flag pole, hand slowly pulling her headphone out of her ear, she prayed that he wouldn't say the words "break up with you" to her. Because she was going to kill someone if she ever heard those words again.
