WHO: Nephthys & Andrés Mareo Saldana
WHEN: Friday afternoon
WHERE: The apartment building they both live in
WHAT: Just one neighbor helping out another
For Nephthys, her life in New York was settling into something quite comfortable now that she and Set had managed to come to some sort of arrangement in their relationship. It wasn't perfect - that was an impossibility - but it was better than it had been for a long time. She was his wife, but to be around him for too long encouraged her into a callousness she didn't like to see within herself. So with that knowledge she understood she needed to draw away from him - something she had explained - but for now she wasn't running. They lived in separate apartments but she would still spent many nights in a row in his bed before returning to her own to collect herself. It soothed her soul to have the rest of her family around. She could turn to Isis and feel once more at peace, as there was never anything there but the simple knowledge that they were a perfect fit. Set and Nephthys were far more complicated than that.
But today she was alone, having just come from her work at the funeral home by way of the store, the grocery bag in her arms stuffed full and heavy as she made her way up the stairs. Finally it seemed the weather was warming up and her dark brown dress reflected this. (She never felt the cold so badly as some of the others. She was the Goddess of Night, and nighttime in the deserts could be shocking.)
Nephthys had nearly arrived on her landing when the bag she held gave way, splitting and sending everything within spilling across the landing and the stairs, oranges trying to disappear back in the direction she'd come from. Nephthys cursed under her breath and then knelt to try and collect it all.
