Ginny Weasley had reached her limit. It wasn't enough that she'd lost one of her best mates. It wasn't enough that her son had been killed. It wasn't enough that another one of her best mates had been thrown into this mess without any sort of warning or that Harry had either been killed or taken back, no one seemed to know for sure. No. The village...whatever it was that was controlling it now, was sending rain. Rain by the bucketful and the one safe place they had suddenly wasn't safe. The flood was coming and anyone who could see the river knew it. It was rising quickly and there didn't seem to be any end to this rain in sight. The sick and the injured would have to be moved and Ginny just---She wasn't convinced that any of this would ever end.
The people who were moving the wounded needed cover. There were still enough monsters roaming around that it was dangerous to be outside and even more dangerous to be weighted down trying to help someone. Fueled by a rage that only mad injustice could spark, she was ready to protect the people who needed to get moved to Moody's house. Forgoing her wand for her sword which seemed to be at least slightly more effective than most spells, she stalked around outside waiting for trouble to find her.
It didn't take very long.
The rustle came from the nearby bushes and she knew it before she saw it. The smell of rotting and decay burned her nose and she grimaced as she planted her feet in the mud and waited for it to show its ugly face. She was vaguely aware of others nearby ready to help, which was just as well because apparently this beast had brought along friends.
Her approach to fighting was different today. Yesterday had been about finding weaknesses and doing everything in her power to stay in one piece while helping anyone else around her who looked like they needed it. Today...Today was about vengeance. Today was about Jamie and Godric and Dennis and all of the people inside who were hurt and sick and didn't know what was real anymore. Today, she just didn't care anymore.
At first, it seemed to be effective. She had more power in her swing and a sort of fearlessness that, while dangerous, made her a fierce opponent for the equally fearless monsters. She managed to push the creature back, towards the edge of the forest, away from the community center. Her jaw was locked and her brow was furrowed as she continued to beat back the monster.
It happened quickly. One moment she was sure she was going to issue the final blow and the next she was gasping for air, the wind knocked out of her as she was thrown to the muddy ground, stars erupted in her vision. She tried to get up, but slipped again, the ankle she'd hurt yesterday rolling over again and a loud painful cracking could be heard over the rain. She screamed out in anguish as the pain tore through her. The beast struck downwards, and without really thinking about it, she reached for her sword, shoving it upwards through the monster's neck, but feeling a searing pain through her arm. Blood was seeping through her already drenched shirtsleeve and when she tried to push herself up again, pain radiated from the gash. She pulled her sword from the monster's now unmoving corpse and tried to use it to help her stand. Her ankle screamed and she only made it a couple of steps before she fell again, her head hitting a rock as she made contact with the ground.
