With everything that had been going on lately - the sudden sense of clarity, the all-too impending birth of her son, and the realization that her feelings for Narcissus had changed - Echo had been quietly freaking out. She was trying not to make a big deal out of things or get herself too worked up, since she knew that was bad for the baby, but in the back of her head she was pitching a fit. She was pretty much convinced that something had happened while she was away visiting Gaia, and now she just needed to find out what it was before she went crazy.
The thing that was bothering her was that somehow between when she had left Astoria and returned, she could remember thinking that her love for Narcissus would be enough to make a marriage between them work, but now she was thinking that maybe she didn't love Narcissus enough to take that chance. It seemed ridiculous to question a change in feelings, but when those feelings had been a major factor in your life for as long as you could remember then they suddenly stopped being so intense that meant something weird had happened. The funny thing was, Echo couldn't recall experiencing anything that would cause such a dramatic change, so she was at a loss.
She had been hanging out at the house, doing her level best to work through the situation, when she decided she had to get out. Hopping on a bus, she headed to Coney Island, knowing that there she'd be able to think while listening to the waves. Finding an abandoned swing at the playground, she ambled over, picking up a stick and writing a message in the sand before sitting on the swing. Pushing off with her feet, Echo pondered the questions before her as she gently swayed to and fro.
What causes love to fade overnight, and what brings it back?
