Ethan hadn’t been lying when he said he was nervous, he always was before any show. The reason for that was simple: every show was personal. Every piece he put up for view meant something to him, somewhere deep inside, even if he didn’t know what it meant at the time or after he was finished.
He’d created 15 pieces in total: 3 of which were all in chalk and charcoal, bringing sharp rather striking strokes to the page - 3 in brightly coloured paint - 3 were all done in pencil, using varying lights and dark to create depth - another 3 were done using dimension and depth, using paper and clay - and his last 3 were all metal and structure.
Looking at them on the walls and beneath light was enough to turn Ethan’s stomach over on itself, causing him to chew on the edge of his previously manicured thumbnail.
This was happening, it was really happening.
Oh God, what had he been thinking?
A hand shoved through the dark strands of his hair and his steps had him moving from piece to piece, critically analysing them as he did with everything he did. He couldn’t help it, it was what his mother did so he did it too.
What if this night bombed? What if nobody came to see his pieces? Okay, now he was just over thinking. Breathe, Ethan, breathe. Never mind the fact he was unconsciously causing the metallic paintings to tremble each and every time he walked past them, not that he had noticed.
Ethan cast his gaze towards the door as they officially opened for the night.
