"When I was in high school I was a foreign exchange student," he said happily. "I went to Brazil and South Africa to name a few. I guess getting to see the world outside of Japan and Puerto Rico started it. Seeing all those places." There was clear happiness in his eyes as he continued to speak.
He then looked down at the kitchen counter as he took a seat, the slight disheartning of a boy that wanted to belong somewhere. "I guess studying the past was like giving me a place to fit in. In times where things were simpler, when there was more beauty and things of worth." His parents divorce when he was young had caused the boy to look for interests to keep his mind focused off the grief. Neither parent had much to do with him since he'd graduated high school and gone off to college.
