Lulu was expecting the worst. How could she not? "The worst" had a tendency of happening the minute that bastard Bacchus got involved in Kenzie's life, and that was all too often. Glancing up at the clock, Lulu sighed and paced around the kitchen one more time, glancing at the bottle of scotch that sat on the table and willing herself for the tenth time that evening that she wasn't allowed to pour any until Kenzie walked through the door. Scotch had never really been her thing (it was too... pretentious; Lulu had always been a cocktail kind of girl), but she was positive that her wife would need some after the day she'd had. Last night's leftovers were warming in the oven, too - it was almost enough to make Lulu feel like a bona fide housewife. Ha.
Unlike her wife, Lulu was not really the worrying type, except when it came to situations like this one. She wasn't exactly nervous per se, but the prospect of Kenzie coming home unhappy definitely got under her skin. Honestly, it was all she could do to suppress the urge to march down to city hall and nail the bastard in the balls while wearing stilettos, but somehow she thought that a reaction like that, while noble and totally deserved on Bacchus' part, would not necessarily help the situation. Lulu was just looking up at the clock again when the sound of the tires crunching on gravel made her heave a little sigh. Finally.
Lulu took Kenzie's plate from the oven and set it at the table, then hurried her steps to the front door, Lulu opened it and greeted Kenzie with a coy, but sympathetic smile. "There's my little accountant that could," she crooned, pulling her wife into a hug as soon as she was safe in the warmth. "Good to see that you've survived yet another day of Arthur Jackass's reign of terror."
