The past four days had been, in all likelihood, the worst four days of Victoire's life. She'd stayed in bed nearly the entire time, only coming out for an hour or two for dinner. Despite sitting at the table, she hadn't eaten much, not having any sort of appetite. Anytime she was alone with her thoughts for too long, she had to fight from bursting into tears, which only made her feel worse. She was, in short, depressed, which wasn't doing her or the baby any good. The baby hadn't been moving much, adding worry to an already stressful situation, and her blood pressure had been consistently sky-high - not the worst thing in the world, but still dangerous at this late stage. She couldn't tell if the contractions she felt on and off were from stress or the real things, and since she didn't want to worry her parents more than she already had, she kept it all mostly to herself. Without Teddy (who hadn't just been her husband, but her best friend as well) there to talk to, she was a wreck and absolutely miserable.
But an invitation for tea from Godric Gryffindor himself was one of the very few things that could get Victoire excited enough to at least temporarily snap out of it. She bathed, dressed in the best maternity wear she had, and even did her hair for the first time in weeks. To be honest, she still wasn't entirely sure this was some kind of massive prank, but if this was a prank, then the entire village was a prank, and she was sure no one was cruel enough to do this sort of thing to her.
While her parents were at work, she sat on the sofa and wrote out a list of things they still needed for the baby. She was due in less than a week now, and while everything else in her life seemed to be spinning completely out of control, she was desperate for something she could manage. Making lists while she waited helped, even if it wasn't very exciting.
