Who: Teddy & Remus Lupin
What: Dealing with some tension.
Where: Their home.
When: Late Saturday
Things were still tense at the Lupin house, Teddy had taken to avoiding both of his parents when he could. This mostly consisted of either spending his time with friends outside of the house or visiting those in the hospital. During times he absolutely had to be in the house, he stayed up in his room playing loud CDs and ignoring whatever he could. He was particularly insubordinate, and half the time he barely understood why he was acting out the way he did. Underneath it all, he was just hurt and little scared, and the whole village was tense these days. When Remus spoke about leaving, when he had previously spoken of staying away, it hurt. It was a betrayal, almost. Teddy wanted Remus around constantly, it wouldn’t make up for the lack of time that they had in the real world, but it almost felt like if he tried hard enough it would be. And while, in the back of his mind, he knew Remus’ lack of desire to stay was based off of nothing Teddy had done, but out of safety and his own fear, he couldn’t help but feel a little unwanted.
What had kept him in the house a large part of Saturday was baby Hope. It was odd yes, that a sixteen year old was more than willing to handle a baby, but Teddy had always sort of been that way. He was ten, almost eleven, when Ginny had given birth to Lilu, and he’d been old enough then to help out on occassions with the girl he considered his sister. More so, anyway, than he had with the two boys. It was all part of Teddy’s slight obsession with family, and what little he had of it. Of course, just because he was helping his father out with Hope didn’t mean he wouldn’t quickly leave when Remus or Tonks entered to take the baby from him, or avoid conversing with them for the most part.
It was late when Teddy heard the baby cry out, so late that he had to assume that his parents were sleeping since he himself was already tucked into bed. Slowly, he shifted and rolled out of bed, moving to the room they were temporarily keeping Hope. He picked the small baby up gently, rocking her in his arms as she quieted. He couldn’t tell exactly what she wanted, she was hungry maybe? Teddy watched her as he rocked, trying to figure out what he should try first.
He heard the footsteps before he saw them, and they were a bit too steady to be his mums (she was a lot like him in that she didn’t have a steady foot rhythm and every few steps were punctuated by a bang or other similar noise of hitting or knocking something over). He looked up in time to see Remus walk in before, eyeing him a bit before looking back down at the baby.
